- Bert replaces the battery of the original Dualshock 4 controller. A 3rd party battery was purchased in this DIY for $9 off eBay (link below). Magnetized Tri-Wing screwdriver is suggested for this DIY.

Works great. All I have to say is watch out for the small springs in the L2 and R2 buttons. They are not critical but do provide a bit of spring back. Might want to make sure they go back in.
Ugh, those are probably what fell out of my remote when I opened it. I have no idea where they go.
sony really seems to want you to replace your controller.
That’s what apple does with their iPhones,its actually really easy(for me)to replace a PS4 controller battery
They want to do unreasonable lucrative things to make money 💰
Yea the moment I got my switch pro gamepad and I noticed it literally lasted days longer than my ps4 gamepad, I started looking for mods.... the switch pro gamepad is soooo much better

My Dualshock 4 battery bought on the PS4 Pro release date, have been working excellent & strong ever since the release date. Not until recently i noticed battery only lasting a day or so. Extremely happy with the strong performance through the years. Also want to point out i am using the 3.5 inch plug to run a couple of AKG MK2 240 studio phones through the DualShock 4, as idont have a stereo system. So battery is being pushed pretty much to the max! 👍

I understand, had my PS4 slim since 2017, same two original controllers it came with. Now I just need a battery to replace, everything else is fine. 👍🏽
This battery does not support even half the charging capacity of the original. After giving a full charge in the morning, if you play at night, it will start with only 2 bars. The original, if I fully charge it, and play it several days from now, it will have a full battery. This one, too, does not support the energy. It lasts a maximum of 1h and 40. In fact, I never had a problem with the original battery, I just bought another one to try to replace the one of a non-original DS4 that I got as a gift.
Yeah i bought this battery too and exactly the same is happening to me, two hours and then battery dies
Removed the battery of my old PS4 controller just now, removing the casing proved rather difficult either due to the controller being old or i'm just not yanking hard enough first time i've done this.
I noticed the ribbon cable's are crumpled up and i dont have plastic clipper so it took a little while to remove the battery.

My original PS for a controller battery died. I purchased an aftermarket for around $35 on Amazon which later someone dropped and broke one of the buttons. I decided to swap batteries. Had to cut connection from battery which was different from aftermarket. Swapping battery operation was successful. Thanks for your tip on how to properly pry the controller cover.
I just did this today one was drifting badly and one was new but my daughter cried the battery charging it from both ends at the same time so I had to splice the battery because the connection was to large and it actually works but it says it's always charging when it's not but it still works
It's weird, the ps4 controller I had for 5 years still holds at least a 6-hour charge but the controller that came with my pro died within a year. Bad batch I guess.

Well actually I bought it in November when it came out 😂But I literally only used it for like 3 weeks and then one day the battery just gave out and wouldn’t charge or turn on. I finally got the tools and I found it in my closet so I decided to finally fix it

yeah, same, although, Ive had the pro since it was launched pretty much and haven't used the base console as much since but Im still kinda surprised how hard this battery is failing now. I have to make sure I plug it in everyday now, where as with the other ones (original dualshock 4 and 3) I could literally just forget about plugging them in for days, or weeks depending on how much Im using them.

@@SeasonedGaming Again,thanks for the video,it was very helpful to know not to pry the front cover off because of the charging port cable.I installed the battery,charged it for about two or three hours and it’s working better than expected,I switched my headset to one that doesn’t need charging so it’s only hooked up to the controller and uses that same power to work so swapping to a better battery was necessary for that too. I’m currently looking for some grips for the controller because i have sweaty hands when I’m playing for hours,do you have any recommendations?

Totally would have worked but was going to swap out a battery with another controller but wrong model so brought new battery of ebay 😂 now have to wait to see if battery or charge port

Geez, I really wish you'd have slowed WAY DOWN on showing how to putting the trigger button back in because I'm sweatin' like crazy, I've already dropped the spring 3 times and I've had I don't know how many cursing fits.

Question is how long should a 2,000 mAh battery be charged?
It obviously can vary but typically about an hour.
2 little springs fell out when I opened the remote. Any idea where they go?
In an update, the battery has held charge very well. I am however not seeing a longer charged compared to when new.

What size screwdriver did you use? The description says magnetized tri-wing, but doesn't mention a size. I have a small jeweler set and the two Phillips-head screwdrivers in the set are too big to seat in the screws. They might be a little stuck, but I don't want to risk it and strip 'em.
I have this magnetized small screwdriver from this toy set I can’t remember that’s been the perfect size for most things i need a Phillips for besides like construction or something. Took the screws out of my controller lickety-split.
Second time I had to do this. (I bought a fake/bad battery before). Now the light on the controller isnt working. Would this be because I unplugged/replugged the other cable?

When i plug it in the yellow light comes out but it not charges the controller i can still play with it but when i unplug it controller stops working Is ıt because of my usb port or my battery?
I have the same problem as you only mine stops working randomly even when plugged in. My problem was charging the controller with a 30V charger when the recommended voltage is 5V. So I completely fried my battery. My battery died after only 6 months of usage so I’ll look into replacement battery rather than buying a new controller.

@@patok98 yeah i did a few days ago and I also changed the usb port, it works fine while it is connected with my new usb cable but it doesn’t connect wirelessly with Bluetooth. My guess is that I also fried the motherboard so the Bluetooth feature doesn’t work anymore. I just bought a new controller. But remember DO NOT CHARGE THE CONTROLLER WITH A USB CABLE THAT HAS A VOLTAGE HIGHER THAN 5V.

Man pulling the controller apart like you did is wrong, you should point out that there are clips next to the triggers, and once apart don't pull too far apart otherwise the lead can get pulled out of its socket in the motherboard, both can damage beyond repair

How did you get the new battery
I accidentally took everything from the battery, you know how it has to separate tiny boxes and instead of getting the white one I got both what can I do?

on a full charge I go about an hour and it loses a bar and I think a full charge will last for 4 hours maybe I usually buy a new controller but I don't want to spend that much money. it would be nice if you could turn off the light bar I don't care for it it's cool but not needed I hope the ps5 light bar can be turned off

that is correct. it can work via USB but the weight of the controller feels too light IMO

That would be interesting. As avid gamers we appreciate the ease of not having to replace batteries with an internal battery. The struggle is when the battery is really small and needs to be replaced in a short period of time. We prefer external batteries.

We can't suggest this one for long term. We ended up using a bigger and better battery and prefer it much better.

As someone who hates the environment, I'm glad that Sony wants to add waste to our landfills by not allowing me to change the battery in my controller.

You do not want to use your controller while it is charging! That is very bad for battery life!

That is where Xbox is better. You have many options and never have to open controller up. Xbox controller can use a rechargeable pack, AA batteries, or rechargeable. Think the Xbox controller is better.
