I listened to all the downsides and actually felt encouraged to get a clip on. All the negatives either don't apply or I'm willing to accept. I'm not getting thermals for predator hunting (albeit it will be used for it), and I'm only planning to use it for a single rifle, which I'll primarily need to use the day optic (1-6). The StingIR looks great, once I make the plunge.
Same here exactly
Same here, I’m getting mine for self defense when shtf
Pros of a clip-on: Not dealing with the short eye relief that comes with most dedicated thermal weapon sights. A clip on projects an image through your LPVO in a way that allows for an amazingly large image that takes up the entire ocular lens of your scope at anything 2x and beyond.
Also as far as saving zero profiles: it’s not difficult to write down your X & Y screen adjustments for each rifle. It takes all of 10 seconds to change the collimation settings in the menu. Not being able to save your zero profile is a null issue.
the biggest issue with clip-ons is performance. A scope is generally has more range, longer battery life, greater resolution, and a higher refresh rate. Also the eye relief on thermal scopes is the same or better than LPVOs.
I have too many cool rifles with great scopes to be dependent on 1 to swap around.
Hey so here's an idea then. You guys said you would have to columate the thermal to each rifle each time. Why don't you just allow for a number of different collumated presets that allow for a label or numerical association. This shouldn't be very difficult to do as it is simply a software change. You guys would probably also be the pioneers in this concept. Just an idea. Great products.
If a dedicated thermal can have 25 different scope preset zeros for different rifles then there's no reason a clip on cannot have 5 collimation presets to easily switch to a few different setups.
@@thegraewolf What's the benefit to clipping on a less powerful device when you can just remove your optic entirely with QD mounts, put on a thermal or NV with QD mounts, select the preset, and start shooting? Repeatable zero isn't a problem with modern high quality optics so I personally see no benefit getting a clip on.
@@LongFatJohnston several that I can think of without having the benefit of trying out either setup beforehand. I have 4 or 5 rifles I'd like to able to use, and 3 of those rifles I would prefer not to change my current scope mounts. Although, if I did, something quality like a Spuhr qd mount is what I what upgrade to and those are about 500 each, so 1500 would have to be added in to the upfront cost. Then there are a couple other red dots and an lpvo that I could use it on. I'm not completely ignoring the advice of many experienced thermal users. I haven't ruled out getting a dedicated. But that would mean changing setups on several rifles I'm currently very happy with as well as significant added expense. Additionally, I'm ok with it being good/adequate on numerous rifles than optimal dedicated on 1 or 2. I think, fwiw, I've narrowed it down to 2 I'd consider. The incendis pro or a bering optics super yoter C.
Some clip ones do have presets for multiple rifles.
@@LongFatJohnstonmost of my hunting rifles have non QD mounts and I don't want to switch to QD. That's my reason. QD mounts are heavier and while very reliable, I'm not risking it on a 7 day backpack hunt where I am likely to take a 400-600 yard shot.
Love it, been looking for my first budget setup and y'all are the only company I can find with a good budget product
Absolutely LOVE the adder. Stepped up from the rattler and even that scope blew my mind.
Hey guys, really liking this new format. Keep posting good stuff!
I've always liked more the thermal, thanks for reinforcing my opinion, now I'm more convinced than ever that it was the right choice.
This looks like a great set up, thanks for giving a lucky individual an opportunity to win one of these
Great information, thanks for covering the pros and cons.
This video plus the advice of coyote hunters helped out immensely.
I'd have to try a clip on out for myself before deciding if it can really compete with a normal thermal scope, but you guys have me more interested than I was previously for sure.
Glad to have watched this video and see some more research into clip ons and scopes
Appreciate the input. I tend to lean in the clip on camp only because I need versatile kit vs niche. May not be as effective, but that’s a trade off I’m willing to eat if I can migrate to guns with different purposes and priority of day fighting
Great information! Glad I saw this before purchasing a clip on
Thanks for hosting this! I’d love to have either!
All around great products! Never had any issues with my Varmint. Looking at getting my son something soon!
this was a good perspective for someone getting ready to drop some coin to help make the best decision for them
Love AGM. Great products.
Loved this comparison! Thanks
thanks for the great information, good job on the video
Clarity here is great for someone being in the market for a thermal
Thanks for the advice and knowledge!
A lot of great information!
This is going to be awesome
This was very helpful. Thanks.
Love it guys!
AGM are great products at great prices.Excellent App. and firmware updates are great too.
Thanks guys for an awesome take on this subject. I’m struggling which direction to go with that whole idea. I like the idea of having a clip on for scanning then using it with an lpvo, but having a dedicated optics the clarity of nice also
I am in Texas. I have the Rattler 25. Because of the lower magnification. Ideal for hog hunting. It is the 385 or whatever. I also have your lower end monocular. 150 reso 156 maybe. I have your white phos pvs14. The handheld can be a great supplement to the pvs14 even a budget friendly one. I would like to try a clip on. I have one AR with 1-4x. If I throw a clip on in. I could have a do all. I just use the Streamlight HIR pistol light on the rail at 12:00. To shot under nightvision, they work great for me. I am going to look into that smaller clip on. Thanks for the video.
Awesome comparison 💪
Excellent information here guys
Thanksn, it was intersting and informative.
All good points and good advice. I'd get a scope over a clip-on and just dedicate a particular weapon or upper to use with it.
Great information! Thank you
Thanks for the timely review
Great presentation of the different options
Great information!!
It was really very interesting and informative
Both seem amazing
Great information. I was one of the misconceptions.
I have two clip ons with one of those being thermal and one is NV. I use both between between 3 different weapons so I don’t use the collimating feature of the thermal. I have to adjust zero for whatever combo I’m using. I just have an index card taped to my stocks with three different zeros for each weapon. That means you have to use a scope that is repeatable. Even your above average hunting scopes will not be effective in that area. This means more money for better quality optics. Other than being able to use different platforms the clip on shines on target in my opinion. I have two dedicated thermal scopes and know other people with dedicated scopes and most of the time you will not be able to sight in a dedicated thermal with the same precision that you can with a clip on because with the clip on you’re adjusting you’re day optic (with my method) and the dedicated thermal scopes the cross hair adjust usually one pixel at a time which can mean at say a normal 200 yard hunting zero it’s near impossible to get your weapon to hit dead on. The biggest downside to a clip on for me is the weight on the front of your weapon because most clip on are not Sting IR size. I would love to compare it to my rattler.
I have a dedicated scope. It's one of the mid-range rattlers, I've seen what buying a high-end clip-on but the one thing I can absolutely agree with even without trying one is the magnification issues. If the cost is the same then it's pointless to buy a clip on.
Sounds like AGM just needs to make a better Clip-On.
Definitely came into this video thinking that I wanted a clip-on thermal, but left thinking about wanting a scope and dedicated rifle more.
You don't even need a dedicated rifle because of repeatable zero; it's easier than ever with digital optics and modern rails.
Sweet, good info!
Love the scopes
Very good points thanks for doing this
Thanks for the info!
really lovin it
Awesome thermal!
Oh and also to add why people use QD levers is generally not to swap optics between different rifles but to allow for usage of another optic while not having to rezero when I replace my main optic. For instance I don't hunt and shoot with my thermal all of the time. As a matter of fact that's not the purpose for the build but because I have a quality qd mount in able to remove my regular dot and swap out for my thermal which happens to also be zeroed and retains zero when reattached. It's a very convenient and cost effective way to have a main building that also can be turned into a thermal capable hunting machine only for the cost of a slightly more expensive mount, rather than a full rifle build.
Great topic, don't necessarily agree with your thoughts but thats ok, I started with a clip on, went to a dedicated unit and returned to yet again a clip on. The reason I prefer the clip on is if the unit packs it in or you get caught out with flat batteries remove the unit clip on your Olight and keep hunting, your outing is not fully wrecked, doesent happen you might say or carry spare batteries, well in 4 years I had 2 major failures with the dedicated unit which was sent off for warranty leaving me weeks without a scope, by the same token I had the propriety battery pack it in on my clip on, again leaving me without a usable unit. Having used thermal for the last 6 years as a professional feral controller in my experience the clip on is more versatile and safer in a breakdown, oh and both scope and clip on's were top end units, they stuff up also not just the budget or mid range ones.
Great video
Great information
Nice - finally some honesty on clip-ons. We refuse to sell them for every reason you listed. Customers are always dissapointed and regret the purchase. Id rather see a customer buy the cheapest thermal scope possible and with the clip-on change left over buy another gun to mount it on.
Great info id love to have a thermal scope
Thanks for the video. I think in going clip-on. I had a 384 quick mount thermal break. I'm going with the clip because I use an old ATN clip on and have had great success with it. Theremal is where it's at though. I like the clip on NV because I can use on on my pellet rifles, .22s, and hog rifles. I think using my favorite rifles and havinf flexibility is better. I just want to be sure though. Every time it is switched t9 a different rifle I will need to align the redicle correct?
geat conversation, good luck with the giveaway
The thermal scope would be great for an entry device!
Awesome!!
Great info
Nice comparisons
Good info!
Be a great tool to add to my hunting arsenal
Amazinggggg
I’m interested in NV clip ons so I can use the same rifle for day and night hunting. I have an AGM thermal, but I’d like a NV tube and clipon too to have options
Awesome!
I was thinking of adding a clip on to my crossbow but it has a short pic rail. Do you have to mount it or will it work just as clip on?
I have had poor experience with thermal scopes not holding zero, you know zero it today they take it out in a few daays and it’s hitting 6” low, can’t understand or trust the electronic scopes. That’s why I was looking for a clip on as a normal scope will hold its zero.
I need this for when the Boogaloo happens
Does a thermal device exist that is a helmet option, lpvo/red dot clip-on?
For the people!
very nice video
Tanodized LMT is God tier rifle
Cool thanks
thermal is the way to go
Very nice
What handguard is on that LMT and what’s the barrel length?
I really like my TC-35 i had it paired with a vortex viper II 1-6 for a long time but switched over to the primary arms glx 2.5-10 im curious as to if the image quality is the same or better with the 640 stinger compared to the 640 tc-35 looking for a helmet mounted unit to run with my NV
I have a Vortex strike eagle 1x6 and wondering if I'd like a clip on. I don't want to dedicate a rifle to night hunting. Have thought about the Pulsar Digex C50, daytime color and NV plus the twilight mode. Can you tell me how well you liked the clip on and the viper?
@terrycrissman7392 well the image will be better on a dedicated optic rather than a clip on I like the clip on because I can save the zeros and switch between a few different rifles plus I can just pop it off and run it without and not loose zero but the negative is a lvpo is were a a clip on really shines anything above 6x and the image gets really grainy and pixilated to my range is under 400yards to get any further would require alot more cash and a 50m clip on 640 or higher
I run thermal scope now looking to get a back up nv scope
Looking at the clip-on option to carry in my hunting backpack. I'm color-blind and would like the option to shoot 1 hour before and 1 hour after daylight. I used a nAGM Rattler TS19-256 last season as a dedicated rig and didn't like it. The pic was not great, there was no depth perception, looking at the screen for prolonged periods made my eyes sore and gave me a headache. Given my use case 100-200 yards max and only needing it for a couple hours a day, would I be better served to get a clip-on or a dedicated upper/rifle? The main thing is I didn't like looking through the digital screen and the eye fatigue it caused. Also, carrying a separate gun with a dedicated thermal would be impractical for weight and pack-space reasons. My hunting rig runs a dedicated 3-12x56mm Swaro optic.
anyone can tell me if thermal scopes track as precisely as daytime scopes?
🤘🔥
What clip on are using on your lpvo scope?
awesome
Both? Both? Both is good 😂
Thx ...i want one ..omg
I am in Texas and have varmint issues. Coyote Cat Pig. Dedicated gun what is a reasonable priced night capable model for 100-200 yards?
sweet!
They kind of danced around the "tactical" considerations. If it goes to sh!t and you're limited to one rifle (keep it simple, keep it light) then you'll want to have a quick option to switch between daylight and night optic capability. In my mind, and as mentioned a few times here, there are two routes to achieve the switch, and both involve good, reliable return to zero quick detach (QD) mounts. Option 1) Have a 1×-?× lpvo and thermal each mounted to QDs and exchange as needed. Option 2) Have a 1x-?× lpvo either QD or hard mounted and then use a thermal "clip on" (such as the Stinger) QD mounted to add for night ops. Due to weight and simplicity considerations, I think I'd go with option 2.
After this most recent update for the ts35-384 rattler I can't get my hotspot to turn on it just says network close and won't let me change it
Hello! Please restore your device. Go Menu->Restore.
Need a clip on..
So.. shouldni skip my ACOG purchase for my 300 blackout and just get a thermal? $ is not the issue.. that said, i dont want to buy and cry about it. Thermal scope have deop compensator like rhat ACOG I want? What thermal should i use for clip on for ACOG if I go the clip-on route.. remember that ACOG RCO is a 4x.
Help..
Have atn thor 4… have profiles set for different guns.. don’t see the issue.. and i don’t have to check zero as it is always as i left it 🤷♂️
Great
I just bought a stingir 384 to use as a clip-on. Since it does not come with an ADM mount, how is the return to zero when you take it off from the clip on position and put it back later in your experience?
Also, I love the multicam wrap. Where do I get that done at?
Hey! You may contact LarpLabs for this kind of service larplabs.com/.
It is also return to zero as long as you are mounting in same spot with about the same amount of torque applied when reattaching.
@@AGMusa Thanks! I witness mark everything so it should be good then. ADM needs to come in and add some other QD options though! Being able to go from clip-on to helmet mount would take this unit to the next level.
Sir what is different between thermal and thermal clip.
Nice
There's always points for and against, but with my budget it's all academic.
One day clip on’s will be much smaller and lighter and better performance and will do what is needed. I would guess 1-2 years Max and all the issues you talked about will be gone.
