      Apologies if this was already covered, but have you noticed the Astartes Chapter symbol on the shoulder? during your review you pause it perfectly to show a mauled gauntlet holding a skull. That theme is also on the chest armor, a skeletal hand holding the skull. Perhaps a chapter specialized in hunting pyskers? Great review!

      Well the problem for most is that they didnt know that space marines are always in a supressed fire mode. They never waste ammo or just shoot in a direction of a target as you normally would. Their every shot is precise and on point, not to mention bolt literally fires mini rockets rather than hullets so firing more than once for a small target is an overkill and since theyre resourceful they wont do that.
      Fighting psycher on the other hand is another matter so they had to. I just wish to know which specialization they are since astartes have two where one is that fights psychers specifically and other is for other enemies like humans aliens etc

      What Arch means is that instead of running the marines do a kind of forward leaning skip where they jump maybe 3 meters at a time

    • @cadeyrndragheim22
      @cadeyrndragheim22 5 лет назад +37

      @@Gunanest 1st. It's still running. When you run you basically skip from one leg to another. 2. I don't think they'd be able to do that since you know. They're heavy and gravity. If they had some sort of jetpacks that allowed them to do it sure, but otherwise i doubt it. 3. why would they forward lean when skipping since it would just fuck up their balance. As it is, you already forward lean a bit when running and they also have the armor/shoulder armor which is heavy to compensate for their power packs.
      I mean I'm all for lore but. Whoever wrote that seems like he didn't know how gravity works or how running works and just wanted to give an embelished description of running. Just so it's not normal running. Which I agree that they might have a more explosive style, but it would still be running... And seriously 3 meters is nothing for a space marine. I mean think about it. When we run, it's probably 1 meter distance. They're what 2.5-3 times larger than a human. Plus a lot more musculature. So really 3 meters at a time would be normal running for them.

    • @Gunanest
      @Gunanest 5 лет назад +14

      @@cadeyrndragheim22 Regarding 1. you are right running and skipping are basically the same.
      Regarding 2. we have to remember that these are space marines in the universe of Warhammer 40k if the writers say that space marines travel more effectively by leaping (which is what i should have called it, instead of skipping) then that is what they do, even if it is stupid and unrealistic.
      Regarding 3. the forward lean was a bad explanation on my part and i should have just said that they leap instead of saying that they skip.
      And you're right about the distance thing too, i was being way too conservative about how long both their strides and leaps would be.
      I don't know if what Arch is saying is correct i just wanted to clarify what he meant, that is, that marines leap instead of run.
      In my own opinion, i think that both methods could look pretty cool, but i don't know which one is more correct as i haven't done the math.

      I believe so too. On a planet, or somewhere where they can get foothold, the bounding sprint is possible.

      Yup. Leaping is stupid. If you are capable of leaping then you are capable of running faster than you can leap. Sprinting is the fastest way for a biped to move, leaping would be slower because there would be fewer steps per second - more power but less average speed.

      Leaping makes sense for long distance running, like how gazelles move, especially if its not a smooth surface. 1. At the very beginning of Part 1, the "Argosa Uprisings" is referenced, "...assisting the hunt for fleeing leaders of the rebellion."
    2. The inscriptions on the hoods are psychic wards. Such a concept is not uncommon.
    3. 08:11 -- they clearly are still in possession of their limbs.
    4. The weapon wielded by the psyker is a "shock maul" ... see Part 3 ~0:05
    5. The psykers are the same stature as the astartes.
    6. The only actual problem with the charging Space Marine is that he is wildly swinging his plasma pistol while advancing rather than holding on target and continuing to recharge and fire repeatedly until closing for melee. An astartes would be perfectly capable of accurate fire at a sprint. I won't comment upon the accuracy of his sprinting style, because what Arch describes sounds geeky in the extreme.
    7. The iconography of a skull clutched by a gauntlet is supposedly "retributor," which makes sense since in Part 1 the astartes are referred to as "Retributor Astartes".

    • @Gunanest
      @Gunanest 5 лет назад

      regarding 3. Arch actually mentions the limbs at that point and adds that they look like they are missing the forearm. He also admits at 06:51 that it is possible that they still have them, but that if they have their whole arms left that i would make no sense to restrict them to keeping one arm in their cloak if they could use them to fight.

    • @generic8891
      @generic8891 5 лет назад +4

      My impression was that the astartes ditches the plasma pistol because it overloaded or malfunctioned. He does fire two shots accurately at a dead sprint, but then as the weapon is discarded the glow of plasma dies, as if he wouldn't be able to continue firing anyway.

    I think that after the psykers stop all the bolter rounds, the Marines analyze the situation and conclude in an instant the kinetic shields could be vulnerable to a slower-moving, less energetic assault.
    The first Marine charges in with combat knife drawn and then by sheer force of will (and while held in mid-leap being telekinetically crushed) slowly pushes his bolter's muzzle through the shield and gets off a shot.
    Taking advantage of the distraction, his squadmate shows the other psyker why you never turn your back on an angry Space Marine and it's game over after that - just another day at the office.

  • @gama343
    @gama343 4 года назад +1

    The jumping/bounding gait used by space marines is specifically for covering long distances (ie. dozens of kilometers). It's the equivalent of a hard forced march for the Astartes, for getting from one battlefield to another when transport is not available, not for use in battle to charge an opponent. Just ask anyone who plays any FPS, jumping around may be faster, but it just makes you a huge target for the entire battle field.
    You DEFINITELY don't want to use loud, leaping movements, coming down like thunder with each bound as your multi-tonne power-armor slams into deck plating, alerting your enemy while trying to get a sneak-attack on two psykers who your brothers are trying to distract.
