'Cause if you've ever been to Hearst Castle, they are extremely strict with even touching any items in this magnificant, historic museum! It's amazing this guy was able to do something as epicly wild and crazy as this guy had the guts to do!
Was there today. This is not a swimming pool. It's a dark creepy 10 ft deep lake under two tennis courts. The roof leaks like hell. The upper jump area looks like a ritual balcony. Under the jump platform is a setup to row out a shallow hulled boat.
The state shouldn't have got this property, they are so strict about every little thing. All the historical artifacts should have been donated to museums and the house been sold. I nearly got a fine for picking 1 orange off one of the hundreds if not thousands of orange trees there. The staff are overly aggressive and don't follow the rules everyone else has to abide by. Just another way for California to take your money.
Could be a nice solution to clean up the homeless issue, send them here, jump in the pool, and they get free housing and meals till they can afford to pay the fine in a nice temperature controlled jail cell.

I think it’s a mighty shame that they don’t have people actually living in the castle. It should be used as a hotel (for the wealthy, because only the rich could afford it) as well as a sort of museum for tours. It would help to pay for the expenses to keep that place open and in pristine condition. (Believe me, it’s unusual.) That beautiful house was meant to be lived in, that’s what the estate was built for. Without people having occasional parties up there, it’s like a grand stage but no play to watch. The drama is all gone. It’s all just ghosts now, memories. A house, even a palace, is only as good as the people who live in it. That Roman pool was meant to be dived in. Those books in the library were meant to be read. The billiard tables were meant to be played on. Eventually, the state is going to get tired of taking care of it, if they can’t find a way to make it less of a Money Pit.
