Spirit: The story that I want to tell you cannot be found in a book. They say the history of the West was written from the saddle of a horse, but it's never been told from the heart of one, not 'til now. I was born here, in this place that would come to be called the Old West, but to my kind the land was ageless. It had no beginning and no end, no boundary between earth and sky. I just recently watched it with my best friend for the first time. Because I’m generally not really keen on animated movies (maybe because most of them that I had watched weren’t really that amazing) I haven’t watched a lot of them but „Spirit“ definitely exceeded my expectations. I was already sucked into the movie during the intro and while watching the movie I was surprised again and again how amazing the animation is and especially how the creators captured the emotions and expressions in the animals‘ faces. Truly outstanding!!

Here's a fun fact, for anyone who doesn't know. The DreamWorks film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron takes place in the 1860's, most likely in the state of Oregon. This will be a long comment, but it's a fascinating history lesson. There are a few points in the movie which evidence this. 1. The first is a little known fact about Spirit. Spirit is in fact a Kiger Mustang, which is a unique strain of Mustangs (they are considered a separate breed, in fact) that is completely exclusive to Oregon. We know this due to interviews with the artists who worked on Spirit, referencing a Kiger Mustang Stallion who was chosen by DreamWorks as a colt for the project. His name was Donner, but today the real-life mustang goes by a different name: Spirit. 2. The second and third points detail the time. Obviously, we know it takes place in the old west, or at least the spirit of the west, but there are actually two things that directly tell us that Spirit lived in the 1860s. First, the Colonel. The Colonel is the commanding officer of a United States Cavalry Battalion, which is responsible for capturing Spirit, and later shooting Rain. The character was loosely based on a real colonel, Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer (born December 5, 1839 and killed on the battlefield on June 25, 1876) who played a major part in the American Indian Wars, as well as the American Civil War. The character is noticably well-informed on Native American tribes, able to identify Little Creek as a Lakota on sight. To quote exactly: "Ah, a Lakota. Not as tall as the Cheyenne, not as fine featured as the Crow." After researching the real Colonel Custard, I believe the scene where the animated Colonel leads the Cavalry Battalion to Little Creek's village takes some inspiration from the well-known Battle of Washita River, which took place on November 27, 1868. According to various sources, the real Col. Custard was mostly calm and collected, though his temper would often flare, much like what is seen in the movie. 3. The last point I need to make is the locomotive scene. Personally, I never really liked that scene, it always felt so out of place, but as an adult, I find that I appreciate what the scene does for setting up the world around Spirit. In case you missed it, during the morning report that Spirit listens in on while hitched up in the corral, the soldier speaking directly mentions the Transcontinental Railroad. For those of you who slept through history class, the Transcontinental Railroad first began to be constructed in 1862. For the next seven years, the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad companies raced against each other to build a track beginning on the far west and east side of the US, and linking in the middle. The two sides met in Utah in 1869. So, it cant take place in 1860, 1861, 1862, or 1869. Do keep in mind that this is all (technically) a theory. No actual date has ever been given. Anyway, I hope you all learned something, and hopefully it all made sense to you guys. 😅

Their loss.) It's been a childhood favourite for years and I've only grown to love how exceptionally beautiful it is. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but uggghhhh. Why don't more people like it? The soundtrack is so beautiful and it had to be; it does a lot of the heavy lifting in a film with very little spoken dialogue. Hans Zimmer did it again! Who didn't tear up the first time the "Reunion" theme played over the ending with Spirit & Little Creek's last scene??? I still do! The animators had make the characters more meaningfully expressive than ever to make up for lack of dialogue too. The the emoting of the characters stands out in this film. Also, this was the very narrow window of time when hand-drawn characters were incorporated into heavily CGI backgrounds and settings (which were digitally blended-in to work with hand-drawn characters better). The visual effect is always breath-taking! The Road to El Dorado & the Prince of Egypt from Dreamworks as well as Atlantis: The Lost Empire & Treasure Planet from Disney also had this look. All very beautiful, visually. The opening narration is such a beautiful hook and very poignantly asks you to think about what once was: "The story that I want to tell you cannot be found in a book. This is what we need in movies. Not political correctness -- We need things like Spirit. Just... beauty and freedom. Music without heavy bass beats, animation without limits.
You did justice to a track from one of the most underrated animated film’s in the west (dare I say the world). Spirit is truly a hidden gem that exemplifies the power of animation and story’s that could be told in the medium that hollywood( and wider western cinema) does not tap into. 19 years on from Matt Damon voicing the famous Mustang to the Netflix series and now the upcoming film to be released tomorrow. Spirit has come a very long way in nearly 2 decades since the first film.
Amazing story and movie. Although all the horses seen in America today are descended from domesticated breeds introduced from Europe, making them a non-native species and thus invasive, the horses in Spirit were as "native" as the Pilgrims and that is quite funny to me.
@@enderlemon890 Agreed, bc it doesn't even fit the timeline lmao cause of the differences in time eras, Spirit would have likely died by the time that young girls parents were even in existence XD

I don't understand why so many people continue to give it a miss when it's brought up....oh well.
nah thats not why its mostly cause its the animation and not like the original blah blah i can rant but it feels like a different show and all that shit also they made her a mary sue she kicks a guy off a train super human abilites? she knocks out 5 people HOW shes a child please dont argue just say okay i dont want this to become some REPLY SECTION SHIT
This is my absolute favorite movie of all time-I was estatic when I saw this on my subscription page!
My heart smiles.
this soundtrack next to tarzans and beauty and the beast is amazing!
Glad I grew up watching this..
This is what we need in movies. Not political correctness -- We need things like Spirit.
Just... beauty and freedom. Music without heavy bass beats, animation without limits.
What a beautiful score music 🎶? I hope they sell CD 💿 album for this version
You did justice to a track from one of the most underrated animated film’s in the west (dare I say the world). Spirit is truly a hidden gem that exemplifies the power of animation and story’s that could be told in the medium that hollywood( and wider western cinema) does not tap into. Your track gave me chills...
Thank You
This is suchan amazing tribute. Honestly, I was sick a lot as a kid and this movie was a big deal for me. This is awesome. This brought tears to my eyes, thank you.
One of the best movies ever made and nothing can change my mind on that

19 years on from Matt Damon voicing the famous Mustang to the Netflix series and now the upcoming film to be released tomorrow. Spirit has come a very long way in nearly 2 decades since the first film.
Don't even try to compare that Netflix bootleg to this masterpiece
this so nice to hear
I did not expect this, actually. That was pretty unexpected. GG
This is beautiful! Please do more Spirit songs! :D
Это лучшее, что могло произойти в первый день лета. Незабываемое приключение!

I liked this film and the soundtrack a lot
Wonderful!
Epik banget ,,,,, love this from Indonesia
OMG 🤩 this ones my favorite
Thank you! I love this.
Amazing story and movie. Although all the horses seen in America today are descended from domesticated breeds introduced from Europe, making them a non-native species and thus invasive, the horses in Spirit were as "native" as the Pilgrims and that is quite funny to me.
I ALWAYS REMEMBER this movie, and this songs (MUSIC), I really LOVE it !!! I'M WAITING FOR YOU, HERE I AM... 🤗🤗💖💖✨✨❤️❤️🥰🥰🌈🌈💐💐
Thank you so much for doing this! Spirit forever ❤
The nostalgia though. *squeals*
My fav. Melody
If you don't agree that this movie is an absolute masterpiece, you can't be my friend
Well then i’ll be your best friend
I swear I'm not crying
Spirit was so damn gooddd
The series lowkey ruined iy
Series?!
@@Cerberusballs yeah its an animated series about spirit beconibg friends with a young girl and their adventures. It was really eh
Its on netflix
@@enderlemon890 Agreed, bc it doesn't even fit the timeline lmao cause of the differences in time eras, Spirit would have likely died by the time that young girls parents were even in existence XD
Yeaa I getchu. Shows rarely ever live up to the movies. It was very eh. But that don’t impact my love for the movie at all.
@@petavanlieshout9171 yeahh, and the worse thing is
spirit the movie was all about spirits freedom, and like the first thing that happens in the series is him getting captured and he gets used to that almost immeadeatly
