I have to agree with you and your opinion as well. It is the quietest New Year's Eve not to mention bare in Times Square that I've ever seen. I have been watching New Year's Rockin Eve with Dick Clark may he rest in peace that is now hosted by Ryan Seacrest, anyway for many many years no matter what my condition was in I would always see the ball drop no matter where I was. It was the excitement in New York City. However as I said I've never seen it this bare.

@@Lirrfilmer2004 the sadness comes from the fact that who knows how many hundreds of people plan to be there for this and could not because of either sickness or death from covid-19. It makes me sad to think that but it's true I believe. May they rest in peace and no longer suffer and I pray that their families heal.

Hi I'm from 2021 January 6th and we found out 2020 was just the trailer
I'm not the only one who thought this was depressing, right? Like, in terms of the show itself. They could have done a better job hosting it and making it a good show. I'm not even taking about Corona limitations I'm talking about their ability to provide commentary and host the damn thing. Compare this one to how Dick Clark used to provide commentary and informations and just genuinely excite people. Nothing to do with budget and pandemic limitations, everything to do with being a good entertainer and lifting peoples spirits.

A lot of people didn't make it to this point. I commented on last year's saying how a few of those people in the previous crowd are probably dead. It's so eerily quiet. This marks a turning point.

I don't see a problem with it.
Times Square is still not the same without Dick Clark and it’s not the same without millions of people seeing the ball drop in person. It’s like Thanos creeped up in Times Square, snapped a whole lot of people out of existence, and you end up with just 100 to 200 people remain to see the ball drop in person. Hopefully Times Square gets their major audience back in 2022.
I cried and hugged my family. A privilege that only a few of us have right now. Such a depressing New Year’s Eve in New York. Can’t believe we are still here. Hope this year is way better for everyone! Let’s make the change.

I didn't even get to see the ball drop because they had an ad during it and then noticed when it was too late so that was so great.
This is sad. It is completely wrong that the screen was covered with a KIA ad and another rectangle with a clock. It is a lie that this is a full video of the Times Square Ball Drop. Not that I am in the market, but I hope I remember never to by a KIA.
I guess it actually showed on top of the ads but was very unspectacular.

I stumbled back here after rewatching the ball drop for 2022. The crowds here are significantly smaller and it was a lot quieter. I think what's more depressing is not even the crowd size, but I think this ball drop made it more apparent how gaudy this whole celebration is. Bright billboard advertisements, those hideous planet fitness hats, it's the most anticipated gathering for people and they get absolutely bombarded with ways companies want to sell you their product. Countdowns to new years are fun and it's worth celebrating, but not in this way. I went and watched the one for 2022 and that still was depressing even with the crowd sizes returned. And the years before then? Still depressing.

I was there, and honestly if I had to be in times Square for new years, this was THE year to do it. No tourists pissing themselves because they've been there for over 12 hours, no elbow jostling, no crowd. It was wonderful.
