_Pretty Savage_ is described by most to be the true essence of Blackpink because it truly touches the meaning behind their name. Black represents their talent and fierceness and Pink represents their beauty and feminine side. Also, "Pretty Savage" in Korean is pronounced "Yeppeunjanghan Savage" which is a reference to a line in Jennie's verse in their biggest hit and cataclyst for world domination, _DDU-DU DDU-DU._
There are actually several references to D4 in this song, including the end of Jennie's first verse where she says "Uri ireum teullindamyeon ddu-du ddu-du majeum
Drip, drip, ice it out, bust it down, top to the bottom" (i.e. If you get our name wrong, DDU-DU-DDU-DU hit,
Drip, drip, ice it out, bust it down, top to the bottom) and they actually do the choreo with the finger guns. The meaning of the line is that they're saying if you don't know who they are, check out their biggest hit.
And at the end of the song Rosé's translated line is "Pretty girl, I smile, but I'm not weak." In D4 Rosé sings "I smile easily because it does me good." She's continuing the message that she smiles and is all feminine because it makes her happy-not weak.
The entirety of the song is them comparing themselves to their haters. Jisoo's rap verse translated says "I wore something similar to you, but it looks better on me
When I show up, people scramble to lay down the carpet first
I was black, I was pink, I can shapeshift if I want
Your jealousy is the problem, maybe I'm the problem." And if you notice, the other members in the breakdown during the carpet line actually walk to the sides like they're clearing the way for her strut down the carpet.
There is one stand-out line where they aren't comparing themselves. Lisa's first verse translated says "Born skinny b*tch, thin no matter how much weight I gain." This a line directly addressing the haters who keep bodyshaming her for being skinny. She gets called a skeleton and even had racist attacks against her including words like "ladyboy" because she is naturally very skinny. I'm glad Lisa said something back and embraced herself!
And about the choreography, I partially agree that it could've gone harder. As a blink for years I've seen how the pinks can add so much pop and strength to even a chill type of song so I was surprised and kind of confused why they went for such a simplistic route that seemed to have no correlation to the song's message. On the other hand, I studied their dancing for a bit and realized it's because they didn't want to get the hard booms. They wanted to mimic and *emphasize* the (snare?) drum pops in the background of the song. I actually love the choreography a lot more than I did at first.

Yea I think all the instruments except the synth were live in this one... they added a lot of little transitions and lengthened bars for this performance. It makes a huge diff imo.
The song is just about saying just cause we're pretty, don't underestimate us.

I mean.. i like all kind of music but last few years american pop i feel it's getting boring and predictible (not saying all), kpop producers like to try experimental stuff and its make kpop more exciting than the music we already know and we know what to expect. And yeah... live performance are just better and if you have time for live's - tokyo dome concert is the best for me to recommend(it's available full on yt). If not whole, cut it in parts or songs, Andrea should know why its so good :>
