  • EXCLUSIVE: Raven arguably had two of Goldberg's best matches in WCW. So what does Raven remember about that infamous US Title Match from Nitro? How about the forgotten rematch that they had later on Thunder? Hear why Raven (Scott Levy) believes that Goldberg should have stayed undefeated and how the decision to give Goldberg his first loss was bad for business. Also, did Raven ever think he'd see Goldberg headlining a Wrestlemania in 2017? Raven sat down exclusively with Title Match Wrestling over Wrestlemania 33 weekend in Orlando. This is just one clip of the full interview we conducted. Check back often to see the other parts.

    I've watched that US TITLE Match on NITRO and have shared it many times. Everything about it was great, from Raven laying down the title and telling Goldberg to come and get it, the flock coming in and Goldberg wiping them all out and the audience throwing Raven back over the guard rail. That match was professional wrestling!

Amazing match and in my top 10 matches of all-time. Never get bored of watching it over and over because they suspended reality in incredible fashion.

    In WCW the two best opponents Goldberg ever had were Raven and DDP. Though I tend to like the Raven Nitro match a little more because of the small but awesome things Raven did like walk up to Goldberg and put the belt down between them in a "Here's the line. I'm not going to make it easy for you. Come and get it, if you can!" type of way. Just showed Raven was not afraid of Goldberg thought he could out think him and out wrestle him and at the beginning at least backed that up to make it look like he might actually beat Goldberg. That is until THAT spear that blew the roof off the place. Then it was downhill from there.

    I always looked at Goldberg like he was the Ultimate Warrior of WCW. Just like Warrior, he was just a big musclebound guy with a great entrance, mystique, quick intense matches, and an organic connection with the crowd. They both became really famous really fast and had short runs at the top. They were both marks for themselves and their character and neither grew up wanting to become a wrestler. Even though they had limited in-ring ability, both men could have great matches if they were working with the right guys (Macho Man for Warrior and DDP for Goldberg). Lastly, they both became famous when their respective companies were at a high point in terms of popularity (1988 for Warrior and 1997 for Goldberg).

    • @nyranstanton203
      @nyranstanton203 7 лет назад +5

      It needed to be someone else. I dont know. But it shouldnt of been Kevin Nash at that time. Not even Scott hall. Itr really would take an Ultimate Warrior in his prime or a Hulk Hogan or The Rock or something or a stone cold oran Undertaker. Or a Brock Lesnar. Even though he was in WCW, so they werent really available. If Kevin Nash was the ONLY guy to have a chance against Goldberg in WCW, then there's already a problem lol. Even when Nash was Diesel. He's not th eright guy. I would even go with Shawn Michaels to defeat a Goldberg rather than a Kevin Nash. If it was going to be Kevin Nash, then it needed to be an ultiomate fight to the death adn Nash only scraping by....barely. But just getting the win, when he found Goldbergs weakness or something. Because taking out Goldberg like that, just weakens the whole product.

      He shouldn't have lost for another calendar year, Starcade 99. By then you build up the young guys and one of them beats him. Would have made for a great year 2000 and WCW would have survived.

    • @fizzyfuzz5878
      @fizzyfuzz5878 6 лет назад +1

      I agree. Goldberg, like Raven said was carrying the company on his back. How about Bret or a new star management is trying to get over beats Goldberg by submission in the main event of Starrcade 1999.

    Beating Goldberg isn’t what killed him it was the way they booked him to lose that killed him. And what they did afterwards really killed him. Then Vince Russo slit his neck for good by trying to turn him heel which didn’t work like it didn’t work with Austin

    It was a great title bout, a match that ive watched, re-watched and kept close to my heart. Thing is, if the original plans had taken place who knows where we'd be now? You wanna know what it was? Scotty was supposed to win. Scotty had the book on this one, HE was the vet. When Bischoff changed his mind at the last minute, Scotty got hot. And, after the fact, Scotty snapped and vowed to no-show an event in Saskatoon. And, he did.

    Honestly I was never a big fan of goldberg undefeated streak and he was out there hurting guys. I saw the meng match where he got dropped on his head. Jericho would have been better because WCW was never gonna put goldberg in any matches with mat wrestlers just ask regal about that. Big question is how do u book goldberg and expect to keep the peace in the locker room.

  • @lemmymotorhead4429
    @lemmymotorhead4429 3 года назад +1

    There were numerous ways wcw could have gotten the title off of goldberg without destroying the goldberg mystique...
    I always thought a double KO finish would have been an interesting way to go. For example, goldberg goes for the spear and hits the ring post instead, knocking himself out cold. His opponent is already bloodied and collapses of exhaustion; the referee declares a double KO and the title is vacated...
