    When the 3's ain't falling harden needs to shoot more mid-range step backs seems like he kind of got away from that part of his game

    He's creating potential energy with the dribbling which then gets store into this body right before releasing it into kinetic energy for the shot.

    nice seeing he stays sound on the step back. it's so effective cause he jumps normally, most players tend to fade away which makes it way harder to be consistent. the step back creates the space, no need to fade too.

      He's good at defense, extremely good in the passing lanes, he plays all 82 games in the reg season, leading the League in Minutes and should've won MVP for most Point average, Steals, good amount of rebounds and 8 assists, all those compilation are small amounts of clips when he's tired and needs energy for offense, watch a true defense harden compilation :D

  • @JeffThePoustman

    I like James Harden. I find his play compelling overall. He's one of the league's most exciting players to watch. I also believe he is capable of doing a legal stepback, and that probably, some of his stepbacks are in fact legal. However, he frequently travels while attempting a stepback.
    Opinions about what is legal must yield to the actual, written rules. Please refer to 'Traveling' at www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.html , and watch clips at .25 Playback Speed to have a good view of the quick footwork. (Refs have a tough job to see things at speed on a busy court, but that's their assignment.)
    A legal stepback is *possible,* but very difficult to execute, and in practice even a master like Harden does not, in fact, execute it legally every time. *In this particular clip, for example, by **0:09** Harden has already traveled three times.*
    Travel #1: 0:05 Harden takes three steps between dribbles with his hopping triple step. The fact that he is still dribbling slowly doesn't matter: he takes three steps between times the ball hits the ground.
    Travel #2 0:06 Harden stutter steps with his right foot, two steps, and then steps with his left foot. This is a travel: "When a player gathers the ball he may not step consecutively with the same foot, as in a hopping motion." (www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.html)
    Travel #3: 0:09 he may be attempting to hop back and land with both feet simultaneously, to comply with the rule stating, "If a player jumps off one foot on the count of one he may land with both feet simultaneously for count two." However, the feet do not land simultaneously. This is where Harden *could* legally stepback, but it is really difficult to land with both feet simultaneously and keep your balance, your rhythm, and your quickness on the balls of your feet.
    I understand that a good handful or two of other marquee players, along with Harden, are regularly allowed to travel. This is an enforcement decision and issue, not a rules issue. I believe it is counterproductive to NBA basketball overall. There is no doubt that it is in violation of the written rules. If all players were suddenly allowed 3 steps between dribbles, the game would change far too much to be viable. By allowing an undetermined number of players to generally get away with 3 steps the NBA is harming its own product.
    Traveling is a basic concept in basketball: you are allowed two (2) steps between every bounce of the ball.
    -There is no "zero" step in the rules. "When ending his dribble a player may use a two count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting." (www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.html)
    -"Upon gathering the ball, an offensive player may only take two steps before he must release the ball on the pass or shot attempt." (videorulebook.nba.com/archive/travel-at-the-end-of-the-dribble-player-takes-3-steps-after-gathering-the-ball/)
    -"A moving player may only take 2 legal steps after gathering the ball to shoot, pass, or come to a stop." (videorulebook.nba.com/archive/travel-in-the-post-too-many-steps-after-gathering-the-ball-2/)

  • @dellagovb
    @dellagovb 5 лет назад

    OK, the step back at 3:18 was the first time he actually moves both feet after picking up the dribble. His right is off the ground and is allowed to land as he pushes off the left foot. So long as his feet leave the ground afterwards for a shot, this is legal. Curry's step back was a double step back after he picks up the dribble, so travel. This link ruclips.net/video/ICEb0d3RfUQ/видео.html shows a double step back for Harden at the beginning, so that should have been called, but I see nothing at least in the first half of this video before I lost interest.
