by all things holy.. .this song came into my life 20 years ago.. when I was 29yrs old.. .i know God gave it to me ..he knew I would have to have it to have any chance to out run heart ache and possibly worse... this song...these words. .it could not be more perfect. . it hit me square in the chest head on collision at 175 mph...cant say I'm living...i survived until last Saturday...then in a moment...God sent me a Angel. through my phone... 20 plus years later...after over a d3cade of silence...11 plus years since I've seen her golden wings...and in a moment 20 years of darkness pain begging that man in the black cape to deliver me through this needle and out of this hell I wouldn't dig myself out of... a phone call ...prayer and hope ..she brought my heart beat back and a soul cleansing cry I can't explain has me ready to do all I must...for me..for her...out of the darkness and hate...into the light and life..she holds it all in her hand.... and I won't stop ...i refuse to fail. .this woman woke a sleeping giant...she xantt possibly know how hot and fierce this fire still burns 20 plus years later.... I hope when she stands before me she's ready..i pray she's got her dark shades and she don't look directly in my eyes cuz when she appears in full view of my eyes a nuclear cloud Will erupt drom from this monster and a mountain of love is gonna burst....yes I warned her. I can't hold back...i told her on that day you will need a change of clothes...behind that mountain of love will be me of course..and when her heart touches mine.. I hope she can forgive me. next she's gonna be covered in my tears of joy and a wall of snot I can't believe my nose hasn't straight just gave up and fell off yet... .you are my everything.. .my one and only you only run into this love in a lifetime if you are lucky.. God kept me around My seether woman...8ve been reborn..lets both get ready
This is the truest song ever written and performed! I have lived it! It’s the Cold Hard Truth! Life has been very difficult and sad even after reconciliation!
“If she’d give me one good reason I’d be gone, but she ain’t done one thing wrong.” Might be the simplest and best lyric ever written on this topic. So relatable. I dated my high school sweetheart for 4 years. I spent the last two of those years hoping for a reason to leave. She never gave me one. I finally had the courage to end things. It broke her heart, and I didn’t want to break anyone’s heart.
In watching this video you swear he is the one who wrote this song from his own experience. True country artist and they are so missed in todays ''country''.
I've loved this song since it was released, when I was in high school. The conflict of emotions, the triumph of conviction over passion, the beautiful lyrics, the delivery...everything about it is perfect. Well done, sir.
Beautiful voice for a beautiful song! Her voice is incredible during this song. Don’t believe anyone will try to copy this song. No one will do it justice!

I heard this for the first time today and loved it right away. I feel like the lyrics could have two meanings. One, he's talking to the mistress about how he can't walk out on his wife even though he likes the side chick more. BUT, number two, he could be talking to his wife about how the side chick was great for him, but he loves his wife and won't leave her for a girl from before. It works both ways if you give it enough leeway.
Earl felt every word of this song, you can feel the pain in his voice. Some singers will sing a song like this with a smile on their face, and it destroys it for me, you can tell they're just singing words and haven't lived the song.

There is still some good country out there. The station that I listen to is in LA, and I am in NH, but the music is worth it. It is a family owned station and they play what they want.
I dont know how people dislike this. This is pure goodness to my ears. It reminds me of my dad when we would listen to this in the barn and hang out. Good ole days when we would sit and watch the sprinklers go off and have a speaker of 80s music playing all night. Man, where did those days go.

I can't imagine having lived life without these wonderful country songs from the great US of A. They are the high octane fuel of human feelings. The key to being able to reminisce and contemplate the wonders of life. These songs so often tell a story reaching infinitely further than the actual duration of the lyrics. The modern so-called Rap Music has indeed the opposite effect on many of us and is a sad reflection of the society from where it emanates. The song "The Older I Get" by another hero of country music, Alan Jackson, has such bearing on these feelings.
Dementia has stolen the thunder of another legend. I hope you're jamming with Glen, George, Tammy and all the rest of the Circle. God Bless You And Hold You Near.

I’m like earl thomas Conley ? He’s like yes . And I say holding her and loving u . He says yes that one . I’m like yes dad I’ll gladly play it . It’s a beautiful song . He retired 2 years ago 45 years as a trucker . He said he’s been hearing this song every day for the last week . Lost my mom 12 years ago . He’s a widow . They had their issues in the 80s . I guess my papa related .
❤
He actually looks 😢 while he’s singing this.
In the mid & late 80s you couldn't hardly turn on a country radio station without hearing Earl Thomas Conley, Vern Gosdin, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Restless Heart, Larry Gatlin, John Anderson, Tanya Tucker, T.Graham Brown, Conway Twitty, Johnny Lee, Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton, The Bellamy Brothers, Don Williams, Mel McDaniels, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, Johnny Paycheck, Ricky Van Shelton, Ronnie Milsap, T.G Shepperd, Eddy Raven, Rosanne Cash, Keith Whitley, John Conlee, Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, The Forrester Sisters, The Oakridge Boys, Eddie Rabbitt, Crystal Gayle, Highway 101, Alabama, Hank Williams Jr, Dwight Yoakam, Reba McIntyre, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Charley Pride, & Ricky Skaggs...& I could go on & on.
The mid & late 80s & TNN Network & CMT was so good...this really makes me miss that era of Country Music...
That's when Country Music was still Real Country Music!!!
Man..
I REALLY MISS THOSE TIMES!!!
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Randy Miller you named alot of great ones they all had so many great songs.
ALL the very best Country. Don't forget, King George Strait!
@@AngelLadyinSC
You are so right...I did forget to name King George Strait...I'm so glad you caught that.
Thanks again.
Randy , don't forget that George and Merle did some of their best music in the 80's . that's when Possum did I Am What I Am and Still The Same Old Me .those two albums sent him over the no show years . also The Hag and he did their duo album then the 80's were firmly theirs . I know they are considered to be from the 60's crop though . thanx
Amen !!!!
You can see it in his eyes that he's lived this before.... Me too buddy!
Then you only have yourself to blame.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Why would you say that? Nobody asks to be cheated on! I was saying what I said in Hope's that maybe he felt that way when he was with her or me... I didn't know till after the fact, when I did find out it broke me! This song was just a thought that maybe he felt that way
@@kimberlyshaver5015 If he lived this song, then that means he cheated on his loving wife who was always faithful and good to him. If he lived this live before and you did too, then shame on both of you, cheaters. What do you mean, why would I say that? lol. It's a song about a guy cheating on his loving wife and how it leads to heartache.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Did you not understand that the other commenter was trying to tell you that SHE was cheated on? She wasn't the cheater! Pay attention!
@@Howiesgirl No. She may have meant to say that but she didn't.
She said "You can see it in his eyes that he's lived this before.... Me too buddy!"
Perhaps she isn't paying attention to the lyrics enough to know it's song about a man cheating on his wife and loving both woman, his loving wife who has always been faithful and good to him and his mistress who screws at night behind her back.
If she's relating with him, she's a cheater.
If she wasn't listening to what he was singing about and thought she was relating to someone who was cheated on, then of course, she's simply mistaken.
How you understand her relating to the singer as being a cheating POS lol by actually misunderstanding the song lyrics is beyond me. Perhaps it's something she's trying to explain in her SECOND comment AFTER I condemned her relating to a cheater. Pay attention!
Never have I ever seen/heard a person share perfectly a bruise on his heart both in his words and in his soul felt music that can reach down into other people’s hearts to touch their hurt that was buried so long ago.
This is a beautiful song. So sorry to hear of his passing. One of my very favorite songs. I heard it for the first time at Bad Bobs at Memphis, Tn. Something about his voice spoke to lots of us. God bless his family. His voice will be around for many more years.

An artist must be nominated for the hall of frame. Great artist
He should have been in the Country music hall of fame years ago. This new bunch aren’t even country.
Well said.
Well he should of have been. Probably the best thing they could do to honor his death is induct him into the Hall Of Fame that's for sure.........
One of the best songs ever done!!!!
This was the first song I heard him sing, and immediately fell in love with his music. His voice is so filled with emotion.
Earl Thomas Conley gained his angel wings today 😪 Thank you for all your beautiful songs sir ❤ You will truly be missed. RIP EARL THOMAS CONLEY

Well said. Unfortunately they don''t make many singer-songwriters like ETC anymore. A sad commentary on where the genre...and our world...has gone.

Keith Whitley
Xander Allen love Keith Whitley, I don’t believe he was underrated at all. He’s considered one of the greats, just left us way too soon.
by all things holy.. .this song came into my life 20 years ago.. when I was 29yrs old.. .i know God gave it to me ..he knew I would have to have it to have any chance to out run heart ache and possibly worse... this song...these words. .it could not be more perfect. . it hit me square in the chest head on collision at 175 mph...cant say I'm living...i survived until last Saturday...then in a moment...God sent me a Angel. through my phone...
The difference with the old time singers, their interpretation of a song was as real and sentimental as a vivid experience.
They sang from the heart and spoke to the soul.

Real song! Straight from the heart.
This may be the best damn country song ever.

Thank God for RUclips, Pandora, Amazon or whatever. I haven't listened to a modern station in years
William Johnson. Ain’t that the truth. This is real country music 👍
Same issues people have changed over the years just like this country.
Beautiful song, yet a heartbreaker. Reminds us not to step on or over that "line" when married....world of grief.

Hi Sue, how are you doing
In his eyes you can tell, He meant every word he sang. And I have to admit, so did I as I sang along.
While he is singing this song, there are tears in his eyes. Heart and soul.
Tears in my eyes. My mom loved this song. I lost her almost 2 years ago. It still hurts.
So emotional. with this song back in the 60s one of my favorite country music singer. How are you Peggy ?
I heard this for the first time today and loved it right away. I feel like the lyrics could have two meanings. One, he's talking to the mistress about how he can't walk out on his wife even though he likes the side chick more. BUT, number two, he could be talking to his wife about how the side chick was great for him, but he loves his wife and won't leave her for a girl from before. It works both ways if you give it enough leeway.
Earl felt every word of this song, you can feel the pain in his voice. Some singers will sing a song like this with a smile on their face, and it destroys it for me, you can tell they're just singing words and haven't lived the song.
RIP, Mr. Conley. Thanks for sharing your gift with us. We were indeed blessed.
The emotion on his face really brings to this song to life.

Hello Cecilia, how are you doing
I'm living that now, knowing I'll never be able to love another as much as I loved her!!
This song brings back so many emotions from 30 years ago. Wow! I feel every single word.
I so agree with that comment, his unique voice alone was outstanding and his sound was captivating ♥️ will always love his music, so sad he’s gone🙏
