Nothing like this comes out of NASHEVILLE any more .................
Yep. It’s sad too… this is real country music.
That's because Nashville has gone WOKE! FUCK NASHVILLE THESE DAYS!
You are so right!
Or anywhere for that fact. Computers and f ing auto tune they stop trying to make there voices better and some just can't sing.
Not by a long shot. We were blessed to grow up listening to this.
You can see in this man's face he's speaking from experience....
Earl Thomas Conley is one of the best of all time
Is that his son singing background on this song?,looks just like him, love all his songs ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
Who is still listening to this incredible song 39 years later?

One of the best songs ever done!!!!
I learned about Earl Thomas Conley when I saw Blake Shelton win a big award at the CMA’s and he said that he was giving it to Earl’s family because Earl did not win any of those and he was so deserving to win for his songwriting. Very gracious of Blake.
Been listening to his music for years

No you weren't I noticed it too
Why isn't country music still like this ? Pure classic !!
Damn good question.
Because country went WOKE back in the 90's and it's SUCKED ever since!
money and greed
I try mightily at that query to reflect upon James Coburn at Sam Peckinpah''s (age 59) wake when the same lament passed around that he took so much with him, but "Why isn't"---Not verbatim, but it will do, this evening..."Be ever so grateful to what he left for us. It was a miracle."
It still is. You just have to look for it. Just because pop country stations play pop country doesn’t mean this type of stuff isn’t still out there.
Wow a true country legend ❤
They don’t make em like this anymore the songs that were real and from the heart the made you feel something
Any singer that has a tear in the voice, will make the audience feel the words. He's pretty perfect.

This is what REAL COUNTRY is all about. I don't know where this "new country sound" came from but it needs to go back there. RIP dear sir, you have a voice of gold.

Somewhere, got too much Pop influence. I'd rather hear the music like this, that I heard as a kid.

I’m 46 . My dad is 77 we love music 50s 60s 70s and 80s .burned many cds for him in early 2000s .so I know his taste . Just the other day we had a cookout at my brothers house . As always I’m a dj playing my dad his songs . He asks me for a request I’m like ok dad what u wanna hear? He says early Conley . lol I’m like what my dad likes a little country but not much . I’m like earl thomas Conley ? He’s like yes . And I say holding her and loving u . He says yes that one . I’m like yes dad I’ll gladly play it . It’s a beautiful song . He retired 2 years ago 45 years as a trucker . He said he’s been hearing this song every day for the last week . Lost my mom 12 years ago . He’s a widow . They had their issues in the 80s . I guess my papa related .
❤
Man that guy must have lived these songs he sings.
Regardless of how many times I hear this song it always makes my heart ache. You can hear his genuine personal pain, it's both tragic and beautiful at the same time. You can't fake that deep level of sorrow.
If it's lived experience, then he deserves the sorrow he brought on himself. Had he been true and stuck to his oath, not gotten involved with another woman, while he promised to be true to his love, he wouldn't be in the heartache in the first place. Don't feel bad for people who can't keep it in their pants. Shame on him for getting into a committed relationship if he wanted to continue living a single life. Don't ever put up with sleeze bag man like that, Christina. Know that you deserve far better.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism I have an amazing husband. On June 22nd we celebrated our 20 year anniversary. We both came from broken marriages with a couple children and a ton of heartache. He has 2 boys, I have 2 girls. We survived being a blended family. Our family came with total loons for ex spouses and confused kiddos. We came out stronger for it, I absolutely adore my husband. He's seriously the nicest man you'll ever meet. It's impossible to get mad at him. Seriously, it's really hard. He's got a huge heart.
@@freewarrior6269 That's and easy one. If you never moved on, then you had no business getting into another relationship with another woman in the first place. It wasn't fair to her or yourself. If after years latter, your ex returns and you are contemplating leaving your new wife for your ex, then boy, you've got letting go issues you need to resolve and you don't belong in a relationship at all.

William Johnson. Ain’t that the truth. This is real country music 👍
Same issues people have changed over the years just like this country.
I believe some of us were on the receiving end of this song and some on the taking side. It sounds rather romantic but when it happens it is so very painful. It is so sad to hold one man in your arms and loving another man that you cannot be with. It is the hardest thing I ever had to do. Thank heavens I held on to the man who loved me and I did learn to love him again and this time better than ever. I now appreciated what I had.❤

You are so right, I was in a relationship with a woman I loved and because it wasn’t fair that I had a wife at the same time who I also loved. I finally told Annie what I was doing wasn’t right and after hours of just holding her I left. I still love that girl and miss her so much.
The first time I heard this song I was in the middle of a 22 year relationship with a well known married man. This was before social media and one night he brought me this CD and told me this song said exactly how he felt. He was a rock star so I don't know how he discovered a country song but after I listened to it, we held each other and cried. That was several years ago but I still cry when I hear it
I have been seeing a man for 11 years now who is living (though not married) to another woman. I really felt this song. However, I know at the end of the day, the woman they go home to is the woman they love the most, and we are fooling ourselves if we think otherwise.
@@BornFree6664 of course you're right but every story is unique. I've never regreted my time with him. I travelled the world with him and I'm a rich woman now thanks to his generosity but that doesn't mean it was easy. I finally walked away when his band was inducted into the R&RHOF and the wife insisted on going with him. But I have no regrets.
@@Robyn-mi7pl I don't regret my time with mine either, which is still ongoing. In my case I already owned my home and have a very good job in mining, so had no need for his money which I think is what attracted him to me (I certainly am not young, two years after meeting him my children have popped out 6 grandchildren 🤗). He attends all my family events, childrens weddings, 21sts, birthdays. My grandchildren know him as Nanny's friend. Also, his other partner knows about me, and my family knows also. We only get one life so we must grab our happiness when we can, and he makes me happy.
@@BornFree6664 And that's all that matters. It sounds like you've made a good life for yourself. I think you and I are the lucky ones. My married man is still my best friend. Love and happiness to you and your family.

@@Howiesgirl No. She may have meant to say that but she didn't.
She said "You can see it in his eyes that he's lived this before.... Me too buddy!"
Perhaps she isn't paying attention to the lyrics enough to know it's song about a man cheating on his wife and loving both woman, his loving wife who has always been faithful and good to him and his mistress who screws at night behind her back.
If she's relating with him, she's a cheater.
If she wasn't listening to what he was singing about and thought she was relating to someone who was cheated on, then of course, she's simply mistaken.
How you understand her relating to the singer as being a cheating POS lol by actually misunderstanding the song lyrics is beyond me. Perhaps it's something she's trying to explain in her SECOND comment AFTER I condemned her relating to a cheater. Pay attention!

This song is so pretty...tear jerker 😅
He needs to be in the hall of fame
