I believe David Finch and Ryan Benjamin have both said they worked in background art as well as pencilers. They both mentioned how they were also being taught by either Marc Silverstri or Whilce Portacio (I forgot which one), so they were heavily influenced by them.
That Makes Perfect Sense. The Master - Apprentice Relationship is so important. And also Sharing a Space or Spaces. Working to gether. My Menter became Ralph Niese, and he Always shared his Knowledge and Showed me how to do to stuff...But he also Always wanted to co-operate while I always wanted to do my own thing. But sometimes when you are on your own... You have no back and forht.. and might lose the way.
Bro, i can make it easier for you. None of those guys influenced Davind Finch as much as Frank Miller, Mike mignola, Frank Franzetta. Especially Franzetta. I've spoken to him numerous times at comic con. Own several original drawings. He even expresses on his channel buy yourself a Frank Frenzetta book to study anatomy. In the 90s all those guys worked on one panel or several. So it becomes confusing.
FOR REAL??? FRANK MILLER? MIKE MIGNOLA AND FRAZETTA? Those are my Inspirations... but I do not see them in Finch. I see them in my Stuff^^ But well, sometimes your own Handwriting comes out and you gotta own it! Maybe I should get myself a Frank Frazetta Anatomy Book. I am starting soon a few Comic Project with alot of Muscles, Bullets, Babes, Blades, Monsters and World Ending Bad Guys.
