Just bought a 2016 Crossroads RV that has been flipped by previous owner. I don’t have the Dexter kit installed. What are the dangers /hazards by not having that?
The spring seats need to at least tacked into place. We don't recommend pulling the trailer until they're secured. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Suspension-Parts/Dexter/K71-384-00.html
If you have a 2-3/8 or 3 inch axle tube, you sure can! For a 2-3/8 inch tube, use # K71-384-00 or # K71-385-00 for a 3 inch. There's no reason why you can't upgrade your axle, but if you want to increase the trailer's capacity you'll also need to upgrade the capacity of the leaf springs. If you have 2000 lb capacity hubs and tires, you'll also need to upgrade those so they'll have a matching capacity with the axle and springs. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Suspension-Parts/Dexter/K71-384-00.html
@@etrailer Thats great! Can you still flip the 3,500 axle, keep the same 2,000 weight and leafs for offroading and it wont slip out of the slot if a wheel bounces? the leaf wont come out flipped is what I mean on that part.
That's a great question. Really the only possible disadvantage is that installing the over/under kit will increase the ride height by the diameter of the axle and the thickness of the spring pack. In most cases this won't be an issue but if your trailer is already tall raising it further could cause it to be top heavy. This could possibly make you a bit more susceptible to trailer sway in windy conditions. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Suspension-Parts/Dexter/K71-384-00.html
I am considering doing this same thing on my utility trailer. Does the tube going from hub to hub on most trailers have a slight bend in it to allow for camber?
when torqued the steel stretches a tad keeping a tension taht keeps stuff locked together. if you torque it again the bolt has already been stretched. if you think this is expensive, dont ever get an aircraft--- all bolts get used one time.. and it has to pass inspection
Great video but dexter axle includes parts you don't need as you can just reuse what you have. The U bolts and nuts are copies and the plate could be reused too. In fact I reused my stock nuts as they have a built in washer and lock washer! If you want a washer and lock washer you must buy them separate to go with the dexter nuts! 2/3 of the parts in this kit aren't needed. Dexter axle- you are a quality company and will make even more money if you quit ripping people off! Chintzy to get a few more dollars!
Youb know lock washers are only supposed to be used once right? Once you smashed them flatv they aren't goodv anymore. Nylon lock nuts are pretty much the same. You can reuse them but once a bolt goes through them there there isn't as much material to hold them in place. Furthermore you could of just use the Dexter nuts as a jam nut
Your lift amount that you get with this kit is the diameter of the axle plus the height of your spring pack. This lift was a little over 4 inches. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Dexter-Axle/K71-384-00.html

I was going to say that about no battery powered drivers
I actualy like to see manual tools way too many people think they cant DIY stuff without spending 1000 bucks on tools before
Thanx for the instructions without telling me a story about the weather. 😁
Thank you for taking the time for this video🍺🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻💯💯

I would roughly say you lifted the axle 5 inches??
Could you put bolts up through the original bottom plate into the "couplers" that are in between the two plates?
Someone get this man an battery powered impact
should've used a flat tape or tailor's tape measure to measure the circumference of the axle then divided it by pi to get the diameter.

I'd jack it up higher to start with... but now you'e got to lower the fenders. ;)

Hello, yes it is common place for axles to have a "bend' in them. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Axles.aspx?Redirect=1
Yes. This is why you need an axle flip kit like this. You can't just flip the axle over and out the bow side down.
@@davidschlarp1606How about just reversing the left and right end of the axle, this can't be done?
Can just reuse the old u bolts and plates and buy me a new spring seat??
The u-bolts really should only be used and torqued once.

The lock washer is built into the bottom of the widened nut and thus can be reused. My comments stand.
You never want to reuse u bolts, lock washers or nuts on any suspension components.
