Cutting a Sight Glass Tube to Fit on a Steam Boiler

The glass tube starts out too long (if it was too short, it would have been set aside!). So, what to do?
Cut it to proper length, sure...but how? With a "w" style glass tubing cutter, of course. A steel rod just the right diameter is put in the shorter end to get the right leverage to snap the tube at the scored line.

How far in does the sight glass get measured? Cut one today, old one was was chipped deep and leaking. Was wondering how to decide if the new one is to long besides breaking it .

Where do you get that tool to cut the glass? Can't find it online.

It might not be available directly on-line. This is old tech, after all.
You might need to go through a brick and mortar plumbing warehouse.

The sightglass stem was pulled. If you put the tube in all the way without the stem, you will wind up with a tube that is too long (ask me how I know! LOL).
