We sit at the feet of a wise Sage, and listen . Well done. I try to tell my granddaughter when we watch the videos she said today I thought he just played Bass! Kids.
I got up earlier this morning to go out with the road sweeper and we are in the middle of a rain storm... so I made myself a flat white and I am kicking back listening to Mr Leland Sklar reminiscing on a life that continues to be so well lived making the most of every moment. You are such a treat to listen to, your story telling and music has got me the 2 major lockdowns here in New Zealand. Thankyou for the stories and thankyou for the music.... and thankyou for the very blunt and mater of fact political commentary on Facebook... sometimes we all need to be cracked out of our funk ... "Empty your cages and see the trees filled with life".... you gotta love that.... Anyway rains storm is setting down.... got to get into my Thurday morning here in NZ
Wouldn't it be great if maybe one day every couple of weeks, you just told stories, no music, just a story or two. They're pure gold. Thanks, as always.
My father taught Andy Griffith’s younger brother, Sandy Griffith, how to fly in Kansas back in the mid sixties. Another weird story that connects us all. Anyway, you’re a hell of a great storyteller. Bests.
Just love your history ❣️ Please NEVER stop sharing. Such a full and wonderfully adventurous life💓💓 Rhapsody in Blue...perfect background. Ohhhhh, and hair is overrated, and doesn't grow on a busy street😁🤪 Thank you for today Leland. Stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a wild Wednesday 👍😉
Thanks for the stories Lee.......SO GOOD......Love the Stanley Kramer ONE......You must have been like......Is this really happening!!!!!? Love how Humble Phil is.. Andy sounds like such a gentle soul and Billy Bob is just a DUDE!
Damn - I missed the Clubhouse livestream this afternoon due to work obligations - but will be watching the recording tomorrow, pretending it's live ;) Love this post! So love your stories, Lee, and can listen to you speak for days. YOU should be the host for "Prairie Home Companion".
😁😁. Must be your most excellent karma!!!! I came a little too close to being run over by John Wayne in my little cheerleading outfit (band auxiliary) back in H.S.-- but that brush with celebrity thing doesn't work out the same way for all of us, ha! Seriously (we all love the stories and) the Gershwin behind you reminded me of the recurring theme of varied paths within musicians' careers. Also back in HS we had a choral accompanist who used Gershwin while competing in the Miss CA pageant. She was, at that point, a classically trained pianist with a music degree, beautiful, and had lustrous dark hair somewhere down past her waist. Also a tremendous vocalist and tall. Star quality. And she has definitely had a long career in music (restaurant work, musical direction, college teaching, performing in groups she formed, etc etc etc and she seems to have had an exemplary life. But do not see her in coverage of the Met Gala....
I just re-watched "Manhattan"by Woody Allen and this song starts it off. love it. my friend, Vic Chesnutt was in Slingblade--that was the last movie my mom went out to see before she passed. love these stories.
You are absolutely right about Slingblade. 'Carl' was as seminal a character to the film as Boo Radley was in To Kill A Mockingbird. Serendipity gives us unexpected opportunities, and your encounter with Billy Bob Thornton was certainly one of those. I flipped between Colbert who hosted Bob Woodward & Robert Costas discussing their fascinating, if frightening, book 'Peril', and watching Kimmel. I should have pvr'd one, to my regret. As usual, your stories delight. You made my day.
Enjoyed todays , all the stones, just as much as the music.Would love to hear more.I find it quite fascinating..your life and all that you have met.Be safe Stay safe Leland. Make it a great day !!
Lived near that studio, on Lankershim …love the stories today. Can’t wait for the livestream…GRRRR is for louder Gershwin, that’ll make your frustration pass….stay safe🖕
Looking forward to our LCH hang today. You probably already know, but Andy’s very first recording was his take on the sport of football after attending his first game.
Interesting that you mention Andy Griffith. The other day, CBS Sunday Morning did a story about a town trying to patter itself after Mayberry. Unfortunately, it came off more like...
Have story related director mr Stanley Kramer and his cinematographer ernest laszlo who collaborated on movies judgement Nuremberg 61 mad mad mad mad world 63 ship of fools 65 whilst in Hollywood encountered mr laszlo,s daugter jeannie who graciously invited me into her residence talked movie history even let me hold her fathers cinematography oscar for mr Kramer,s ship of fools...thank you sir for bringing back memories..peace
Hello lee, the end was funny man. I was warned, but still was going huh?????, oh yeah. A split second I thought internet connection gone again? Furthermore that story about Stanley Kramer was very interesting. Too bad you didn’t inform us about your visit to the eye doctor. Maybe next time. I’m really curious. Have a great meeting with your fans.
@@lelandsklar6363 that’s good to hear. But now you still has that problem with reading sheet music or don’t you? Or seeing the conductor? In your profession that’s a problem.
Many years ago sat down on a bench another guy was sitting got talking he was a 'tramp' had very interesting life was in his sixties some 45 years have past wonder what he thought of someone taking time out to listen to his story strange how things go
Came for the music, fell in love with the stories, the canines, the candor and the laughs!
So funny Andy Griffith. To get a call from the sheriff of mayberry
Great story

Do one of these a week. I really enjoy the stories. You've gotten to play with and meet people most of us can only dream of.

Slingblade my favorite movie. Got it on dvd. Time to watch again. I enjoy music Daniel Lanois plays in it

Yeah VC wasn't in it long but it was good to see him. I was really sad about his death. Slingblade...quite a movie
Must be hard to remember the movie remembering the passing of your mom
Loved this video❤Music is not required for me to watch.🙏👍
Another couple of great stories, at the end of the day everyone is a fan.
Cool chat today! Some great stories, thank you for sharing them with us!

:) I like the stories also.
Rhapsody in Blue! Perfect! (Happy Mabon - First day of Autumn)
Barney Fife: Now kids.... when you go through Mt. Pilot - keep your hands inside the bus. Bless
These stories remind me of something I heard somewhere: "Oh, fortune and fame's such a curious game..." 😉
Love the stories, thanks for sharing them!
Love the anecdotes Lee 👍🏻 - stay safe

Did not want to be shouting over the music. Just for mood today!
Love ya brother!
Don't tell me you played on the Gershwin song too. LOL!
I have become virtual friends with people who have impacted my life. They are the Immediate Family.
The perfect days for Gershwin or Porter are the days that end with a 'y'. Of course, Jobim could also be in that conversation.
Dwight Yoakam is also amazing in Sling Blade!
He is fabulous!
Oh yeah..I remember being surprised he could be so mean in the movie. And people were shocked to see Dwight was bald
You rock Leland
Interesting share today! Always a treat. 🍂🎵🙂🎵 🍂
Attending my Nieces wedding 👰💒🤵 in Morrison, CO near Red Rocks. Early Evening Beautiful Fall day. 🍁
Enjoy
Looking forward to our LCH hang today. You probably already know, but Andy’s very first recording was his take on the sport of football after attending his first game.
Here’s a clip of him doing it on Ed Sullivan’s Show

Yes! His comedy records are wonderful. Also No Time For Sergeants, Onion Head and A Face in the Crowd which is one of the great performances ever!

Evening Leland
Hey.......
Say the same thing from Phoebe Snow once backstage at show in Cincinnati . How people see themselves is very different to the Public image.
I loved Phoebe Snow (the poetry man) Sad she died so young
Interesting into Lee... and you are gone... :-)
😎👍❤🖖
Love brother

What sounds better?:
A. Lee Sklar, bassist/raconteur, or
B. Lee Sklar, raconteur/bassist? I can’t decide…
Hello lee, the end was funny man. I was warned, but still was going huh?????, oh yeah. A split second I thought internet connection gone again?

Everything was fine. My prescription has changed so little that not worth getting new lenses. All is good. 👍🏼

Maybe its important that you remember what he said
@@lastnamefirst4035 Yes agree he loved the life freedom and had his winter places sorted , been on the road for a very long time
The stories have no parallel with their local flavor and depth. Anyone working on a Ph.D. in oral history, focusing on music, should take note.

What are NFT’s?
Please Lee, don't use Gershwin as backround music. It's reducing good music to noice.
