JIMMY PAGE OF ( LED ZEPPELIN ) loves this band.
He met the group back stage and asked if he could have his picture taken with
the drummer( AKANE ) she thought it was a dream ( it was not ) a rock legend
like that giving props to the girls, how awesome is that.Jimmy Page( LED
ZEPPELIN) just after seeing the band play in Tokyo in 2016. He complimented
Akane. Akane was star struck. She later said Mr Jimmy Page-san offered her much
encouragement and she promised to do her best. The talent level is off the
charts, These girls are flat out ROCK STARS. SHRED ON LADIES...

@Unhinged Reactions 'Thrill' is a solid rocker, but they only went up from there. It just gets better.
    They are:
Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - band founder, main lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals and spokespigeon.
Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals, main music composer.
Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, backing vocals, sequencing. Half human and half gorilla.
Misa (ミサ, stylized as MISA) - bass, occasional assassinations.
Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - main lead and occasional backing vocals.
Their whole catalog is solid, but I'll put in my usual request.

Welcome aboard, Unhinged. You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of rock n’ rollers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular.
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written slower tunes like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with over 20 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: ruclips.net/video/__1th7ctgMo/видео.html and the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: ruclips.net/video/4uIYBkAybCI/видео.html If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BR & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days, Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.).
Saiki Atsumi “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 25 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Holding the line in solid guitar rock, Band Maid has picked up the mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the Westeren music scene dropped it.
Some of the best music out there right now is comming from Japan! Along with Band Maid, Babymetal just topped(#1) Billboards 'Top Rock Album' with "Metal Galaxy". First Asian group to ever do it. X-Japan has been around for generations as well and are still cranking out the Metal! Aldious, Maximum the Hormone, Wagakki Band and many others have been burning up the Rock and Metal scene for the last decade and the West is finally taking notice!

*Or "Blooming" - a more complex arrangement. The maid outfit concept has probably already been explained in other posts but is meant as as a sort of parody of playing heavy rock (the cliché of black/leather) but looking the unexpected opposite. The three main musicians (guitar, bass, drums) are all classically trained, so more than competent ... 😉😀

From wikipedia : Band-Maid's image is modeled on maid café hostesses, with the standard uniform adapted to match each member's personality. In interviews, they explained the concept came from founding member Miku Kobato who had previously worked at a maid cafe in Akihabara. This theme is reinforced by the band, who refer to their male fans as "masters," their female fans as "princesses," and their concerts as "servings." The band's "submissive" maid appearance is meant to contrast with their aggressive rock style.

A little fun fact, this is their first music video, and in this video the rhythm guitarist (Kobato Miku, the one with red flower on her head) still can't properly. She's only started practicing guitar from the lead guitarist (Kanami Tono, the one with red guitar) since then (2014). Now, Miku is crazy good at her instrument.

They're hard rock, not heavy metal, but they have a few songs that toe the line. Reincarnation is probably their heaviest song and it's off their album that came out in December.
Also: Thrill is their first single ever, at that point, they didn't write their own music and the rhythm guitarist was new to the instrument. In the years since, they started writing their own stuff and they've all gotten WAY better at their instruments.

  • @danwiesdamageinc
    @danwiesdamageinc 4 года назад +9

0:10 No, they're not metal. They're hard rock with elements of punk, metal, J-Rock and pop.
6:22 Apparently, "Just breaking new gate" is Japanese slang for something like "Popping your cherry" - new experience.
6:45 No. The band wasn't allowed to record their songs until their 1st full-length album 'Just Bring It' (when it gets really good), with the exception of 'Alone' - a track on their 3rd EP. They got a little input on the lyrics during that time, but not much. I guess the Japanese music industry is run much in the same way Nashville runs the country music industry.
8:05 It helps that learning music is encouraged in Japan, and all of the musicians, with the exception of Miku (red rose in maid cap), have been playing music since they were small children.
8:39 Yes, they have a great sound, but the latest album seems to have screwed up in that regard. I hear a lot of complaints about the mixing and mastering of it.
Also, it's not that uncommon to see all-female rock/metal bands in Japan. It may be an extension of the all-female idol groups, but unlike idol bands, they formed themselves. Mary's Blood, Aldious, Lovebites, Brats, DOLL$BOX... just a few for example. Gimmicks seem to be a big part in the music scene in Japan. I guess with all the competition, you need a gimmick to stand out from the crowd. I, personally, hate the maid outfits. It's completely unnecessary. Well, at least in western cultures. The fact that 5 tiny Japanese women are throwing down the sound they're throwing down is mind blowing enough. But then, if the maid outfits are a punk-rock middle finger to the idea that women need only be cute and subservient to the dominance of men..... well.... then I love the maid costumes. The fact that there are album photos of the band giving you the middle finger (and a brief shot of the lead singer flipping off the crowd in one of their live videos) tells me the outfits are a social commentary on the status of women in Japan. Very punk.

This is their first MV, in 2 weeks it hit 3 million views on YouTUBE. They at first did not believe it but found it was real. The majority of the views were from the US and Europe. MISA, bass and Akene, Drums are from the Tokyo School of Music, Kanami, lead guitar college training, Miku, rhythm guitar from Jpop training and Saiki, vocals professional vocal training starting at about 14/15. They were working as session and backup musicians prior to Band-Maid. The maid uniforms are the gap, a Japanese thing meaning the difference in what you see vs what you hear. This song is not by them, at the time their company was not accepting their songs. Pretty much all of their newer stuff is written by them. Also they are live band much like other Japanese bands. The Jimmy Page story is true, by the way.

Please listen SHOW-YA. They are still existing band from the 80s ^-^.
Some of my favourites are Band-Maid, Bridear, Mary's Blood, Gacharic Spin and Lovebites.
English Lyrics are often not so good, but Japanese lyrics make more sense.
Japanese is perfect language for singing I think. Every vocal is followed by a konsonant in japanese (except N sound which is special). So you can break up every word in tiny brackets while singing.

5:54 -- Oh man, you'd be surprised. There are a LOT of excellent Japanese rock and metal groups out there that sound fantastic. Bands like Unlucky Morpheus and Tears of Tragedy (both power metal), Show-Ya (all-female 80s heavy metal), Bridear (also all-female heavy metal), Undead Corporation (metalcore), Imperial Circus Dead Decadence (symphonic extreme metal), Ironbunny (80s-inspired hard rock), Blood Stain Child (trance-infused melodic death metal), Sigh (black/avant-garde metal)... And those are just some of the bands I personally listen to.
Japan is the 2nd biggest music market in the world, right behind the US, so if you dig around enough you'll find musicians that can easily rival some of the best Western artists.

They have Metal influences, but their Range is wide. More Hard Rock than Metal for the most part, but they have some soft Ballads and Power Pop as well. If you hit on one you don't care for just go to the next excellent song. They're all different yet all distinctly BAND-MAID. Check out some of their newer songs, and the stuff from their Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert, as well as their April Fools persona BAND-MAIKO.

Awesome reaction, if you guys liked this one then you will like the rest that is out there, I personally have their entire collection of albums and mini albums, and everything they do is freaking awesome. One other thing, if you did like Band-Maid then I strongly suggest others like Aldious, Lovebites, and Bridear also all-female band out of Japan.

Well, what can you add after Tom Clark's comment? If you enjoy seeing live bands, Band Maid is the group for you. Two hours of excellent songs. No fill ins or cover versions or pointless talking to fill out the time. Miku, rhythm guitar has her magic spell time for about 5 minutes or so, where she talks to the crowd. They played six shows in the USA this year and I believe they all sold out.

Band-Maid is a hard rock band. The founder of the band worked for Maid Cafés which is like working at MacDonald's restaurant in the states. One day the 810 year old pigeon that rents space in Miku's beautiful head told her to form a hard rock band and have all the members dressed up like Maid Cafés employees and stun their audience with blistering music. Miku thought Kobato's idea was great except Miku had no experience with Western style rock n roll and she did not know how to play any musical instrument. And that didn't hardly slow her down. Kobato is the 810 year old pigeon who resides in the same body as Miku. Seriously? Yes, indeed.
BTW Breaking new gate is slang for taking a woman's virginity. Listen to Don't Let Me Down. All in English and XXX rated. Our ladies are no angels. They are one of the very best live acts l have ever seen. Caught them at the Echoplex last September 30th.

all female Japanese metal bands? Fate Gear, Bridear, Lovebites, MArys Blood, Aldious, Doll$Box, for a start, then you can get into the Alt-Idol scene with BABYMETAL, Passcode, Broken by the Scream, Necronomidol.... It's a great rabbit hole to dive into because the barriers to entry on song writing and instrumental skill are high.

You say you don't see a lot of all-female Japanese bands that do heavy metal, but you probably haven't been looking. Here are a few fantastic all female Japanese bands to check out:
Exist Trace, Aldious, Bridear, Mary's Blood, Lovebites, Disqualia, Galmet, Cyntia, Doll$Boxx, Ragdollz, Telecide, Brats, Fate Gear, Rivini, Ganglion, Otoboke Beaver, Scandal, Destrose, and the classics Show-ya, Valkyrie, Yellow Machinegun, and Gallhammer. I'm sure I'm forgetting some other good ones. There are dozens more.

"Thrill" was the band's very first single. It's a decent song, but a very simple groove. The girls seem a little uncomfortable in the video. Almost everything else they've done is better than this. My personal favorite is "Secret My Lips" (official MV is good). Other good choices are the Live videos of "Puzzle" or "Play." Their most recent single release is "Blooming," which has an excellent music video.

They have grown experientially since Thrill. Here are a few more songs to check out. These ladies are the real deal to the point where each member is irreplaceable to the bands sound and direction. I've been listening to these ladies for a couple of years now and I LOVE watching peoples reactions to them. Here are some more clips to check out from one the finest rock bands on the planet.
I hope you enjoy your Band Maid journey (no doubt you will).

    BUBBLE MV - ruclips.net/video/T_PWQtc7zVw/видео.html
FREEDOM Live- ruclips.net/video/FYGcOB8S_AM/видео.html This clip shows you how much they enjoy themselves and how quick they react on the fly... Saiki (singer) is lost in the crowd so Miku (rhythm guitar) has to take over the lead vocals.
There are plenty more songs both MV's and Live, but this should keep you busy for a while. Enjoy.

Japanese arts programs are A1. So many great guitarists and drummers there and their females rank in the top 10. Senri Kawaguchi at 24 is the world’s best female drummer. Kanade Sato is outstanding at 18 and the incredible Yoyoka at 11 has international major sponsorships (Pearl and Ziljian),played at NAMM twice in 19 and 20 and appeared on The Ellen Show.
Back to Band Maid,Akane is a very good drummer and with Miss on bass it’s a tight rhythm section, ironically though Miku on rhythm guitar couldn’t play at this stage as seen here and only learnt from Kanami on lead in the following years.
Kanami has composed all of the bands music since 2017. Ironically management and the label didn’t consider her songwriting skills were good enough in those early years.
However this period did produce some of their best material. On the 1st album New Beginning,Real Existence,Don’t let me down and Shake That and Thrill.

If my understanding is correct, every Japanese child is required to learn to play an instrument all the way through school. Therefore, there is an abundance of females who have spend at least a decade or more playing. I believe this is why Japan has so many all female metal bands that can actually play. When it comes to rock and metal, Japan is doing it right and doing it well.....of course with the caveat that Western standards do not apply there.....Japan can be very "wheels off" when it comes to music, mixing genres and concepts that sometimes baffle Western audiences. As an old metal head like you guys, I find Japanese metal to be a breath of fresh air. Groups like Band Maid and Baby Metal are something very different in a metal world that has been on life support for decades.

In case of playing an instument from childhood: I think Kobato and Saiki didn´t learn any instrument before BAND-MAID, and Rina Suzuki from SCANDAL was the only one, who had played an instrument (piano) for many years before learning drums. But You are right. The level of musicianship is very high in Japan.

There is actually a few all-female bands from japan that does metal, like Bridear, lovebites, mary's blood, aldious. That being said even if I enjoy some songs, wich is already allot considering the amount of bands that try to be successful and I don't even know what they say most of the time, it's far from the best things and Band-maid is still my favorite all-female band. And I consider band-maid more hard rock than metal.

Thrill is a good starter, but not showing the bands true potential.
Especially on the drumming, where Akane (who is praised by Jimmy Page). Also Misa and Kanami doesn't really shine here. Here naturaly "Play", would be a better starter. then you got "Moratorium", "Dice", "Puzzle"... and the latest "Blooming" MV.

Hey, Avery. Yeah, Band-Maid musicianship is of the charts, which you'll hear with their more later material, like: “Reincarnation” ruclips.net/video/CQ9dbEVgZcA/видео.html and a 100 others. As for their maid outfits - if you decide to find out more about them -- see my blurb above, for example - I think you'll be surprised with the reason they wear them. This group is the real deal on all levels!
