Why does Mike keep introducing the videos, I keep thinking this is hard2hurt lmao
Cause he’s way better at it than me 😂
Oh look, it’s hard to hurt, the akido guy
Haha I’ve heard Icy Mike loves Aikido! 😬😂
Careful. He'll beat your ass haha
@@dannyobrian5957 not again pls! haha
Icy mike don’t skip leg day
That, he definitely does NOT
100% not kidding the skip kick to close the distance without opening yourself is a movement in Xingyi called Monkey.
I think you 2 should legit start a channel together. Seth and Mike. Your slogan can be "we kick your ass and make you smile"
dang that made me cheese hard! hahaha appreciate the support
I love these collaborations with you two.
Thanks! Still got two more vids coming 👍👍
I didn't know there was wavedashing in real life
Isn't it just better to fake the teep and throw punch, instead of hand fighting?
Depends on the person. As a rule of thumb, If you can punch, they can punch too. But trapping helps control the way in a little better
Guard jamming in kickboxing, now thats fun! Usually its more on the "wrestle side of boxing" to fight for a breach and hit from clashing guards, but from a distance its almost novel... I may have learned something here.
Great stuff man! Really enjoying the collaboration.
Got two more vids left!!
@@SenseiSeth That's awesome! Looking forward to seeing them!
Love the collaboration. Great video.
David Williams thanks a bunch David!
Dont block , scoop up the leg and dump him. Other techniques. As soon as he hops and lands use a stop kick against the knee joint.or turn , fade your front leg towards your rear , and deliver a back kick to his solar plexus as he comes in. Or set the distance by moving back , as he starts moving in step in and deliver a side thrust kick . Techniques I have used over the years that work
There is no body shifting , Seth is being nice throwing and recovering g slowly. He is also fighting from an open stance . No backfists, no sucker in and throwing a rear thrust kick. Here is a term not being used. Instead of those flower blocks, limb destruction.
It's interesting watching icy mike figure out JKD/wing Chun tactics
There's a particular thai fighter that uses this sliding fake-teep to enter clinching but i can't remember the name.
I’m sure there are quite a few!!
Screw the teep/push kick ! If you're in that position why not use a front snap kick and do some damage ?
A good fighter with good kicking would get off the line of those flower power kicks and hit him with a spinning back kick.
You have to do more Sparring videos with him..
I’ll try and head back down there soon!
how to do slide with shoes when faking the front kick thing?
It looks like at 2:39 Icy Mike is doing some form of Tegumi
Hey Sensei Seth I'll be attending the Karate in the Pines camp in June that you'll be teaching at. Excited to see you.
No way! That’s awesome. Can’t wait!
Where I trained we were encouraged to kick no higher than the lower abdomen in self-defence, because:
You may be starting from a cold start situation with no time to warm up hence a greater risk of injuring yourself by tearing a muscle, etc.
The surface you’re standing on may be slippery- tiles, wet asphalt, grass, whatever else. The chance of losing balance and slipping or falling over is greater. Add to that your footwear also affects your ability to balance and move depending on your environment, and some kinds of footwear increase your chance of slipping over in a fight.
And my own personal philosophy on self-defence is: if you can’t use the technique inside a public restroom stall/ toilet cubicle, or on a moving bus the technique may not be practical for self-defence application.
Well then it depends on skill level right? I know for a fact I can throw a kick to at least the upper chest in 99% of situations. I don’t wear clothes that would inhibit that and I also have enough situational awareness to know whether or not I can safely throw a kick on the surface I’m on! Smart to say to people who aren’t as trained though, it’s all about knowing what you’re capable of
Must Thai hop basically? I agree only thing is that in real life you may not get chance to throw two fakes to set it up. Most street fights are seconds. However it's a badass move n the uninitiated Def drop them hands 😎👊
Pretty similar to a Muay Thai hop for sure! Good eye
Sensei you put the wrong link for his channel lol
What??
ZHTTX thanks for letting me know bud!!
You guys are great thanks for all the tips
Any time my man!!
1:58 the unicorn of mma and self defense "trapping range" some have said it doesn't exist...the fools
Imbeciles lol
I tend to have that problem. Dropping my hands when side or front kicks(specifically) come at me. I know better, but I just haven't trained how to properly defend those 2 kicks. Whether its kickboxing or capoeira, I still struggle defending them. Luckily, because I know I shouldn't, I typically throw my hands back up top to make sure my top is defended. But there have been a few times when someone could've landed a devastating side to my face, but they pulled back right before contact.
Gotta make sure you work on that for sure. Make a conscious effort next time you spar to let people hit your legs more. Seems silly but it’s better than your face
@@SenseiSeth yeah. It takes a conscious effort to remind myself, "let hands defend upper body, legs defend lower body." I used to be good at catching those front/side kicks.

Headbutts if youre doing lethwei aswell
Seth is a beast!
Idk about beast, but thanks for the love!! Haha
Sensei Seth ...oh definitely, trust me!
R Marin 😂🙏
Trapping ... little bit sounds like wing chun hehe :D
Sure does!
Trapping can be effective when trained and applied. Especially if most fighters dont expect or understand it. I've used it in sparring and they generally dont know how to defend it other than stepping back. But when I do get a good trap, my strikes are there.
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 i know, my friend trained wing chun... i like boxing, and i have big problem with deal to trapping techniques :)... (sorry for my english) :D
Hopefully the question does not sound asinine being asked by a laymen, but what is the difference between a Gyaku Zuki vs. a rear hand cross?
Not a troll question by the way, just genuinely curious.
😂 That outro!
You must probs have never seen anything like it, huh? 😂😂
Sensei Seth It was 🥇
😂😂 thanks!!
Yeah bro...no joke, that’s Wing Chun... front kick to setup trapping range
and that position that you couldn’t name yeahhhh we call it chi sau
Oh nice!!
you only needed to watch two kicks from Itchy Mike to know what he does when he throws his front kick...on the third kick you tag him...and then pounce.
Easy to say that when you’re not sparring and moving around. I use this move all the time now!
@@SenseiSeth IT is easy to say, and the opponent gets a vote too. But it's what we do though, right. Probe, watch and exploit.
