Tried this strategy out, tested it in TT Simulator, and found a counter to it on the very first game I played with the Axis. Assuming we're playing OOB rules, all Japan had to do was take Honolulu and Sydney and the game was over. Since you opted to keep prioritizing the Atlantic in your Pearl Harbor attack review, that left Japan open to take the Hawaiian islands on turn 3 and hold it for the rest of the game. Yeah, but... We didn't see how this game was played in full. If Japan moved fast to Hawaii then the US would have to respond there. I think the answer to your middle Earth strategy, could be to defend Germany/Europe until Japan can help knock out Russia. A give up on middle Earth by Axis strategy.
If Japan had gone with more strength towards India you could drop a naval base in Shan State or the island of Sumatra, and then submarines/naval units, could move from the Philippines to sea zone 38 or 41, and control sea zone 80 from there since they could now travel 3 spaces so you couldn’t keep moving around your transports freely without escort. Germany 1 bomber, Germany 7 infantry, 2 artillery collect income: 56 IPC. That’s how to combat middle earth.
When you talk about combatting Middle Earth you have to also come up with a strategy for winning the game. The German Afrika Corps strategy that I have on my channel is one that I developed to combat Middle Earth. It was effective in overcoming the UK in the Middle East and strengthening the Italians, but in the long run it was a losing strategy because it drew the Germans away from where they should have been concentrating on. Any Allied strategy that draws Germany away from conquering Moscow as quick as possible is one that allows the Allies to win the game. It's not that difficult to come up with ways to have the Axis gang up on the UK to prevent them from deploying Middle Earth. When I play the allies I'm used to my opponents trying too hard to defeat the British because of my challenge to defeat that strategy. You can see it coming from a mile away and so you don't build a complex on UK2 in Persia. You take what the Axis gives you and then you beat them with the Russians and the Americans and make them pay for not making an all-out assault on Moscow There's no guarantee that the Allies will win, but at least they will have a chance if you suck the Axis into chasing the British down to the Middle East or anywhere else on the map (including London). There's very little chance for the Allies to win if Germany and Italy go balls out toward Moscow while the Japanese does everything it can to keep the Americans chasing them in the Pacific. If you go Middle Earth and they don't chase you then you can try to help out the Russians but it's not as successful as when they do chase you. You need to dice them on the rolls and delay them long enough to make inroads on Western Europe so the odds are in the Axis favour if they play it straight up.
What I do with the axis is not do a J1 attack. That way you can't build your floating bridge and middle earth strat. Italy will have enough time to build up a navy and planes to take down that UK fleet in middle earth. Plus I can always make a push with a japanese navy to stop it.
Brian I'm not sure I get where you're coming from it will be round three before a Japanese Flotilla can get to the Red Sea is that what you were suggesting between round one and round three the UK is welcome to trash The Italian fleet all at once because Italy in the UK are at war at the start of the game please expound further on what exactly you're talking about
Just take the One ring to Mount doom and put it into the fires, only then will Sauron be removed from MIDDLE EARTH. Concerning the Middle EAST I think putting major pressure on the UK (even coming down from Caucasus through Soviet?) all over the globe? Africa is lost always for Axis, I feel chasing UK or US there is only giving the Allies time... Middle East as you say is key. Turkey is always tempting but then .. no. I never dared do it.
If the Axis concentrate too much of their attention on the Middle East then they will be forgetting the other Allied nations. As always you need to find the right balance in your allocation of resources.
True, but if Moscow and London are to hard to crack what can you do? Japan can take India so someone should pressure the UK elsewhere. Italy is to weak I feel to do it, it is up to Germany...
Have you ever seen or tried a DEU factory in Greece? That way DEU could shuck troops quickly into Syria and disrupt middle earth. Too expensive/diversionary for DEU to pull off??
This may sound ridiculous buut have you ever tried pulling a hail mary with the japanese fleet. if America is involved in the med maybe the pressure from the US is relieved
I haven't tried that but I've wondered if maybe that doesn't just open Japan up to counterattack on the Pacific side of the board. I would certainly do that if I was controlling the US and ANZAC. I guess it all depends on how many boats Japan has and how many they are able to leave behind.
Yeah, expending the Luftwaffe like that reeks of Goering's arrogance during the evacuation of Dunkirk, not to mention the Battle of Britian, but as much as I hate the Fat One, I don't really see another option, especially since Airborne depends on R&D in your game. In our games Airborne is a given. Honestly, even Airborne Operations would only be a diversionary manuever, unless ze Germans have a coupla Me-323 Gigant transports.
Hey GHG, are your infantry dudes Airfix sculpts? I recently got some Airfix Afrika Corp dudes, and the detail is AMAZING! Yesterday I discovered some Soviet Assault Group dudes from Orion. Thanks! I just checked it out. Do you have any suggestions about where I could get Generals and Admirals for each country? I'm playing around with some ideas for Commanders, perhaps a reroll of fails on up to four land units per General on the first round of combat. The only air units that would be allowed to reroll with a General would be tactical bombers paired to tanks. Air Marshalls could reroll a certain number of planes first round, Admirals could reroll a certain number of ships first round, etc. Commanders could be captured or killed. Shapeways has a set of Commanders, but in clear plastic that would require a great deal of painting. Let me know if you have any ideas where else I could get some, and any ideas about rules for Commanders. Also any suggestions about Combat Engineer rules. Thanks a lot!

Remember they aren't allowed to move within 2 sea zones of the Continental US until they declare war so the US can attack them as soon as they get there.
after watching these vids it looks like J1 and at least a attempt of sea lion is necessary for the axis so UK can't bully Italy in Africa. I have a question can Germany come back and still win if the sea lion attempt fails? obviously anything is possible but is it likely?
You should Grasshopper that question. I'm not a fan of Sealion so I never attempt it. he's done it many times so he can tell you for sure. I would think you would really be behind the 8 ball if you committed that many resources and came out with nothing.
Sea Lion is a standard first purchase at the games I've been at (depending on what the Japanese do). With this ally strategy it would be a must to put some pressure on the Northern side of the board so that the IPC's can't be spent in Africa and the Middle-east. I really like this strategy. Would like to try it.
I miss the old days of classic, when sea lion was possible g1 :[. It was highly risky, but hilaruous to see the allies faces when I pulled it off. G40 is fun, but it is so hard to win as the axis. I have won, but it was a super struggle.
Cheers General and a big Hallo from Germany ;) Love your videos and strategies. Did. you ever thought on combining your ME strat with siredblood´s ANZAC Train? Instead of build the fac in Persia use Iraq for the brit. factory. Let Persia to ANZAC with 1 INF from Egypt and build up with 2 Nations there, to bolster India or help the Russians!? Anyone ever give that a try? Cheers 💪🏽
So Im not sure if you are violating the rules but currently the european side of britain controls iran and iraq. Iraq might be troops from egypt but isnt iran taken over by indian troops in your strategy? This would mean you would use the union jack marker and it would affect the pacific side of the economy. Most importantly, the factory would be using the pacific side of the economy. Is there any benefit to having the factory in iran controller by one or the other side of the economy? I think that an indian controlled factory would allow for the european side to put more focus on rebuilding its navy, maybe just a destroyer or sub each turn and maybe also do a few can openers for the americans in france or potentially take normandy. On the other hand, I like the idea of a european controlled factory in iran because it allows for the british to have a serious chance at retaking india if it falls.
You wouldn't believe how many times I've had to explain this to my viewers. UK Europe and UK Pacific are one nation with 2 economies. The only things they do separately is purchase and repair units, place units, and collect income. Once those units are on the board they are controlled as one nation regardless of where they are located on the board. Any territory they capture is added to the economy on that side of the board. In this case they captured Persia and Iraq which are located on the Europe side of the board. Those territories MUST be added to the UK Europe economy. Also, the factory that was placed in Persia (and any other units placed there later) MUST be placed there by the UK Europe economy. It doesn't matter at all where the troops came from that captured Persia because they all belong to the same nation. They move and fight together as one nation. I hope this helps you to understand the game better. There are so many nuances to the rules, the more a player learns about them the better they are able to take advantage of those nuances.Check out this video for more information on the UK particularly in regards to repairing damage; ruclips.net/video/I0gxQACErD8/видео.html&list=PLXHm3hvGKezhYIZehTovj3wkIJHd5Lqjf&index=6
Ok, so... what exactly is the strategy? You defend it but without 30 minutes to spare right now, what does this strategy actually consist of? What turn do you buy a naval base in persia? WHat turn do you even take Persia? With units from where? Did you also build a factory in Persia?
That’s what I prefer. When you are buying tanks and mechs, it gets you one turn away from Caucuses and Egypt, and still only two turns away from Calcutta.
I play the Russians aggressively regardless of what the axis does. The most important skill you can learn to be successful in this game is to be able to adapt to what your opponent is doing. Sealion isn't a very good strategy for the Germans to use so it plays into the allies hands if that's the route that they go. They are far better off to throw everything at the Russians.
The industrial complex is bad design about this game. It takes the realism far away and makes my eyes roll. How realistic is it building planes, tanks and infantry from Iraq. Where they getting the raw materials!?? Where's the workforce? They have to pray 5 or 6 times a day, they never get anything done. "Uuuuup, break time for prayers!" 2 hours later "Uuuuup, break time for prayers!" Its just silly. IMO, the original industrial complexes should be the only ones allowed in the game.

Combat move: Attack all available nearby ships land planes: 3 planes in Greece or S. Italy (whichever Italy doesn’t occupy), 1 battleship, 2 transport, 2 tank, 2 infantry to sz-99 off load in Syria, bombers land in Greece or W. Germany place units: Greece 1 airbase, W.
Tried that. Italy is no match for UK. I can usually take out the Italian fleet by the second turn.
with italy, i try and take trans jordan so the british fleet can't pass through the suez canal to attack my fleet.
I do it with planes, not with my boats.
ok but you better watch out for sealion
Peter Magro, just don't have the hobbits in charge of the operation. This sounds like a job for Easy Company, with support from the Big Red One.
Yeesh.... I'm gonna hafta think about this.....maybe an Axis airbase and throw the entire Luftwaffe at the transports? I dunno....I'll keep thinking.
Let me know how it turns out.
The detail isn't as good as the Airfix guys, but the Soviet Assault Engineers are wearing SN-42 body armor, so I'm gonna use them as Russia's Combat Engineers. I like to use Combat Engineers in my games because I was one waaay back in 20th century. I'll show them on my channel WarParty! At The Outpost when I get them, and explain our house rules for Engineers. Let me know where you get your dudes!
Most of them are Airfix. I'll give you a link to a site that has many different kinds of brands, the best one I've bought so far are from Pegasus. Stay away from the Airfix Russians and Japanese because they have tiny stands and fall over too easy. Here it is;

Many of the sets have commanders in them. In fact, I don't think I've gotten one that hasn't had a leader.
At 7:00 you talk about a uk bomber exchanging tech with Russia. How does that work?Is it a house rule?
Part 1 Germany turn 1-purchase: 2 bombers, 1 submarine attack: sz-91 2 submarines sz-106 2 submarines sz-110 battleship 2 bombers 3 tactical fighter 3 fighter S. France 4 mechanized infantry 1 tactical fighter 1 fighter Yugoslavia 8 infantry, 2 artillery, 3 tanks, 1 tactical fighter, 1 fighter. The remaining available troops move to France. land planes: S. Italy 2 fighters, 1 tactical fighter Holland/Belgium 2 tactical fighter, 1 fighter W. Germany 2 bombers, 2 fighters, 1 or 2 tactical (the # depends on result from sz-110 battle) non- combat: FInland 1 infantry, 1 artillery, transport sz-115 Bulgaria 2 infantry Holland/Belgium 3 AA, sz-113 cruiser, submarine sz-109. The remaining troops advance. place units: 2 bomber W. Germany, submarine sz-112. collect income: 71-1 from convoy = 70IPC Battleship remains damaged sz-110. Does UK Taranto knowing that Italy loses 0 planes? Let’s assume UK still attacks sz-98. There is a very good chance that the UK fleet will be destroyed, either by the scramble, or Germany turn 2. UK takes the destroyer and transport in sz-96. UK follows through with middle earth strategy, reinforces UK. Italy turn 1 purchase: 1 submarine combat move: sz-92 1 transport, 1 infantry ( only if German submarine survive's and 0 units are moved onto Gibraltar ) sz-93 1 cruiser, 1 destroyer, 1 submarine, 2 fighters, 1 tactical fighter, Kenya 1 infantry. land planes S. Italy non-combat: 1 tank Holland/Belgium, remaining troops advance. Place units: submarine sz-95 or 97 collect income: 4+11=15 IPC or 4+11+5=20 IPC. Germany turn 2- purchase units 1 Battleship, 2 transport, 3 bomber combat move: Greece 6 infantry, 3 tank, + any # of planes, Normandy any possible combination, if Gibraltar is axis controlled move surviving submarine to attack available targets, remove remaining ships from sz-97, monitor fleet from sz-111 and lone destroyers, attack if available. land planes: S. Italy and W. Germany. non-combat: Yugoslavia to Bulgaria, all available infantry and artillery, transport sz:115 to sz-113 Norway 2 infantry. Remaining troops advance. place units: battleship, 2 transport sz-93, 3 bomber W. Germany. collect income: 56 IPC. Conclusion part 2.
if Japan took Soviet Far East, put a naval base on it early in the game and shucked from Japan they mite be able to take Eastern U.S.A.
Remember they aren't allowed to move within 2 sea zones of the Continental US until they declare war so the US can attack them as soon as they get there.
I meant to write Western U.S.A not Eastern U.S.A.
German transport in sz100
after watching these vids it looks like J1 and at least a attempt of sea lion is necessary for the axis so UK can't bully Italy in Africa.
Let me know how it works out for you.
Not a fan of Sea Lion either.
I miss the old days of classic, when sea lion was possible g1 :[. It was highly risky, but hilaruous to see the allies faces when I pulled it off. G40 is fun, but it is so hard to win as the axis. I have won, but it was a super struggle.
Germany can take S France and build transports and come through Syria
Cheers General and a big Hallo from Germany ;) Love your videos and strategies. Did. you ever thought on combining your ME strat with siredblood´s ANZAC Train? Instead of build the fac in Persia use Iraq for the brit. factory. Let Persia to ANZAC with 1 INF from Egypt and build up with 2 Nations there, to bolster India or help the Russians!? Anyone ever give that a try? Cheers 💪🏽
Do both UK Pacific and Europe share technology?
Yes.
I hope this helps you to understand the game better. There are so many nuances to the rules, the more a player learns about them the better they are able to take advantage of those nuances.Check out this video for more information on the UK particularly in regards to repairing damage;

Defeat middle earth? How about a competent Barbarossa without building many German ships and Japan defeating India early on.
Ok, so... what exactly is the strategy? You defend it but without 30 minutes to spare right now, what does this strategy actually consist of? What turn do you buy a naval base in persia? WHat turn do you even take Persia? With units from where? Did you also build a factory in Persia?
ruclips.net/video/B4vpY_DGQJY/видео.html
is puting the complex on iraq not a beter idea?
then they whil be only 2 mowes from cairo
That’s what I prefer. When you are buying tanks and mechs, it gets you one turn away from Caucuses and Egypt, and still only two turns away from Calcutta.
Love your bord great strategy
So, floating bridge, middle earth and crazy Island are pointless against Sea Lion. Don't take my word, take the Generals word for it.:}
I play the Russians aggressively regardless of what the axis does.
Diabolik771 I adapt the game where you can only build them On country’s with a ipc of at least 3
