I love this types of videos from Two minute papers.
Quick review of new technology thats being made :)
Google: "We don't let ANYONE in for ANY reason!!!!"
TMP: "Can I come in?"
Google: "Yes, sure"
even if he didn't say that I still think its an honor to speak at google cause I don't think any reputable company lets anyone in fresh off jump street.
@@kennyo673 By all means, it's a huge honor, it was just funny that it looks like a contradiction. We can't forget his academic life, which we're not as exposed to in RUclips, which certainly contributes a big chunk to this
I have always enjoyed watching the contrails left by airplanes! Never imagined there was anything negative about them. Thanks to Two Minute Papers, I have learned something new today!
During the day they both trap heat and reflect the suns rays, which sounds like a net neutral, but during the night there's nothing to reflect so it only traps heat. It results in a net negative

Diffusion models being used in Alphafold and now a weather forecaster is fascinating. Who knew an architecture made to generate images could have such varied applications?
This is consistently the best place I've found to hear about non bias advancements in AI technology. When people say all AI does is generate meme images I can direct them here.
Also thank you for bringing forward the researchers behind these amazing papers. So often we hear of the tech without ever hearing who has spent countless hours researching them.
Finally! I started watching this channel back when most of your uploads were about 3D and/or photography, video interpolation, and similar enhacements to existing media. I was getting tired of hearing about LLMs and generative models, which I can inform myself in many other places. I understand you might want to make more people come to your channel, but this was a refreshing content.
That plane one was insane, who thinks of stuff like that??
Who would have thought that papers that don't make the rich richer don't get any publicity?
You have earned your Papers.
Google should be honoured to have you visit.
Not the other way around my friend. :)
Take care
Jeremy
So how long until this is a Skyrim weather mod? Flooding would be epic.
That was my first thought: an Nvidia Weather system included in GPUs to get super realistic simulations in games 😅
What a life to be saved alive! 🎉
Wow the contrail one really hits me; 30+ percent saved??? What a time to be alive!
The Last AI of Humanity
I have always enjoyed watching the contrails left by airplanes! Never imagined there was anything negative about them. Thanks to Two Minute Papers, I have learned something new today!🎉😊😊
What a time to be alive
To be clear contrails actually have a cooling effect during the day, but a warming effect at night
As a brazilian, my country had a very problematic flood problem recently, still having lot of things to fix.
This is very good to hear, because the place where it hit is pretty problematic geographically.
What a time to be alive!
Only use cloud data if it is when a plane has been in the area.
Now THIS is what AI should be used for!
What a time to avoid a flood!
Awesome 👏
What a time to be alive! Thank for the info! Is so awesome hear this things!
This is great!
Finally! AI stories that help humanity, instead of replacing it.
Ye, we need more of this type of development.
Do you not understand that replacing _is_ helping?
Oh no weather shamans will lose their jobs!
@@JorgetePaneteI found the guy who gets it. Thank you for being able to see reality. I hope all is well for you
@@JorgetePanete it's not helping in the short term due to the current socioeconomic structures in place that will have to change
This is all super interesting and useful
My understanding was that contrails had exactly the opposite effect, as in that they reflect the sun's energy back before it got a chance to get to the ground (Just like clouds - which shouldn't be all that surprising given they're both made from water vapour). There are a few proposals to literally create clouds to reflect light back to space as a climate control measure. When flights worldwide stopped for about 3 days after September 11th 2001, the reports at the time were that the lack of contrails caused an increase in global temperature.
For contrails to be causing 35.3% of all global warming, as suggested in the graphics in this video at 5:09, sounds unbelievably high and would 100% justify a complete ban on the use of flying as a means of transport, since it would have far more benefit than literally all of humanity never using cars again (Cars are around 10% of the CO2 for a developed country, and developed countries are punching so far above their weight on pollution that the effects of less developed countries can probably be ignored in this analysis).
That's actually an interesting point - just asked the AI and as usual it's complicated: High-altitude, thin clouds tend to have a net warming effect. They allow a significant amount of sunlight to pass through during the day, but trap outgoing infrared radiation from the Earth's surface at night, acting like a blanket.
I don't think the graphic at 5:09 suggests that at all. What I'm pretty sure it's saying is that of the X% of global warming caused by commercial air traffic 35.3% of that X is the result of contrails.
@@vazacaks7597 That makes more sense 🙂.
Still feels like some weird way of justifying flying: "yeea, I burned a lot of fuel, but hey, there were x% less contrails than on flights of other planes!"
at 2:27 the figure he points at looks like not very significantly different. the paper is behind a paywall so can't see details. but seems like it's precision is not much higher than current models?
Hello internet
Hello fellow human. What nice Oxygen we have today, huh.
Hi interwebs
Last I heard they didn't know if it was net-negative or net-positive with regards to heating - contrails... Seems now like they know it holds in more than it reflects. The theory used to be that contrails could act as both 'blanket' and 'reflector'. Now, if still true to some degree, it may be conceivable that at some times of day or latitudes, it would be a net positive to actually have contrails?
2:30 The sheer compactness of the globe never ceases to amaze me, to the point that north or South America might have been Atlantis
A sphere is literally the most compact 3D shape.
(Yes yes, I know, the Earth is an oblate spheroid).
Real.
The Two Minute Papers channel on RUclips covers research papers in computer graphics and related fields, so it's focused on real scientific research, not simulation.
Your New Video "OpenAI's ChatGPT: Can We Control It" is gone, and I can't watch it anymore :(
I guess I will have to wait until it is ready :)
Came here to see if anyone commented about it. Has me very curious now. Maybe he showed some sort of exploit technique that he shouldn't have or something, idk. We'll have to wait and see!
Wait... What happened to the newest video about controlling AI? 😬
I seen that as well, just came to watch it but now it’s gone.
@@facts9144 Yes. Very strange.
I started to watch it.
Then i pausen andtook a short walk with the dog.
When i tried to watch it again it was gone 😬
From "dear fellow scholars" to "what a time to be alive" (1:06 to 7:11) an average of 2 minutes and 2 seconds is spent on each paper.
Károly, just to help you, you meant "confused with" (cirrus) not "by".
They need to gzip your name
The IA that predicts the contrails is amazing, hope it will soon become mandatory.
❤
Give me Tree Diagram already. Just don't shoot it down.
why does he sound like he puts a period every 3 words
CO2 stat in the atmosphere for centuries and 0.3% is not a small number. I really doubt the net effect is positive, maybe in the short term but after centuries?
Save lives!? Isn't AI supposed to kill us all? Can it kill at least some?
Hhhh
One wrote about finally ai stories about helping humans instead of replac9mg them.
The irony that google itself fored around 100 lately.
So, ya are basing the pretraining from looking information like image and other stuff, but those are group training, not individual training, only each individual need to be understood and perfect, then group it as experience it, which is connect the dot in mind, so mentally and physical connect dot work well, so AI doesn't need to learn from group, but individual, so will connect the whole as group, so the bigger the individual, the bigger the group or group density. So, no hallacination, as children do hallacination since doesn't understand the individual is base on image, not reality, so not definity as whole as perfect which is full understood. Perfect come from understanding each individual and how each interact, even there is no mention of statement or thought from humans, so new idea, like a car is invent base on each individual that is steel, fire, electricity, lighth, etc, into a car so an idea. So, AI can create as different interact into that group.
So, for now, it's assume human's learning process is superior to AI, so AI need to improve so AI is flexible as humans by statement or action, or whatever.

hello Google!!!!!!!!!
Why does your impact assessment of aircraft travel not include water vapor, which is ~100x as potent as CO2 as a GHG?
That's the entire "contrail" thing, pay attention.
@@vidyagaems4063 No it isn't. Water vapor traps a tremendous amount of heat whether it forms a cloud or not. Go back to sophomore physical chemistry, dufus.
Just a kind reminder that you are the CO2 they want to eliminate.

Holy moley YOU ARE GORGEOUS! GAY GUY LEVEL GORGEOUS! I finally googled your unspellable name from that door sign! Disney CGI guy here.
Doctor, only a few million across the globe are getting behind these very papers.
But not only just that, people are barely behind the very softwares of their own technologies to go about pushing papers even further beyond Seconds Per Frame.
Real-time WEB 3.0 at its fullest and we are way behind. 2030 is six years away and humanity is at the brink this year.
We need to compress WEB 2.0 and 1.0 as we are on behind the source codes of every software that we own.
We need to stop consuming hardware and start consuming software.
Claiming that increasing fuel consumption by 0.03% is worth it to “save the planet” is an absurd argument.
I think he meant "help save". As for the 0.03% increase. Burning that amount extra, which, although sends CO2 into the atmosphere and "helps" warms the planet, doesn't warm it as much as creating contrails. I think the contrails act as a kind of dense blanket and is even more warming than what it takes to disperse CO2 by flying at that altitude
It's comparing pros and cons.
+0.03% more fuel and 50% less contrails or 0% more fuel and 50% more contrails.
Altough i suppose it's a stimate, reducing something in half to something that is repeated many times a day it's very impactful, i would question if it's 10% or more and even with that it wouldn't look bad, nevertheless, it's a 0,03%.
Also, remember this is the worst it'll be, this means in a future we could have less fuel and less contrails.
oh boy... here we go with the "save the planet" propaganda...
I hope AI will help him fix his speech impediment.
NPC be like "What a time to be alive! Surely this tech will benefit me and will be available to the public FOR FREE and not as a SAAS right?? Definitely it won't increase the wealth gap even more when rich people start to pay big to have exclusive tech!"
SD is already free and available to the public, for one.
For two, the overall wealth of the world increases, it's not a limited resource, so the gap is irrelevant, the only thing worth focusing on is the bottom line. We are exponentially better than 50 years ago, which was exponentially better than 100 years ago.
A paper can only save life if it's used to write a meaningful message on it or used to produce fire
???? do we really need to start advetising chemtrails..... so they are totally accepted....?

That's a shame. You missed out on the bit that mentions how AI discovered that tornadoes are caused by UFO's parking above storm cells, using the storm's energy to recharge.
