      @@kukuc96nah it’s mainly because the car cost millions to build and was worth even more with its history. Plus his life was on the line.

      @@theyellowpepper9951 It depends on the racing format. F1 used "manually activated" (so to speak) KERS when the system was introduced, nowadays it is automatic as well and the ECU takes care of deciding when to spend the energy, except for the override "overtake" button which depletes the ERS. If I remember correctly, ERS setting and engine maps got banned in 2020 or 2021, once the car leaves the pits it's stuck in whichever power mode it got sent out on. I'm not exactly sure how Hypercars use their electric motors tho

      I feel like given a few slower runs I could start pushing it. But not this much. I know I have a lot of precision driving skill at 100's of mph irl. But this takes absolute confidence. You second guess yourself you could die. Unfortunately that means unless I do it hundreds of times as if I'm just driving to and from work, I would probably not achieve this. And the g forces to the side could be a stroke risk. So there's a lot of prep and gear that would be required to beat this.

    6:30 fun fact: the driver said in later interviews that he probably could have gone faster with more trys. If i remember correctly it was his 2nd or 3rd lap with the real car on the real track. Befor this he drove the car only in simulations. He also was on "old" tires (2 or 3 laps old but past their peak performance).
    This car was also pretty much only built because porsche had build the chassis for le mans but decided to pull out of the lmp classes so they had the base car and no limitations from rule sets for racing classes. With that opportunity the engeneers said let's build a car to demonstrate what this technology is actually capable of

    Fun fact, the car was limited by the driver. Timo Bernhard, I believe, experienced g forces of an average of 2.4, peaking at around 5g. Timo said he blacked out on another record attempt, because of the insane downforce, acceleration and braking this car has. It’s true potential isn’t humanly survivable. And if you want to have to full potential of the car without dying you have to drive it in a simulator
    Edit: I also want to add that I believe that a sub 4:40 is totally possible without human limits, and has allready been achieved in simulators quite often. The very very skilled Timo Bernhard is the limit, and it isn’t even his driving skills. This car is crazy

    The boost is because the 919 was a hybrid. The class of car was called LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype 1). They had a engine along with an hybrid component. The battery for the Hybrid was charged using a KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). Essentially, when braking the battery recharged, and the Porsche also recovered some from the engine on straightaways. The hybrid then got deployed using a computer in the car that deployed it at certain pre-determined parts of the track. Mostly at the beginning of straights. You can think of the hybrid as a bit of a boost button. These cars were so fast that they essentially were F1 cars at one point. The car in this video is the "EVO" version which is essentially the same thing but without all the rules and restrictions that the LMP1 had so this is effectively faster than what was actually raced before LMP1 was axed as a class in the WEC.

    • @Vitosi4ek1
      @Vitosi4ek1 8 месяцев назад +45

      The Evo was legitimately faster than an F1 car when it did the lap of Spa (the only place where the two could be compared directly). Without the LMP1 restrictions it has a much more powerful hybrid boost than an F1 car and a lot more downforce (open wheels are a big detriment to F1 aero, and it can only be mitigated by clever engineering to an extent). It's absolutely THE fastest race car to ever exist, and it won't be beaten anytime soon because the circumstances that allowed this project to happen are very unique.

    • @maxb148
      @maxb148 8 месяцев назад +42

      @@Vitosi4ek1Actually it was beaten at Spa in 2018 by Vettel in Q2 of qualifying and then again in 2020 with the W11. It is still going to be the fastest at Nurburgring for a long time because an F1 car would not work at the Nurburgring. The problem with the 919 is that F1 cars are just way too quick in the corners because it beats them in the straights amd out of the corners due to the 4 wheel drive (even the regular LMP1 cars were faster out of corners than F1 cars). If you could somehow find a way to reduce the drag of an F1 while keeping the aero and downforce or the other way round for the 919 Evo it would be the fastest car.
