My dad, who is a lifelong Mercedes and Jaguar fan, rented one of these in 2008, and his takeaway was quite positive. He commented on how seamlessly everything in it worked and how it just *did* everything that was asked of it with no fuss or quirkiness, and how it had no squeaks or rattles, etc.
My brother had two DTS. A white one and a red one like in the video. Beautiful ride and looks elegant and pure Cadillac. Shame they discontinued both in 2011. The XTS was a nice replacement but should have kept the DTS moniker but even it was discontinued a few years ago.
The Performance is the loaded one, auto wipers, auto high beams, messaging seats, rear seat lumbar, power tilt and telescoping wheel, magnaride suspension and the sporty transmission, I had a 06 and it was WONDERFUL
After years someone finally posted a full detail review of this car! Thank you for this post!! I don’t own caddy’s anymore but I still Have a spot in my heart for them
Being a tall couple, my Wife and I purchased a 2006 Cadillac DTS. I can say that it's the right car for us (Being my 3rd Cadillac, and my Wife's 1st Cadillac); it's very roomy and comfortable, it's like flying a Boeing 777. It's got size and power, and a very ingenious front wheel drive design; and an excellent daily driver. When my Wife and I will grow old, we'll still ride in our Classic 2006 Cadillac DTS. By the way mine is Sapphire Blue (GM: Blue Chip).
Beautiful that color is the sapphire blue! Keep that car maintained and cared for and it will in return take care of you. I have a 2005 Deville DHS myself and has been absolutely trouble-free for about 9 years now of owning it. My parents recently got a 2007 DTS black and again has been wonderful.
@@starxlr7863 Thank you, friend. I agree with you; you take care of the car, and in return it takes care of you. What I also like about it is that it has the redesigned Northstar (With The LS6 Headbolts -Won't Have Headbolt Trouble, BH-); my wife and I love riding in our Caddy. I'm glad you're enjoying you DHS, and that it's been good to you; I hope your parents enjoy their DTS.
From the same era, Lexus LS430 or DTS for better ride, style, and luxurious amenities? LS430 has much more gizmos at the time, auto-closing doors, keyless entry and start, and back seat shades.
The LS has an unreliable subwoofer, undependable audio amplifier, flaky radio screen, (slightly) less attractive appearance overall, requires expensive timing belt services regularly, and costs considerably more for a comparatively older and higher-mileage example on the used market. On the other hand, it is faster off the line than any DTS and is rear-wheel-drive with superior suspension, so, weigh your priorities.
@Browningate you have forgot to mention that Lexus LS430 in 2006 had 6 speed automatic while Cadillac had the ancient 4 speed automatic transmission. Also, you can still see Lexus LS430 on the road and still hold an excellent value. While Cadillac known to depreciate quickly due to its problems and high maintenance. Your argument it is not valid at all.
@@ubiased23 Is it though? I couldn't tell you the last time I've seen an LS430 actually on the road or for sale within an hour's drive of my location, but yet there are DTSs rolling around town (granted, some of them in quite bad condition, but still) at a rate of 1 every 1-3 days. Consistently. And we're talking about 20-year old cars, so they're both well past depreciated, and aren't going to be ultra-low-maintenance anymore. So, yes, my "weigh your priorities" [and pick whichever makes the most sense to you] argument very much stands.
@@ubiased23 What is wrong with having less speeds for the transmission? The 4 speed automatic found in the Cadillacs really are quite good and very smooth shifting. Having more speeds just adds for more issues. I know someone that had one of the Lexus LS430 sedan like you're referring to and instead went with a Cadillac DTS.
Totally agree. The 4T80 is by far one of the best heavy duty transmissions around. I've been in some newer vehicles with multiple speeds and it's so weird to me.
The exterior looks lovely. However the interior looks cheap. Especially the dash. It looked like they stretched out the w-body Impala dash, or the Buick LuCerne of that era.
Agree - Cadillac interiors from this era looked horribly cheap and borderline laughable compared to the Germans and Japanese of the time - I think the 2007 Escalade was the first Caddy to finally have an interior befitting a modern luxury vehicle, then the 2008 CTS soon after.
I think the DTS/Lucerne were a cut above the Impala in actual build quality despite the visual similarity. I'm guessing they were trying to throw the aging top line Chevy a bone by giving it a similar looking interior but I think it just cheapens the Caddy/Buick by association.
Too much negativity about any of the Cadillac engines and most is nonsense. The Northstar engines do indeed last a long time when properly maintained and cared for. The same goes for any other engine. I have a 2003 Deville with almost 210k and a 1993 Allante approaching 152k and both cars needed only normal maintenance and nothing more.
@unbiased23: That's probably the only one they had that would fit. Plus it had been proven to be a reliable unit as it was moving hearses and stretch limos around with no problems whatsoever. Just change the fluid every 50k or so and it'll last the life of the car.
I had a 2007 for a short amount of time. This car sucks. Its boring, its ugly, it feels like a toyota avalon inside, and it feels claustrophobic when you consider ANY Cadillac that came before it. Its the bare minimum that can be considered a Cadillac, and will always be more of one than the CTS or any of the alphabet soup garbage that came after it. Don't waste your time on this thing, get a 2000-2005 deville instead if its your first cadillac.
Totally disagree. Although this car isnt for everybody, ive had 7 of them. They are absolutely NOT ugly at all by any means. This was a well refreshed version of the ugly bug eyed Deville that came before it. Was pleased to see the 2006 refresh and so were thousands of other Cadillac owners as well....this more of a Cadillac and brings to mind the the cadillacs of the past with its own unique elegance.
An absolute LEMON, endless leaks, gasket issues & the Northstar is the worst engine ever built. Interior was to plastic, lacked the quality of imports.

Did any have the front bench seat and column shifter?
@42luke93 yea he had the front split bucket seats and the column shifter

That’s one of the best things about DTS and why I would want one over a new CTS.

A full-size American car that competed with the Lexus LS, Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

I got a 2005 deville here ! Texas. Cool

I have never heard a good thing about Northstar engines for longevity, never.
I’ve seen plenty of these on auto trader with 175,000+ miles
The ones from 2006 and on had a different head bolt design and last well if they’re maintained

5200rpm.... so all the complexity, cost, and unreliability of a DOHC engine w/ none of the benefits.
I think he misspoke. It's 6500rpm on these N* engines
4 speed automatic transmission in 2006? GM was definitely behind against the competition.
What is wrong with the 4 speed trans?
@starxlr7863 not enough gears. The competition, such as lexus and other car manufacturers, has 6 speed automatic.
@@ubiased23 they need it they have no power
@@ubiased23 I much prefer less gears. Four gears is the ideal number and why I picked Cadillac over the others with more gears.
