Not only in Greek mythology but also Scottish (kelpie) and Buddhist I believe but I know nothing about eastern culture. Anyways these have hypnotic vocals beautifully representing "the song of the siren"

Now that I think about it, giving the fact sirens are from greek mythology and the hippocampus as well, it makes sense that they were the inspiration. Maybe they also just gave horses fish tales because sirens are often shown as mermaids and didn't wanted to base them off water horses.
