I've posted this before, but since this topic is about Fuhrman I'll post it again.... I was married to a vegan for 15 years. During that time I saw my weight go from 180 to 254 only eating salads, rice, pasta, beans, legumes, wholegrain bread, and fruit. My blood pressure was 170/145 and I was prediabetic. Finally at 70 years old when I got divorced, my doc at the VA told me to either change my lifestyle or I'd probably be dead in 4 years. I went keto in 2020 and carnivore in 2022. Today I'm 75. I weigh 165. My blood pressure is 126/62, I'm no longer prediabetic, and no longer have any other health issues. I'm living proof keto and carnivore work.

I starved myself fat and sick on 1200 low fat, high fibre calories a day for decades. Had an active job. Went to the gym daily. Barely fit a Canadian size 18. That was on the semi vegan death diet called the food pyramid.
Then my husband had 3 strokes and we found out he was diabetic. 180 pounds.
I put him on the diet they gave me at the hospital. Every 3 weeks he had bloodwork. Always worse, as was he. This went on for 8 months. By then his weight increased to 210 pounds.
It hit me that the diet that had failed me was failing him. Started looking.
I switched both of us to the old 1950s British diet in the prologue of Good Calories, Bad Calories. Mostly animal protein based. Removed seed oils.
His next bloodwork improved and kept getting better. Several months later a stranger understood him. His weight returned to 180 pounds.
I dropped to a 6/8 over time. No starvation involved. Healed the degenerative bone disease in my right foot. Lowered my bloodpressure. Took 10 years, but my morning body temperature went from 94 to 98.6 my eyebrows came back. Hair thickened. My forehead is not as high. I am in my late 60s.

I can change my lipid profile, by changing my diet, or fasting for 3 days. That shows that your lipids are controlled by your genes, and have nothing to do with being bad. My LDL went up when I started a carnivore diet, but now they've gone back down, as my body adjusted to using fat. Your genes do exactly what they are supposed to at any given time or enviroment. After 4 and 1/2 years, I'm not the least bit concerned about my lipid profile, or want the blood test.

Ok, Dr Furhman used to be my Dr when i lived in NJ, maybe 25 years ago. I got Hyperthyroid autoimmune disease and he put me on a 21 day water only fast, it worked, never had to take a single drug. He even operated a fasting clinic at the time. So i followed his diet afterward, being mostly Vegetarian, but over time never felt great, headaches and weight flucuations, i had terrible numbers and over time started eating meat again. So i learned to use fasting as weight control method for the next 25 years, but still eating too many processed foods did me in. So i got another autoimmune condition called PMR which really did me in. I could barely walk because of the pain. Found Eric on RUclips, signed up for his education course, and the Vegan unlearning begain. It's hard to unlearn stuff that you believed for so long, then you get mad you were lied to. I'm better now, eat mostly carnivore, no sugar, lost 42 lbs, with no effort, crazy. I feel so good, and have the numbers to prove it. I'm 70 and can't believe i was able to unlearn the Standard American Dr lies out there. God Bless.

I’ve tried so many times to go vegetarian and felt like such a failure when I started feeling bad as if I wasn’t “doing it right.” I’m swinging to the other side and more meat based now. However, keto just about did me in energy wise. I’m finding the balance with meat, fruit, and veg, with very little grain (if any) and low low dairy- cheese is especially problematic as it just piles on the fat on me. Thanks again! I’m 56 female and working on strength, energy, and trimming up! Weight loss or not.

"circular arguments," that's the key to understanding how people would like to impose their beliefs on others and get angry with those who don't take their sides. Always defensive and driven to tantrums when debated. This is my observation of people who utilize "circular arguments" but go nowhere in trying to convince others. This applies to pseudo medical or scientists, or religious nuts. This "circular argument" is typically employed by those who want to be first, who want to be acknowledged. Listen to Terence Howard. Same circular argument. Listen to cult leaders or wannabes. Same circular argument.

The only traditional (and I include agricultural) cultures where meat is not eaten by choice are where religious taboos control what people are permitted to eat. Early people were hunter-gatherers. Fruits and vegetables as we know them are a product of hybridization and did not exist. The availability of adequate quantities of wild plant foods year round would have been inadequate to keep them alive.

What's more, he gave zero evidence for his position. I read his book, Eat To Live, years ago and tried his vegetarian diet. It didn't hurt me, because thankfully I was able then to handle any diet, but it didn't help me either. Now I feel good only eating keto. I consider his being fast and loose with the evidence to be dishonest and unprofessional. My own education was going on in that year and when I got the results, I made the switch to 20 carb or less keto. 9 months later ALL meds were gone bp was normal, fatty liver was gone, A1C was 5.3 (no meds) and very important to me the ejection fraction had gone up to 48%. I am now 8 years post surgery and feel fine. 77 years old, active, still working 4 hours per day in a school kitchen, take a couple of supplements and have been mostly carnivore for 4-5 years now. Nina Teicholz writes 'Genghis Khan was able to build a vast empire in large part because his Mongol warriors' “consumed a steady diet of meat, milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, and they fought men who lived on gruel made from various grains,” wrote former anthropology professor Jack Weatherford in a 2004 book. “The grain diet of the peasant warriors stunted their bones, rotted their teeth, and left them weak and prone to disease. In contrast, the poorest Mongol soldier ate mostly protein, thereby giving him strong teeth and bones.”

The Mongol warios were nomads, they travelled miles on a horseback without eating, drinking or going to the toilet, days and night without a break, in any kind of weather. So when they camped they had only meat from what their hunters killed and water. Food and fast helped them to ride long distances and stay strong, but they hadn't won because of this and because the others ate carbs, but because they were goal oriented, better trained, they were warriors and they were a team, whereas the tribes they attacked were not very interested in fighting, more in farming and they were quarrelled with other tribes, so no one cared to come and help. And at the end they were besieged as soon as the tribes understood that they had to unite their forces - some hundreds of years later, but they won.

Paul Saladino is NOT a “founder” of the carnivore diet. People have been eating carnivore since the beginning of time. It was Dr. Shawn Baker who kind of “reintroduced” the carnivore concept, and he started practicing the carnivore diet a while back, then researched and wrote about eating carnivore, and from what I’ve learned, Baker is the one who coined the term “Carnivore”. Then you have people like Kelly Hogan, her doctor, Dr. Dunlap, suggested she go meat-based over a decade ago, and she’s been talking about her carnivore journey for years. And, there are many other people like Dr Atkins, who promoted eating more meat decades ago, and more recently doctors like Chaffee and Berry who have found major positive health results from eating carnivore themselves and for their patients, around the same time or way before Saladino came along.

N of 1 - started low carb in October 2021 when diagnosed with diabetes; 3 months later I had remitted my diabetes. Now tending more towards carnivore. I am now metabolically healthy and back to my proper weight before I had children in the mid 1980s. Most incredible and unexpected change (I had no idea that this was possible): my hair is going back to its original colour; even my boss has noticed the difference. I didn't know if low carb would work but after reading lots and lots of comments on YT videos I decided to try it for 3 months. It's now been over 2.5 years. I'm now 66 years old.

@dyldabeast9176 It's sad that our health and quality of life could have been so much better for more of our life if we hadn't been misinformed. I love hearing about older people changing their diet and improving their health and it's really nice to see younger people improving their diet and finding out early on how eating proper food can make a difference. Since going low carb and learning why people get a big belly, I find that I notice this when out and about. It's sad when you see a family with children in their early teens and younger and all of the family are rotund and puffy; it makes me wonder what their quality of life will be; possibly T2 by the age of 20. I have a photo of my face that I took about 1 month before changing my diet (I had cut my own hair due to lockdown; it's a horrible pic but I'm now really glad that I have it) and my face was puffy and grey (I was 80kg then, now 58kg, only 5' tall). I have another photo taken 1 month after starting low carb I can see some change in the way I looked; I didn't look puffy and looked so much healthier, and of course by sticking with it things just kept improving. There were times when I would see my reflection and have a (nice) shock to realise that it was me; it took quite a while for me to actually "feel" slim; even though I had lost weight (and I didn't used to look in the mirror) my brain still thought I was fat and considering I had been overweight for so long, that is really not surprising. Now compared with a lot of people I actually feel very trim. I wish you the best.

So I cheat on my carnivore a bit but since I’m doing it for weight loss and not allergy related reasons I think it’s ok. I started carnivore and immediately saw weight loss/fat loss and that was very motivating. Then about a month to two months in I found my knees and hips were really inflamed and painful. I’m a big believer in listening to your body so I fasted for two days and listened to my cravings when I started eating again. For some reason I was seriously craving some kraut funkiness so I had some, waited an hour, and fully broke my fast with some buttered eggs. If I have a pain flare, I add back some low oxalate food for a day or two which slows the dumping. I had fibromyalgia, knee pain, and bladder pain from eating a high oxalate diet. Interesting point I would like to pose to Dr. Furman. The medical system has been heavily advocating for a low fat, low cholesterol, plant based diet since the 80s. These, and subsequent guidelines were all based on the same "research" I would imagine. Are the current rates of diabetes and heart disease in line with what these recommendations were supposed to achieve? If not, why? And why should we not try something diametrically opposed to those guidelines if we want the opposite results from what we are seeing in the world population. Remember that actual results are better than guesses. Worst case is we will end up with the same heart disease as following current guidelines. What about DR TC Campbell's studies of turning cancer on and off by changing the amount of protein eaten.

    • @lindabirmingham603
      @lindabirmingham603 4 месяца назад

I would love to see a debate with Dr Campbell and Dr Chaffee.
Dr Thomas Seyfried from Boston University has a research lab and clinic where he uses carbohydrate restriction in combination with pulsed therapy reducing glutamine to starve cancer cells as cancer can't live with out these 2 fuels. He says instead of poisoning the body to try to kill all the cancer cells (which rarely works anyway) to starve them so they can't grow and the body's immune system keeps them in check.
When I was a Pathologists' Assistant, I could always find areas of prostate cancer in a gland when doing an autopsy on an older man. (Most pathologists and path assistants don't look that closely unless it is documented that the patient had prostate cancer. The cancer is hard to see in the gland as the gland is about the same color as the tumor. My point is that we have cancer cells all the time, but if your innate immune system is working as it is designed and you don't feed it by constantly jacking up the blood glucose throughout the day, the body keeps it in check.
When I asked a holistic doctor ( Christianne Northrup) at a conference about Dr Campbell, she said "If you look at him, he looks like a skinny frail old man" and didn't recommend his low protein diet. This was almost 20 years ago...

my body debunked the vegan diet. I don't care who eats what. I care that people tell others that there's is the only one right diet. There is not!!!! we are not all the same. I can't eat nearly the amount of nuts my husband eats. I can't eat the amount of bread he eats. I can't drink beer. I can't drink the amount of coffee my brother drinks. I can't eat oranges. I don't absorb plant iron well. I can eat more fat than my husband. He can't eat fried foods, in polyunsaturated oil...I can (not that I like to, but I can digest them, he throws up anything cooked in 'seed oil' (too polyunsaturated) but he can eat the same foods fried in butter!).
My son can't a lot of fat. He gets diarrhoea if his fat goes above about 30% of his diet. I can. I love fat. I can eat 70 percent fat in my diet and feel great. I do well on lots of protein as well. I felt GREAT on keto. If your blood tests are fine and your body feels good and you poop well that's a good diet for you. I don't do well on a vegan diet. I have a friend is a healthy vegan. I have a pescatarian bean and legume eating sister in law who is overweight and always got health issues, hair falling, skin problems... everyone should just stop with the tribalism and chill out. I wouldn't go carnivore but I can assume if it's not good for someone they will stop eating it but it's not my business and nor do I make money from telling people how to eat!!!!

I follow a keto diet, and do enjoy a robust vegetable diet, with greens, low or no carb veggies. Humans did evolve consuming, greens, medicinal plants, mushrooms, and foraged plants. Plenty of vitamins and minerals are present. I think carnivore and keto consumers who don’t include a diverse plant diet are missing a great deal of phytonutrients. Keto does not mean plants are not included in the proper human diet. I don’t see keto/carnivore in opposition to consuming select plants and a rare piece of fruit as a treat.

*THIS IS THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.* For more than 200,000 generations humanoids were hyper carnivores and apex predators. They evolved with a stomach PH of 2 (highly acidic), eyes facing forward in the skull like all carnivores, and sharp, pointy canine teeth. They became so proficient at killing they drove most large land mammals like the Mastodon and Wolly Mammoth into extinction about 12,000 years ago. It was only after this happened that humans ever ate a vegetable to keep from starving to death. Humans began farming about 600 generations ago. Processed foods have only been around for 20 generations, and vegetable oils have only been around for 10 generations. For 3 million years humans never ate carbohydrates at all except a few berries in the Spring and Fall. 300,000 years ago there was 9 species of humanoids living on Earth. 30,000 years ago there were only 3. In order to determine the proper human diet one must figure out what man has eaten for his entire existence, and fatty red meat was a large part of it. Maybe in another 10,000 generations humans will evolve to utilize carbohydrates, processed foods, and vegetable oils but right now they can't.

I have spent a good part of my life as a consultant to companies trying to introduce new technology and ideas. One rule I have developed for myself when dealing with dogmatic experts who say it can't be done is to point out the amazing flexibility of the academic mind once presented with an irrefutable truth. Things that were ridiculed as crazy scientific ideas twenty or thirty years ago are now in textbooks like they knew it all along. Keto and Carnivore are making the people selling a plant-based agenda nervous, so we get this kind of arrogant, fast-talking, brash, aggressive push back but give it another 10 or 15 years, and they will be talking about it like everybody knew it was good all along and this guy will be forgotten. Sadly I see zealots like this who don't seem to really care if you are healthy because you are acceptable collateral damage to their narrative.

Scurvy only takes a few weeks to manifest. There is enough vitamin C in meat to meet the body's needs if you aren't eating carbs. Glucose and vitamin C complete for the same Glut4 transporter to get into cells. The body gives glucose priority as it wants to get the glucose back to the fasting level ASAP.

We really should have more long term /cohort studies on keto diets. A correction, Dr. Westman, the keto diet has been around for over 50 years. I ran weight loss studies using "protein sparing modified fasts" in the 1970s at a research/teaching hospital. People were delighted. It worked. We monitored electrolytes, mood, and heart health. No problems. It was stopped by administrators for some reason. So, it's time. If there is a higher cholesterol norm for keto diet followers, then if nothing else that's big news refuting or, I really doubt it, validating the cholesterol hypothesis.

The blue zone study neglects to mention that the people in those regions eat pork, chicken, fish, goat, and lamb. Many of these studies rely on food recall; counting a hamburger with fries as "meat". I'm ketovore (beef, egg, cheese, and romaine lettuce) for two years now, and I feel great with excellent lab results. IGF-1 and growth hormone has never been shown to cause cancer, or worsen cancer. People with gigantism and acromegaly have the exact same rates of cancer as the rest of the population. Additionally, the lower your IGF-1, the faster you age, so allowing you body to run at a more physiologically normal level is not harmful, it's beneficial.
