    Honestly can't believe I'm watching and learning this for free, this is so valuable for people who are into production, mixing and mastering. I've said this before in a comment but it is truly amazing the work you put into making these videos for people to learn. Also very humble by the artist to give out the stems for people to practice. Everything in this video truly made my day. Keep up the good work!👏

      Same here. lol when I get to, say, Mea Culpa (Deadbeat mix) FINAL 17? This one isn’t hypothetical, either. Occasionally, I will add a word that helps identify the main edit. It can help to see the exports at certain places of development, kinda like a timeline.

I mean I understand you level of knowledge,ok you have less equipment but still you can make good quality up to a client's market point! Because you purely can not satisfy the big clientele !you have family and you need to manage more your well time spent 😅

    Like countless other people I wanna join in and thank you for all the videos! It's especially awesome that these lessons apply to pretty much any genre one is producing (I'm mostly doing spacey ambient music, sometimes even electronic rock). Although loudness and compression specifics is a bit different in those genres, the basic ideas are same.
    In a matter of days my mixes and masters have become way more clear and juicy, thanks to your vids! (tho in my case it's often been "putting out fires" as my source files and sounds can be from years ago and are crappy quality, so I'm not dealing with subtleties but rather major ugly frequencies lol)

    Wait so if the track loudness is reaching -6 LUFS and spotify limits down to -14 LUFS isnt it going to sound very different when streaming? What exactly happens to parts of the song that are way above -14 lufs when streaming on spotify ?!

    • @inthemix
      @inthemix  3 года назад +4

      Spotify doesn’t limit down to -14. Only on some playback systems where the user has selected loudness compensation will some gain reduction be applied. On most systems I tested, this plays back at the full loudness on Spotify.

    This is a super great video but it has left me with so many questions because it's such a different approach to mastering from the last video
    Firstly, if the bass is the problem, shouldn't we reduce it during the mixing process? essentially reducing the bass means changing the frequency content of the song, which is as far as I know something you need to do during the mixing process, and even tho it might be something you can fix, do you really want to change the mixing engineer's vision of the mix? (as for changing the frequency content he was aiming for)
    Second, can't you just link the bass to another channel and add it after the compression? so that the bass won't be a part of the compression and that it'll only affect the instruments.
    Maybe you can use a separate compressor on the sub as well, but considering the fact that usually, the sub-area is consistent, why would it be a problem to the whole mix? it's essentially like adding a consistent signal to the mix, not including the kick.
    Lastly and it's about the limiter itself, I've seen loud tracks that have a ton of bass, while still sounding clear, there has to be a way to achieve it without sacrificing reducing the bass level (and no the tracks were not distorted), maybe they've used just a better and a more transparent compressor, or limiter?
    Despite all of these points, I do know that usually Synthwave tracks like yours tend to have less bass, so it might be the reason why you did that, and if it is it makes total sense, and it was super informative to see that approach to mastering.
    Every walkthrough you make brings in something new to learn, so keep doing these, it's awesome :)

    Good LORD that is crunched to hell and back. I can see why you keep sprinkling disclaimers throughout the video. This is *definitely* not the mastering you wanna do for every track, but only if you're after a very specific sound. That's impressive. I feel that it loses a lot of dynamics, but it is very "present", which is cool. Good job, mate!

    I have a question, what's the reference file format(quality, bitrate etc) and from where do you source it? Are the levels of the reference track before uploading or after uploading to streaming platforms? Now a days, it's harder to get a high quality reference tracks. And the low quality references are just useless in terms of mastering.

    Hey! Awesome video thank you so much for making these step by step vids! I was wondering if you could just use the same limiter twice? Does that work? I have ozone elements and I was wondering if I could just add that twice and use the maximizer in there twice cuz I see you're using a limiter and a maximizer and I don't really understand the difference. Why not just use the same twice? Thanks in advance!
