    Excellent.
    I've watched it several times before I felt confident and comfortable enough to execute my own. I had purchased a pattern where the garment had an inseam pocket and invisible zipper in the same seam. However, its instruction were less than clear, down right awful. Leaving me on the cusp of giving up and not installing the pocket. But after watching your tutorial I was extremely excited by my success. Thank you.

      Excellent! Sewing pattern instructions can be so hit and miss with how much information they provide on a step, and it can leave you feeling so frustrated. I'm glad you found my video to help and I hope the rest of your garment comes together as successfully!

    This the best tutorial I found on RUclips. I see that you’re using an invisible zipper. Would the same technique apply for a metal zipper? I have a ton of those from passed relatives.

    • @elfiesew
      @elfiesew  2 месяца назад

      You need an invisible zipper for the zipper teeth to disappear from view. If you have regular none invisible zips you could use it but you’ll likely see the zip, however this can still create a really neat, clean finish if you don’t mind the little join of metal on your garment.

    This is really useful. I live alone so back zippers are a no-go, so I do side zips instead and I really didn't want to give up my pockets.
    May I ask why we double stitch the zipper however? Is it just to reinforce it?

    • @elfiesew
      @elfiesew  Год назад

      I find that anchoring the zipper with the first row of stitches means on the second row i can focus on getting my stitch line as close to my teeth as possible without adjusting the placement of my zipper. You can skip this step if you are happy to go straight in.

    Thanks for this tutorial, now I feel more confident about trying this technique. What if the top part of the pocket is attached to the waist (in a dress)? will it change anything ?

    • @elfiesew
      @elfiesew  2 года назад +2

      If your pocket is anchored at the waist seam, the construction won't differ too much. All you will need to change is when you attach the second pocket bag piece, instead of sewing a full circle around the edge of your pocket, you will sew from the bottom corner of the box you make up to top edge of the pocket. You will then sew a second line in the seam allowance above the pocket up to the waist seam, to close it in your side seam. You should then be able to carry on as your pattern instructions say catching the top of the pocket in your waist seam. The zip would then go in as shown here. Good luck with your first attempt!

    How would you do this with a lining on a skirt?

    • @elfiesew
      @elfiesew  9 месяцев назад

      Sew the outer layer as shown here, and then sew the lining layer separately leaving the side seam open where the zipper will be. Join the layers as your garment requires (usually at the waistband for a skirt), and then hand stitch the lining around the zipper on the inside of the garment to complete.
