Those old air cooled Deutz mills are some of the most reliable engines ever built. Always wanted to swap one with pre-chamber heads into a small pickup.
I agree
Dad had a 3 cylinder Deutz off a pump system from a cranberry bog in NJ.
He drew up plans to build a Motorcycle, with a mid 80's Gold Wing
from the transmission back. Sadly he retired, and then never got to it.
My Brother had a scrap man come in when we were at his funeral, and
got $30.09 for Dad's lifetime of parts. (was sickening)
If you wanna do something, today is the day to start.
@@bennyboogenheimer4553 That is sad to read Benny, but you are 100% right..... If you want to do something today is the day to start.
That are good engines, have a 3cyl. in my Linde forklift. Can stand for a year, always starts.
Came here to say the EXACT same thing. Other things might fail, but that engine will run as long as it has oil.
Deutz manufacturer air cooled diesel engines for many applications, from powering earthmoving equipment, trucks and a variety of military uses plus power generation Deutz have a history that goes back over a century, surprisingly they are renowned for reliability in desert conditions where cooling air is ducted and directed by a fan to the cylinder barrels and heads which can be more efficient than a liquid coolant in the heat and can freeze and split hoses and radiator cores. The Deutz trucks used by the Germans in WW2 are a good example of the reliability of these products.
Back in the 70's when the gas shortage was in full swing, the company I was working for converted two of their gas trucks to Deutz air cooled diesels. They were slow but ran super cheap. The one got totaled but the other truck is still running and being used by a farmer to take crops to the auction.
That air cooled diesel is the ultimate in simple.
Not only is that diesel nuts but the front suspension is insane! I've never seen anything like that.
That “reaching” front leaf suspension on the 47 Willys was kinda cool to see so exposed like that. Makes for a very surreal look imo.
Another excellent episode.
Thanks so much.
Rat rods are so cool .
Knew a guy who put a 4 cyl deutz into a IHC pick up . He drove 20 miles to town for coffee every weekday, filled the fuel tank once a month
I tossed around the idea of putting the engine from a 130-06 tractor into a one ton , but the one i had wouldn't start if you walked by with a ice cream cone . And being as i live where its below freezing 6 months a year , combined with trying to get heat to the cab , i never did
I could work a 10 hour day on 15 gallons of fuel and the idea of that fuel economy was pretty appealing
Figured it was a deutz from the pic!!
Nice build!!
Fun show: Interesting features!
This was the first Vintage Torque Fest. 15 years strong now and we keep hoping for Denis to make a return visit. Now located at the Dubuque Co fairgrounds. The 15th was just a couple weeks ago. Around 700 cars and 7000 attendance. Amazing show for a good cause.
I love that Willys rat rod!
Nicer than my friends convertible gremlin 😆
,, I'd like to see that !
looking at the picture first thought was Deutz engine. Tractor has different fuel pump setup lower rpm.
I never, ever miss an episode of MyClassicCarTV, it's the best. Enjoyed this one as I do all of them. Cheers.
Dig that Cragar SS center cap for a fuel door!
I've been around Deutz engines for years. They take some getting used to. The oil cooler sits at the rear of the air horn so any trash or flying debris gets sucked in and makes them overheat. No gaskets on the block or jugs. They don't need warmed up or cooled down just fire them up and pour the throttle to it.
Man, every time I see something like this I want to get out my welder...
Enjoyed!!!!! 👍👍
I actually saw one of these engines posted on marketplace the other day and my first thought was that it would be cool in a pickup truck
Blackhawk IA representing....
Dude with the 63 Impala... lol thats all im gonna say, nice ride.
Hell yeah my brother ❤
Daniel is travelin' tonight on a plane
I can see the red taillights headin' for Spain
Oh, and I can see Daniel wavin' goodbye
God, it looks like Daniel
Must be the clouds in my eyes😮
@jaredmehrlich6683 hell yeah my brother 🔥 💪
@TheInfamousHotRodFarm I'm currently dying from Lymphoma. My birthdate is 4-27 (1976). I really appreciate your work. Thank you.
@jaredmehrlich6683 sending you all the healing vibes from the deep end of my heart my brother! I REALLY HOPE YOU COME OUT STRONG FROM THIS ONE WITH THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSE YOU SHALL OVER COME! 🙏 THANK YOU MY BROTHER
I miss living in Iowa. What up all you corn cobbs!? I always stumbled on such sweet survivor vehicles up there as a young guy kickin around farms.
Deutz for the win
Them: "What type of instrument do you play?"
Guitarists after seeing this video: "The Nuclear Violin"
Im inspired to not put 30k in factory parts to restore my 72 beetle
Put a 993 engine in it.
I would have liked to see all these cars running the dirt track. Motion is better than static!
Some had rubber timing belts failed bend pushrods. I have a few .
Excellent motors .
Thet are called " oil cooled " .
I find of them in the woods all the time that's probably what he did well guess he did
Come back to the Rambler Ranch!!
Good boy
Denny, Were these men all Body,& Fender guys?
Thanks for takin' us with too!
And thats a real skull from my grandmother 5:55
The only engine that gets better fuel economy than a deutz engin is a smaller deutz engine
I work on deutz, and they do not break. If they do though its expensive. Very impressive engine, but im team kubota
front suspension on diesel was strange..
We had a Kubota tractor that was air cooled but don't know who built the engine .
Please tell me they are not demo derbying that 59 Mercury in the opening segment, I grew up in one have have been trying to find one to at least take a picture of for decades!
I hope the owner knows just how rare those are, they just don't exist in the US anymore...sigh....
What transmission
Lots of interesting stuff but only 2 minutes of the Deutz-Willys.
They should go back to air cooled. Water cooled can be a costly problem. We had a full size Dodge Caravan, V6 with a radiator the size of my tiny Chevy Sprint, 3 cylinder, 1000 cc/1 litre, 35 h.p. Radiators should be used for axels, trans, transaxels, power steering or any other liquid 1 wants to cool. Automatic trans- missions coolant lines, run throuh the engine's raditor--about 220° +/-. One of the most stupid ideas in auto history. Deutz are good. Plenty of very early 1900s Deutz engines are still good. But you can't beat a cool looking radiator grill & shroud.
