What really gets to me is seeing 3rd generation immigrant Spanish and Asian kids here in the USA who've never set foot in their parents native countries and yet speak fluent Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Mongolian and Hindi. I watch these kids at the mall with their peers talking in their parents native language yet kids who are born and bred in an African country don't even speak one native language. It really kills my soul how we are not realizing that in a few decades our culture and language would be lost.
I’m pedi, my husband is Xhosa. I hoped that he’d be the one to teach them Xhosa but that never happened. It kills me, it breaks my heart but I’m slowly working on it. I’m ashamed really.
@@tshegotams4546 we should be. Do you know how it breaks my heart when I see Jamaican kids born and raised in the US speak Jamaican patois with pride knowing full well kids in South Africa only speak English? When I see Irish descendents going to Irish celebrations after 500 years of leaving Ireland. White people and other races have preserved their languages and traditions as a way to be able to tell their stories and hold on tight to their heritage. When you don't safe guard your language you are literally letting go of your heritage, history and stories. In 50 years all the other ethnicities will be proudly holding on to their heritage whilst our kids have nothing but the English language which serves a fraction of their reality.
In my family it was rooted from oppression. Honestly can't even think in my own language because it was mostly used as a form of oppression knowingly and unknowingly so I couldn't even express myself in a healthy manner😂💔💀. So when I learned English it forced me to use my words ,it forced honesty without violence 🤣 AND I was taken to English schools. My family never really paid attention to the importance of culture. And I couldn't even communicate in a healthy way in my language. So many reasons in every family
Past experiences scare us into thinking that marriage is hostile. But when you with the right person, they make everything so easy and you don't have any reason to say no to it.
My daughter is 9 and she attends a multiracial school,at home we Speak Isizulu luckily for her i'm a teacher i've taught her to read and write in our mother tounge.English isala ngaphandle kwesango.
Bongane my brother you got yourself a real authentic down to earth woman,So woman enough that some man weren't Man enough to realise that...To a point that Zintle was against marriage but you managed to convince her otherwise just by showing her love and respect my brother...DJ Zintle congratulations my sister you deserve it and more
My husband speaks English and I speak Xhosa! I want my kids to know how to speak Xhosa fluently, I don’t know how I’ll put that off but it needs to happen!
Most African parents think just because their kids speak only English, it automatically means the kids are smart hence most parents aren't even speaking to their kids in their native languages. We are losing as Africans shame
I love DJ Zinhle but her show is like watching a 26 min promo of her businesses😂😂😂 really she doesn't seem to have time for cooking for her family. Her husband looks like a stranger visiting her house. The baby so cute is sitting on mommy while doing make-up😅 Ay shame it's hard to watch I feel bad for her😢😢
Most of our kids are like these kids nje, the challenge is so common because they start creche in multiracial schools and learn to speak (English) there at the age of 2 or 3 and they do not stay with their grand parents. Its not like parents taught them English no they didn't.
@@evidencesithole768 lol you’re making an excuse, I have two little sisters who go to multi racial school 🙆🏾♀️ one is half colored they both know how to speak English but when they are home they speak our native language and whenever the other one goes to her other grandma’s house she’s speaks Afrikaans , it’s all not that hard to set rules in the house about speaking the native language .
Its because you think situations are similar, for instance not all kids have grandmothers or township/village to visit because death robbed us of relatives, this is one example that shows that situations faced by your two little sisters are not similar to situations faced by all kids in S.A.
@@evidencesithole768 who said Grandparents are the one's that need to teach our kids their native language😳😳😳YOU'RE THE PARENT YOU TEACH THEM, you set ground rules that English stays at school....SIMPLE‼
How do you take your kid to a private school where he or she won't be taught by his or her home Language? I totally blame the parents on this issue... so into western life, money blinded.
Aybo the mother sounds and seems unbothered by her children not knowing their mother tongue💔🤡.....why respond in English at home to your children???than take them to schools that teach both English and IsiZulu
Unfortunately not all of us stay in places that have schools that teach IsiZulu, in Pretoria nje for instance there are very few of such schools and they are not close to everyone. Even schools that teaches IsiZulu in the suburban is not a kind of IsiZulu that you would say you would learn to speak Zulu out of it as it is taught as a third or second language with white scholars as part of that Zulu class. The struggle is real but ppl do not know, cos even kids from next door neighbors who play with our kids also speak English. We speak them in IsiZulu but kids respond in English

They think English equal to intelligence

You have to force them to speak it with you. If the child never hears you speaking it, how else will they learn it

I honestly feel the parent nabo are also to blame..
