Rafa. 5 straight finals. Knee injuries screwed him, unlike Djokovic. Struggled but then could only be beaten by Federer (4 sets) and Djokovic (5 sets) and injury. Very underrated grass court player
Kudos to Novak for not using his recent knee surgery as an excuse, mark of a true champion and real man there, gave Carlos all the credit he deserved, eventually Father Time catches up with us all!!
Father time has been catching up to novak since 2017. Losing in a grand slam finals after a recent knee surgery (he missed so many shots from slow movement, wasn't sliding, still obviously recovering) is what most players dream of achieving. He believe it or not, still has some more to play. With some better movement, he would have been competitive this match. Age doesn't seem to be an obstacle.
Djokovic didn't play well at all levels, surgery, he has no coach, many other issues 37yrs, 0 titles this year. If he was at the level at the end of 2023 he would win easy.
In my opinion, Carlos's physicality was the key. Novak made a lot of shots that would have been winners against any other player or, if not winners, then at least easy to finish with the next hit. However, Carlos returned them to very inconvenient spots, which Novak didn't manage to figure out, making him more nervous about how to play.
He did this to Fed for years. I am happy he is getting his own medicine. Age is a B*tch. It took the ATP long enough and two eras after Novak to find a player at Carlos' level.
Novak should be very proud. Surgery only a few weeks ago and gets to the final of Wimbledon and at 37 still at the top of his game. Love his fighting spirit and tennis but also his graciousness in defeat. That's why he is a legend and one of my all-time favourite tennis players. ❤❤
I really respect how novak approached this interview. Recognised how alcaraz had developed his game and how novak was undercooked coming in, and yet didn't sell it as an excuse. Just a good evaluation.
Novak wasn’t himself today I was hoping that Novak would win today, but I knew deep down on that Carlos would beat him. I mean Carlos is already becoming a legend doesn’t he? He’s so young and I just feel like Novak has had his time and this has, tough loss for him
@@sherlocked1496 I too think it was the knee, but he didn't want to use that as an excuse. At the stage he is at, he probably thought he had nothing to lose. A younger might have retired from the game or skipped the tournament altogether. But there is huge money at stake, so Novak went on like the champion he is.
This is how it goes right… McEnroe brought about the end of the Borg era, Roger brought about the end of Andre and Pete, Roger lost a string of Wimby’s to Novak towards the end, and Carlos is now the king of Center court. In another decade (or sooner), someone else will come along and dispatch Carlos. It’s the way of things
Novak has not brought an end to Rafa and Federer era . Rafa still has the ultimate record on clay and Roger still has it on grass. Novak should be content with his hard court dominance but unfortunately Roger lives rent free in his head. Someone will eventually best Roger’s Wimbledon record, but it will never be Novak.
@@Aliceteacup Yes he did; he did not beat ALL their records, but most of them yes, he surpassed them in practically every aspect of the game, became a better player overall than them, and even won more against them, than they agains him, in their head to head battles. McEnroe didnt beat Borgs Wimbledon record either of 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles (Borg won 11 majors, retired at 26, McEnroe won 7), Lendl didnt won Wimbledon, and "only" 3 US Opens, but brought an end to McEnroes era of 4 US Opens and 3 Wimbledon titles and also Connors era of 8 major titles, 109 overall titles; Federer never finished #1 6 straight years as Sampras did, didnt even won singles gold like Agassi did etc. So it doenst mean that every player beat every record of a previous dominant champion, but in the end they surpassed them. Djokovic overall surpassed Nadal and Federer and became greater than they already were. Djokovic is still #2 in the world, reaching Grand Slam finals, last year won 3 out of 4 finishing #1 for an all time record 8th year. Nadal is not competitive anymore, nearly retired, and Federer has been gone already. He completely destroyed most of Federer and Nadal´s overall achievements.
"In the face of adversity normally I rise , I learn and I get stronger"..the line that epitomises Djokovic he will be back for sure and surely we can try to have the same mindset...much respect legend #Nole
humility....LOL....where was the humility when he chastised the crowd last week showing once again his true colours like he does every so often yet when he is gracious like this everyone laps it up and quickly forgets all the unpleasantness, and last week was unpleasant, not needed and flies completely in the face of sporting conduct !
Love how great champion Novak Djokovic the way he appreciates his opponents. I never saw any player appraise and congratulate his opponents the way Novak Djokovic did. What an incredible champion
Novak being a bit hard on himself. He has been outplayed but he didn't play his best tennis at all. His serve and his intensity were not at the usual level. In the third set, when he started connecting good serves and pressing harder, I saw him almost coming back into the match. It would be much closer if that was the case from the beginning.
Tbh the third set could have finished 6-4 if it wasn’t for a mix of nerves and idiotic screaming from the crowd mid-point, but that’s besides the main point: I agree the sets would have been closer from the get-go if Nole had upped the intensity from the start, but I still think Carlos would have been too much and stepped into that 7th gear when it mattered most. There’s also something to be said about age, the knee and the other player on the other side of the court preventing that maximum intensity for extended periods of time. Nole really only had enough in him to pressure Carlos for a couple of games at the end of the match and Carlos brushed that aside all the same.
@@timothylee2772Alcaraz has had a weird couple of rounds coming in to this tbh even beyond the Tiafoe match. Had spells against Humbert where it felt like he was getting broken every service game, and sticking in it by breaking back each time in between. So his level on his service games in this final were an enormous improvement on those, he looked so steady on serve today.
@@jonathanb1406Or perhaps Novak gave up even before the match started. His three set rout to Carlos makes no sense to me. At least there is one more slam this year, the US Open where Novak gets a chance to defend his title and win #25. Carlos seems to be more vulnerable in hard court surfaces so Novak has better chances there. After all, Novak beat him in the last two times they met in hard court settings.
I think his serve and volley tactic failed big time today. He partially suceeded in that against Musetti but Carlos is an animal. Also his net play was horrendous today
People saying Novak failed at Wimbledon... No, after the surgery Novak used Wimbledon as a worm-up tournament before the Olympics and reached the finals!!! The one and only GOAT.
Never been a fan of Djokovic but the fact he got knee surgery only a month ago and still managed to get to the final of a GS is very impressive, a real champion
To be honest, Alcaraz played some of the best tennis I've ever seen him play and perhaps ever from a 21 year old, but Djokovic also played one of the worst matches of his career, so many easy misses, unforced errors, extremely uncharacteristic of Novak. Had he played a clean game, we would have seen an epic five setter. Djokovic was playing terribly.
Na, Djokovic said himself, he couldn't have done much today. He was completely outplayed on every aspect of the game. He literally said he could not have done anything, came from his own mouth. Alcaraz level today would have beaten a 2007 Federer on grass, he is THAT good.
@@nate9198Possibly, but I also think it's a combination of Djokovic being generous and humble and trying to say nice things to his opponents, he barely ever looks for excuses and always congratulates his opponents, but inside his head, he probably thinks "what a lousy game I played today, gave Alcaraz way too many chances with all the misshits and unforced errors that I made today, I am really angry at myself for allowing myself to play so badly", but of course Djokovic won't say that in the press conference. I agree with your other statement, Alcaraz was just too good.
Good sportsmanship from Djokovic, not taking any credit from Alcaraz, even he would have reason to, thanks great champion for making this sport even more beautiful
A fully fit Novak will still give us one or two more epic battles with Alcatraz and other next generation greats. His very honest assessment on the match and his condition going into it would seem to to indicate another grand slam win is very possible.
I wonder why he played 2 grand slams without a coach. He needs someone during the match to observe him closely and tell him what he's doing wrong. Similar to what Ferrero does for Alcaraz. Maybe it's time to bring in Marian Vajda again. He was his best coach and knows him pretty well.
Always a champion! Very honest reflections on his match and thats what made him grounded and yearn to want more.. humble in every way. Such an inspirational to everyone. :)
Eventhough I picked Carlos to win, I never expected for him to start so sharply from the start. Novak was probably hoping for Carlos to start off like last year, but Carlos knew he had to go for it. Novak was caught off guard. It was incredible to watch 😮

And people say this guy has an attitude problem. What respect he has given to Alcaraz, showing great sportsmanship
Djokovic your a legend on and off the court❤❤❤ not too bad coming runner up! Congrats to Carlos🏆
Novak should be very proud. Surgery only a few weeks ago and gets to the final of Wimbledon and at 37 still at the top of his game. Love his fighting spirit and tennis but also his graciousness in defeat. That's why he is a legend and one of my all-time favourite tennis players. ❤❤
What a Legend this man is enjoy while u all still can in goat matches
Love u Novaaaaaaaaaaaak❤
I really respect how novak approached this interview. Recognised how alcaraz had developed his game and how novak was undercooked coming in, and yet didn't sell it as an excuse. Just a good evaluation.
Can’t be the best forever, no one’s done that , still the goat
Federer is the GOAT
@@willwudwho? The PR guy looking for attention going to Taylor Swift concerts?
@@willwud Federer was the GOAT. Why do Federer's fans not want to acknowledge the truth and insist that time stop at 2009?
Novak wasn’t himself today I was hoping that Novak would win today, but I knew deep down on that Carlos would beat him. I mean Carlos is already becoming a legend doesn’t he? He’s so young and I just feel like Novak has had his time and this has, tough loss for him
I saw him uncomfortable, maybe it’s because the knee surgery
Once Sampras beat Becker, he never beat him at Wimbledon again. That's it.
@@sherlocked1496No. Because he realised that he was going to be beaten!😂
Yes, no one can maintain that level indefinitely. Surely age comes into it at some point.
Never say never.
Yes, but Novak was only dispatched from Centre Court when he was already 36 LOL
Superior but humble man and champion in every respect.
Only great man carry the truth in such honest way. Bravo Nole!!!
"In the face of adversity normally I rise , I learn and I get stronger"..the line that epitomises Djokovic he will be back for sure and surely we can try to have the same mindset...much respect legend #Nole
Too bad more pros don't follow Novak's example. Excellent example of true sportsmanship.
Humility makes him the GOAT, in mind, body and spirit. He will get No.25 and more.
humility....LOL....where was the humility when he chastised the crowd last week showing once again his true colours like he does every so often yet when he is gracious like this everyone laps it up and quickly forgets all the unpleasantness, and last week was unpleasant, not needed and flies completely in the face of sporting conduct !
No not too many more. He now has to compete with Sinner and Alcaraz . May pinch 1 more but that would be about it
@@neilprice9301Who cares? Shut up.
Keep in mind this is the same Carlos who almost lost to Tiafoe. But somehow managed to dominate Novak in the final....weird...
@@timothylee2772because alcaraz can elevate his level when it counts the most. This makes him so special
Pure class!!
I think his serve and volley tactic failed big time today. He partially suceeded in that against Musetti but Carlos is an animal. Also his net play was horrendous today
It was not up to his typical standard. It was a very poor match from him. It was a disappointing final due to his level.
his movement was dramatic
Very honest interview after 20 yrs I'm beginning to warm to him
Welcome ❤
People saying Novak failed at Wimbledon...
No, after the surgery Novak used Wimbledon as a worm-up tournament before the Olympics and reached the finals!!!
The one and only GOAT.
My 🐐
The goat
My too😊
Never been a fan of Djokovic but the fact he got knee surgery only a month ago and still managed to get to the final of a GS is very impressive, a real champion
True sportsmanship ❤❤❤
Legend of a player. Even more as a human ❤
🥰
Absolute gentlemen 💪
I’m a Rafa fan through and through and I will never understand why people hate on Novak the way they do. He is undoubtedly the best of the big 3.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him dejected and beat down as he was in this press conference - wow
A man full of greatness🙏
Djokovic played insanely BAD.
@@nate9198Djokovič said it because He is not sore loser like Federer and Nadal... 😉
Well no it's because he was genuinely outclassed, not much more to say on that.
Great human being.
Brutal Honesty there! Mark of a champion and legend!
The goat forever Novak ❤
Great player,I really appreciate him and his interview, will always be one of the best
Everything ends! I dont think he will win another Wimbledon, but I hope he does. Nevertheless, congrats to Carlos.
Always a champion! Very honest reflections on his match and thats what made him grounded and yearn to want more.. humble in every way. Such an inspirational to everyone. :)
Some of these people from the press ask some really stupid questions.
Nothing went wrong . Alcaraz was in god mode . Salute it . Havent seen a master class like that in a final for a long time . Was beautiful to watch
Novack is just such a nice guy I mean as a tennis player and as a person…. Alcaraz is different from his playmates for just like that too
I salute him for such as honest press conference. He showed class
No grudges just respect.
Eventhough I picked Carlos to win, I never expected for him to start so sharply from the start. Novak was probably hoping for Carlos to start off like last year, but Carlos knew he had to go for it. Novak was caught off guard. It was incredible to watch 😮
Honest, humble, real. Kudos Novak!
The most honest & respectable human, & yet some people don’t admire him? It’s a great mystery.. or people are a reflection of themselves. 🙏❤️
