Tube strike: How Londoners faced the disruption

  • All London Underground lines were suspended after thousands of workers went on strike.
    About 10,000 workers from the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union walked out in a dispute over job losses and pensions.
    Last-ditch talks to avert the strikes broke up after only 20 minutes.
    The RMT union has declared a second 24-hour strike will take place on Thursday, unless a deal can be reached.

    THE sooner driverless Tube trains are introduced on London Underground the better.
    The capital has been brought to a standstill this week thanks to the militant Trots running the RMT union and their greedy drivers who earn a staggering £60,000 a year plus bonuses for a job that largely entails deciding when to close the train doors and when to leave the station.
    These idiots know the post pandemic recovery is fragile yet still they decided to cripple London putting other people’s jobs at risk.
    Enough now! if those drivers don’t want their cushy job Boris should sack them and replace them all with people who want to work. He’d have the entire country behind him.

      Saying tube drivers earn bonuses proves you're either silly enough to believe the shite written in the RW press or is just making things up. Likewise on your experise on what the job entails when you've obviously never done it.
      As for another driverless wet dream, ask anyone who works on the tube to tell you how long a small section of engineering works takes then throw the usual cock ups. Over runs, lack of funding, signaling systems and stock compatibility then you might realise that for the last 10 years you've been fed drivle by the press that's owned by half a dozen billionare " patriots" all who live in tax havens outside the UK.

    • @stephenjon3502
      @stephenjon3502 2 года назад

      @@Chewscore You are talking bollox or trolling. Not all lines are ATO and those that are still require the trains to be manually driven at some point. IF you are a genuine train driver then you would be familiar with the fact that all drivers on any system need to be aware of safety procedures and the ability to rectify faults on a train - please stop going down the Evening Standard twaddle of just pressing buttons as that's nonsense - you are being paid for your knowledge. Signal sections on your line are multi aspect and much further apart so one could say its far easier to drive a train on a mainline than it is on the underground.
      Also bear in mind that 70k for a driver in the North of England is probably the equivalent to being in the top 1% of earners when the cost of living in London is 10 times higher. 350k in London would get you a shed.
      I also take it you are a union member - how did you think that a qualified drivers salary got to £70k on your line? Did you all go outside your homes at 8pm every Thursday and bang pots and pans and arrive at such a salary?

    • @Chewscore
      @Chewscore 2 года назад +1

      @@stephenjon3502 I know that all drivers ARE safety professionals, because I am one myself. I know drivers have to know how to actually drive a train or handle an emergency and to be honest I couldn't careless about it. I do it for my love of trains, I don't care about money. I am a union member but, I don't engage in strikes or union events. It IS easier to drive on the mainline, because you don't have those green stop boards although we have to stop accurately, even if we overshoot the marker by a meter, the doors will still open. Rather on the LU you need to aim for the green bit on the board to be able to open the doors. There is something that you can respect about LU train 'operators' as they don't get the luxury of sunlight most of the time!

      Take it you don't refuse your pay increases every year though do you?
      By the way - over 60% of the tube is in the open. Some lines have multi aspect signalling and run on the same lines or adjacent to main line trains or surface stock so have to know those rules and regulations too.

    Honestly, it's better to sack all of them. We can hire oversea train and tube drivers to retrain every one. Change the laws on strike and unions. Have every one sign a document to never be part of a union or go to strike, ever again. Have a system or courses to allow people to learn how to be a train driver. Half a year or year of disruption is better than being held hostage all the time.

      You can't hire oversea drivers no more - something to do with the removal of freedom of movement a few years ago. ( name escapes me )
      Don't worry the laws are being changed thanks to Patel and the empathy party.

I said immigrants who can drive a train and NO ONE WILL be upset, apart from you and staff that work in the underground and trains. I'm not talking about immigrants that do other job roles. A lot of people will be HAPPY if there is no strike, ever again. I'm not saying the goverment will close for 6 months but they should. We should put it in a vote and let the people decide.

And the platform staff and cleaners don't earn that , if you take the time to talk to them you're find a lot of them are working 72 or 84 hours a week just to keep the mortgage paid.

    How strange because right across the country in the west the bus drivers are also striking! Coincidence or a planned takedown of the infrastructure? First the doctors close doors, nhs is over run with vaxx damage, the holiday and travel industry all but ruined now the transport is closing down with co ordinated strikes? Anyone not getting bins emptied too? Ours is being left on the side of the road whilst the council try n find another contractor to do it so obviously, the council do nothing but find contractors to provide services and collect revenue to pay for it! Is this what they’re doing taking it all apart to Build Back Better?
