Yay! I have reached 16th finally and am soo happy to watch your video every friday as thats my week. I have a question for you- I am coughing these days. I do not have cold but occasional coughing. I have started getting jerks and some craps on my left or right side when I cough. These are not exactly cramps but maybe muscle contracting. I am worried if that will harm the baby? I am 28 years old and this is my first pregnancy. Looking forward to your answer :) Thankyou

What your doctor heard was your baby's heart beat not specifically the kicking although the sound of the heart beat alter if baby is mobile.

This test is usually performed between 15 and 18 weeks. It is usually done in conjunction with a first trimester screening but if you missed that, this test will still give you some reassurance. A detailed ultrasound performed around 20 weeks will also offer you reassurance. Please remember that these are screening tests and not a diagnosis. Talk to your doctor about your fears. 15 weeks is still early days to feel the baby's movement. If you are worried I would just speak to your doctor and they might offer you an ultrasound scan.

Dear Sepideh, Thank you for contacting us. An amniocentesis does put the pregnancy at risk. Your sister having a Baby with trisomy 13 was rare. You did not mention her or your age but if you are under 35 years old the risk is low. Ask your doctor about having a quadruple screen done. This is a blood test that can tell you whether your baby is at an increased risk for certain problems. It can screen for certain chromosomal abnormalities as well as neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

The pupils of your baby's eyes at 33 weeks are well developed enough to constrict, dilate and detect light.

I am 16 weeks on Monday 17th March and my baby is constantly on the move. It feels like a fish at the moment. This is our first baby, but I will be a mum on my 40th birthday she he/she decide to appear on 02.09.2013. Her/his dad will is 45 and I worry, but all the tests that you speak about hear are all normal in relation to spina bifida, Down's, etc. I give thanks each day for my little miracle as I thought I would be the last in my family as I have no brothers or sisters just mum and dad.

My sisters lost her babies twice, once at the end of 8 months due to Trisomy 13, she did request for Amniocenteses when she was at her 4 months but the doctor assured her that she does not need it,. I am very worried about these types of Pregnancy problems and my doctor says to me everything is fine but I am worried since my sister was told the same things regardless of the issues, Would you suggest taking the test anyhow? what will be the risk of this test and how can I eliminate the risk? For me is more comfortable sleeping on my right side can that affect my baby ?
Hello Adriana, thank you for contacting us. It is not harmful for your baby if you lie on your right side. The reason for suggesting the left side is to take the pressure off of your inferior vena cava which is the largest vein in your abdomen and the route your blood takes to return to your heart. If this vessel is compressed you will feel faint. If you are more comfortable lying on your left side, then lie on your right but support your bump to ease the weight. I want to stress it is not dangerous and you will know to turn based on how you feel if the vein compresses. If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. xo

Hello! My name is Robynn, and im 16 (almost 17) weeks pregnant. I was wondering if mild cramping is normal during this time in pregnancy. Its very light, but uncomfortable at times. Also, I have heard that babies can hear as early as 16 weeks from some places, but 20 weeks from others. Can you clarify for me which is true? I think my baby boy may be a little bigger than normal, because his kicks dont register as flutters in my tummy, but rather, firm, very noticeable kicks.
***** Hi Robyn, thank you for your comments. The baby's ears are developed and resting in their final destination on the side of the head by 17 weeks. It is at this time we think that baby can hear sounds from outside the womb. Feeling strong fetal movements instead of fluttering can be caused by a number of reasons. It mostly depends on the position of the placenta. If the placenta is posterior Mom tends to feel stronger movements. It can also depend on the size of the Mother and the amount of amniotic fluid.
