I love Hubba Bubba bubble gum because it didn't stick to my glasses. Alot of what is on this video I remember. I did like growing up in the 1970's and being a teenager during the 70's too.
My mom was really big into art supplies back then (she was a college student) and when they came out with those Crayola Markers she was IN LOVE with them! She didn't let us use them and hid them in her closet but we would sneak 'em out and use them to draw!
Wow; what a blast from the past! I was 8 years old when these commercial aired and was an avid watcher of Saturday morning cartoons. Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle--I watched all those shows religiously back in the day. I don't remember "Jana of the Jungle" or "Jonny Quest", though.
the white haired man at :55 is dub taylor who was one of the saloon old timers in "back to the future 3" and he was houston lamb in some episodes of "little house on the prairie"
This is epic! A pre-omlette sandwich Burger King! Star Wars commercials! We loved playing Bonkers...but wow, that jingle...And Hubba Bubba...I knew I was right about the Old West commercials! Totally awesome!!!
I remember those "In the News" newsbreaks, and the electronic music at the beginning and end. Considering that ice skating has been one of the most popular Winter Olympics sports for many years, I find it a bit surprising that roller skating hasn't made it into the Summer Olympics.
Same here. Fun little snippet. The school i went to made you put the gum on your nose if they caught you chewing. I was caught but luckily i was chewing hubba bubba. 😀
The 70's and 80's were prime for Saturday morning cartoons and cartoons all together and growing up as a kid and teen during that era was the best time to have seen it all. They also had moral and educational values. Today's it's all rubbish with no moral and educational values and worst showing and teaching kids to tolerate the mean spirit.
If you get Me TV (one of your local stations might carry it on a digital subchannel), I just recently learned that they are bringing back some of the classic cartoons in January. I think they'll be doing a 3-hour Saturday morning block, plus a one-hour hosted weekday morning program.
Thanks for these. The Burger King--*shudders* A lot of figure skaters start out competing in artistic roller skating. Really cool to see the "Star Wars" commercials, even if they're only from the rerelease. That "Bonkers" jingle--wow is really all I can say.
I loved Hubba Bubba bubble gum; haven't seen it in ages. I'd forgotten that it was made by Wrigley's; I saw their name in the fine print on that commercial.
I'm very glad that Ronald and Grimace survived that arctic expedition, otherwise they would be stuck in an avalanche and have to cut each others arms off with a saw. And Ronald's already cut his off. (*NOOOOoooooo!!*)
The CBS portion (KNTV) is from Saturday, 8/18/79. The "Muppet Show" episode with Roy Rogers & Dale Evans aired the following Monday, 8/20/79 at 730 PM.
I've always assumed the NBC portion was recorded on the same day and the person recording just flipped channels at 7:00. That lines up with the second theatrical re-release of Star Wars on 8/15/1979, which was a limited engagement for only 2 weeks.
Maybe the description changed; I was thinking it specified August 18, 1979, as the air date for these. That was the first Saturday after I started kindergarten, so I'm sure I was glued to the TV that morning! We only received 2 channels, and one of those wasn't too clear, so I'm sure I was watching the ones here that aired on CBS. Thanks for posting!
1979 was well before home video really took off (Star Wars wasn't even released on VHS until 1982). A movie theater was literally the only place where you could watch it.
Back before Star Wars became a franchise, and the first movie (originally just titled "Star Wars") was rebranded as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope."
"In the news" was also used as a reference in schools. My elementary school library (grades K-3) were sent many for these episodes, especially the ones that dealt with government/civics. "in the News" did just taht, there are some very interesting snippets out there, not just this..it had variety and it was for kids. Anyhooo--us little students could go in and see these episodes and they helped us with homework, essays, papers we were doing. Always cited out references .Today, kids can just go to wiki or google for that information.
Curious about the 'Star Wars' commercial trailer. It was released back in May 1977. Was this commercial for a theatrical re-release or was it STILL in theaters in 1979 when these commercials ran because of its crazy, enduring popularity...? I wonder!!! I'm thinking that it may have been advertising another run in theaters because 'The Empire Strikes Back' was released the following year and they were trying to rouse hype for it.
Star Wars was re-released to theaters in 1978, 1979 and 1981. The TV spot here is for the 1979 re-release. This is mentioned in the video description BTW.
Ahhhhh! Of course you did. You are always so thorough with your descriptions. So sorry that I didn't read first before posting my comment. :-) I always look forward to your videos!
Why do you assume it was animated in Japan? I'm not sure what studio was responsible for these Crest ads, but they were designed by Herb Trimpe, an artist for Marvel Comics.
RiderAndKallen That just sounds like conjecture on your part. This site with cels from the commercials lists Trimpe as the penciller: www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=133524
I take the time to write detailed video descriptions to point things like this out, so save the time writing a comment and please read them before commenting.
They met briefly in Episode II. According to that Anakin was Owen's stepbrother. Though according to the novelization of "Return of the Jedi" Owen was actually Obi Wan's brother and he and Beru were just foster parents with no relation to Anakin...though the implication was that they knew Anakin before his fall to the dark side. This was all rendered non-canon by the prequels, where Jedi Knights are presented as weird monk-like people who don't have families. I honestly much prefer Owen being Obi-Wan's brother. There's just not enough impetus for him to behave so irrationally towards Obi-Wan in Episode IV.
+Mike Troncin Yes...yes it is. I'm hoping that The Force Awakens brings some life back into Star Wars after the prequels made everyone feel dead inside.

The good ol days..long live the 70's
I love the late 70s uploads! It shocks me that I remember TV from then...such a simpler time.
MsFarzee yes it was,how I miss the 70’s
Such GREAT Memories ❤😊

The things i miss on tv. Saturday morning cartoons. Great commercials. Todays tv sucks.

That is the late Paul Winchell voicing the elephant in the Cocoa Krispies spot.
Wow, that Hubba Bubba commercial took me back! And the cavity crepes 😆 Thanks for the trip down memory lane

I remember when Hubba Bubba and Bubblicious were introduced in the 70s . Hubba Bubba was my favorite .used to chew it a lot at school
Same here. Fun little snippet. The school i went to made you put the gum on your nose if they caught you chewing. I was caught but luckily i was chewing hubba bubba. 😀
7:18 Good Lord, do I love Network IDs from the 70's. :)
That Hubba Bubba commercial is a classic! I forgot about the Cavity Creeps.
The Duke of Doubt on the Burger King commercials always creeped me out.
RIP Saturday Mornings.

Paul Winchell the original voice of Tigger in the Cocoa Krispies ad.
Thanks for these.

Great compilation
Love how the dog barks out "Crest! Crest! Crest!...."!
Best one yet! Keep 'em coming!
Okay, THAT Burger King looks considerably less creepy than the one Burger King was pushing on us a few years back. That Duke, though...
ty really brought back memories
The face of that Duke from the Burger King commercial will sure be giving me nightmares tonight...
10:35 Bonkers and 11:05 Cracker Jack--those were 2 of the greatest commercial jingles of the day IMHO.
I'm very glad that Ronald and Grimace survived that arctic expedition, otherwise they would be stuck in an avalanche and have to cut each others arms off with a saw. And

Nope, the description hasn't changed. I don't know when these aired specifically.
Thanks to commenter Joe Lourenco, I can say that these definitely aired on 8/18/79.
Thank You!!!!
Wow! I learn something on in the news; love the hush puppies one: wonder if the clown in the MacDonald commercial is still alive?
He died in 2001: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Moody
I remember some if these and I wasn't even alive in the 70's.
I don't know why, but that noise at 0:02 had me laughing hard, lol.
It reminds me of a cat noise
CBS's on-the-hour ring chime, distorted somewhat by VHS recording. One of the trademark sounds of my childhood.
+berto1111 no shit, I always wondered why I would hear that sound all the time as a kid. After some years, you hardly notice it.
Maybe it was CBS' answer to the 3-tone NBC chimes.
feverspell They're bananas...
With bubbles that won't stick to your face. That might have been an epidemic in the 70s. Love this stuff!
The NBC Saturday Morning Fever bumpers were animated by the same company that did ABC's Schoolhouse Rock.
I wonder if the girl in the Hush Puppies cartoon is Rachel Jacobs? She was a staple of 70's television.
damn how many times was Star Wars re-released back then LOL

1:17 - "Meskages"??? LOL
Are my eyes deceiving me, or were there two fried eggs in that bowl of Cocoa Krispies?
Well now I want a diving dolphin.
They never worked.
Cocoa Krispys in ice cream soo good🍨🍧🍦
