The lead tape on the bottom center gave you an average of four more yards! And was more online and just a hair more clubhead speed. I'm more interested if you would do a video again in more detail with the weight in the grip!

Great video, I have been experimenting with weights on my driver for the shape of my shot , but alao with my irons but more for the feel of the club head weight. Today's irons are so light I lose feel of the club head and feels lose coming through contact. With the extra weight, I can feel more where the club head is during the downswing and through strike.

Re tape: as long as it’s affixed securely and not anywhere on the clubface or putter face. (For a deeper interpretation of Rule 14-3, check out Decisions 4-1/4 and 4-2/0.5 in the Rules of Golf.)

I am pretty sure he did that before...I could be wrong, but I saw someone try this test....
From what I remember, it does not matter much. Mainly because the CG is already pretty tight on the iron and there is also not much real estate on an iron to have it stay affixed. All I remember it did not matter much on an iron since it was already so heavy and small.
I will try and find that video.

I just added lead tape to the bottom of my driver to make the driver heavier, and it has helped. I felt I can swing faster without the clubhead lagging behind me, and opening up at impact.

Wish you had tried the edge of the middle, back (where most manufacturers of high moi drivers place the weight)
I have read that this location tends to help close the face, as well as increasing launch and spin. My question is does this location actually promote face closure?

Nice video. I have a tsr1 and later on a fitting event which came surprisingly to our course, I figured out that the heavier tsr2 produced higher ball speed and better distance. So I build a sort of speed frame, jailbreak or pwr bridge with a 5mm wide lead tape all around the driver just a bit behind the face and I got a new tsr2. Less vibration. More crunch and a couple of more yards. Would be nice to see that in a video of yours if you get similar results 👍

Tape on the face put all your shots center or right. Tape in all other positions put your shots left of center. In my opinion the tape had more effect on direction then distance or flight.

I’m a natural 10yd draw off the tee. I put 8 out on toe and let it go. I would like to do a little hot melt to dampen the sound a bit. How many grams do you think is needed to accomplish that ?

    • @EFGMC

As little as a couple grams will lower the pitch but the more you add, the thicker the sound will get.

Unfortunately there's nothing about the data in this video that is statistically significant. Moving 5g of lead tape around really isn't going to cause any sort of change in the dynamics of a driver club head that you'd be able to see with a human test. I'd be willing to bet that if you conducted this test completely blind that you'd not be able to tell which shots were hit with the lead tape in various positions and the results are more based on placebo effect than actual results. Not being confrontational or picking a fight with the internet, just calling out that this "test" isn't really a test that shows any meaningful results that people can benefit from. The standard deviations on the launch monitor results essentially overlap showing no really difference other than the different swings a human puts on a ball from shot to shot. Placebo plays a HUGE impact on golf though so if someone knows there is tape on the toe then they might react to it subconsciously anyway. Enjoy the videos Adam, keep it up.

I am no pro but am single digit and an engineer. Like his videos but I think he always misses point that are sort of biased to his job and perhaps teaching. Adding weight to change your outcomes is a terrible idea unless you are a pretty advanced golfer looking for a few extra yards or different ball shape. If the common amateur who is in consistent, there are other problems to take care of well before weights.

Lead tape on golf clubs, as well as on tennis/pickleball racquets, is a quick and easy way to adjust performance and can help even beginners. Would you rather people spent 600 dollars on a new driver to tweak their ball flight?
