    am i really the only one here who cant see the nonsensical part at all?
    like all i can see remotely close to nonsensical in it is the fact it feels extremely far from our reality. however, at the same time, it feels really similar
    i dont know how to explain it. its like.. their reality is insanely alien to us, but at the same time, its essence has many connections that make us still feel like a lot of humankind is still left in there
    its also noteworthy that it made sure to make these communication discrepancies clear
    like how for us, concepts like having our body shattered and losing memories because of it are super hard to comphrehend, gems too are shown to struggle with the concepts of death and gender and other things that their bodies or society either lack or didnt develop enough.
    things that for one society are completely natural being a wonder to another
    yet, as time goes. you realize that behind these huge differences, there are huge similarities.
    houseki brought me a load of reflections that i strongly believe to be one of the triggers to end my "wannabe peter pan phase" and make me see maturity as a good thing. id get in details but it could end up spoilery so yea
    lets just say i believe that even tho hnk may need an extra digging or 2, its definitely not nonsensical at all.

  • @BloodySkullx
    @BloodySkullx 2 года назад +3

    Yeah no. You only watched the anime and didn't read the manga, all of what you said is factually incorrect. It's not about 'body horror' or even a 'makes no sense' creepy factor, there is a lot of abstract ideas and how people see life, Buddism has a lot to do with it. The story as I would describe it boils down to the extreme coming of age in the worst way possible, but along the way you can understand why what happened happened and even understand the ideals within the story. Phos starts off as a innocent being who eventually because of circumstances out of their control turns into something else. His experience changes him. And it's those around him who cause it. Boiling the story down to a body horror is absolutely discrediting the creator and honestly a insult.

  • @setuser777
    @setuser777 2 года назад +3

    "Body horror" what? It played with the ship of Theseus theory. If we replaced every part of a gems body with a new one, would it be the same gem? This continues with the fact gems loose there memories with each part gets broken off. If only u did js a little bit more research

    • @wolfgang3765
      @wolfgang3765 Год назад

      Lol and if only you did a little more research. Sure you could apply that to HnK but that's not what's its about. It's about Buddhist philosophy.

    • @setuser777
      @setuser777 Год назад +3

      @@wolfgang3765 what you just mentioned is also just yet another element. it's not about buddhist philosophy, it's about sentient rocks living on a deserted earth. buddhist philosophy without a doubt plays a big role in the series, as well as the ship of thesus. what makes it good is that it doens't have a singular concete theme. if it did, it would be boring. and besides, the original comment wasn't meant to say "ship of thesus" was the main result you'll get once you did a deep dive. it's that it plays a very big role in the show up until the gems abandon phos on earth.

  • @chadhill8992
    @chadhill8992 2 года назад +10

    Land sure is a masterpiece, but I have to say that your interpretation is superficial.
    Body horror is a big part of land imagery but like many things in the manga and the anime is a willfully inserted piece fit for a purpose.
    Explaining the depth and length of the Buddhist implications and parallels between both phos journey and other characters would be too long but it carries other messages like the price of change, relativity of morality and the dangers of stagnation and inaction.

    Personally, I think the story is about loss of self, at least for the main character. Each of the Lustrous have a person identity that is linked to the gem they are. And as Phos goes through the story, we gradually see her lose parts of her original self, slowly being replaced with other gems or metals. With each 'evolution', more of the original Phos is lost until she no longer resembles who she once was. As a consequence, the other gems slowly begin to see her as a danger or threat due to her changing psyche.
    But also, some people have a tendency to use gems as an example of who they are (birthstones are an example). So, since the moon (where the antagonists are from) does not have gems of its own, thus they take the Lustrous as a way of self expression.
    So, in conclusion of my perception of the Land of the Lustrous, it is a story about self expression and the loss of self.
