All the mixed signals about Katara's feelings about Aang are the real sticking point for me. That's what made the ending feel weird. Plus there was a whole episode where Zuko helped Katara work through the anger and bitterness of losing her mother. He gave her the choice to be angry and to take revenge or to show mercy. That seemed a whole lot more respectful of Katara as a person than Aang's usual assumption that she could deal with things like an airbender when she was never raised that way and didn't understand Aang culturally.
But it really sounded to me as if instead of accepting her anger she should just listen to his arirbending values. Honestly , i don't think she was intending to kill him till the last moment. Like her mother was burned to death. It was more about facing the killer rather than revenge and forgiveness. Katara is her own person, she has a moral compass of her own, she does'nt need advice from aang or zuko or anyone. Zuko only offered her a chance for closure for her anger which had been poisoning her since childhood. If u notice, she does'nt mention her mom again after that incident. She had made peace with that pain and if she had listened to aang, she would still be very much hurt.
@@Primetime6465 you missed the point of that sentence. It was to say that Zuko let her choose for herself what she wanted to do without pushing her to make one choice or another based on his values. He respected her agency.
When Katara and Zuko go after her mothers killer and Aang says that line about "How do you think I felt when the sand benders stole appa" as if he just calmed himself down on his own and just forgave them. Yet when katara needed some catharsis he didn't want her to have it
@@no.5179 I don’t get why aang did not mention that his whole nation got slathered but anyway. Did he want revenge because of that no because I think aang is actually more mature than Katara in some cases I don’t really ship kataang or zutara cause I see both sides no side is definitively right
To people saying that Katara and Zuko barely interacted: It’s because Bryke disliked the fact that majority of the fandom shipped the two together. So Zutara have minimal scenes. My real problem with Katara and Aang is that they don’t ever really have romantic tension in any way. People argue that they were together from the beginning, and that they were meant to be. I only can ever see them as siblings, and that Aang just has a middle school crush on her. Zuko and Katara started off on the wrong foot, and at the beginning, they never had any positive interactions. But as the show went on, they had to work out their feelings and get to know each other. The fact that even with their minimal scenes together, they manage to be a more mature and compatible relationship that Katara and Aang ever were even with the abysmal amount of interaction they had says something. They originally were written to be together, and Bryke’s opinion on what characters should be together went against what the other writers were going for. But because he wanted Aang to be the hero who gets the girl, Katara was tossed up and compressed to “Avatar’s wife”. Katara didn’t need to be in a relationship in the series, especially with Aang, and I think he knew he’d have to get a wife at some point, and that he’d elope with some lady in the future. But if it was her end goal for her to fall in love, Zuko should’ve been the one. They were mature, they had to seek out what they had in common, and they were unique together because no other characters had their dynamic. They were somber together, they were angry with each other , and they were hurt by each other. They would have many different emotions with their mixed opinions on the other, especially Katara. With Aang, Katara never really had any emotional moments, and at the most she’s been mildly annoyed but always there to reward the character with a kiss on the cheek or some compliment. If she were to be Zuko, I think it would allow Katara to be explored more, and how she’d live as a water tribe peasant, but at the same time have so much power in the fire nation (I don’t know what she’d be called , so I’m not slapping a label) They also have all their symbolism, but I don’t feel the need to explain it. All in all, they’d be more compatible and make far more sense then if Katara was with Aang.
actually they weren't originally written together the creators said from the beginning that kataang was always going to happen which is why they have small romantic gestures from the beginning.
@@paigemackenzie722 No, Kataang wasn't even planned from the beginning. The original series outline didn't have Katara end up in a romantic relationship with anyone. Kataang was a later development. Go check out the I.P. Bible.
It's only occured to me since watching your videos how poorly they wrote Katara in regards to her romantic relationship with Aang. She is an amazing character that has so much life and depth but to Aang, she is simply the pretty girl that he 'gets' at the end. Never once did the show explore her feelings towards him. She literally tells him before the finally that she's confused and then next thing you know they're kissing and getting married. It was such a disservice to her character. Even her relationship with Jet was only written for the development of Aang's character. They never cared about her romantic feelings. Even if Zutara didn't happen, I don't think she should have ended up with Aang.
Their relationship was based on her being Aang's friend, mother and moral support. She never showed romantic feelings for him. The story with Zuko was better laid out. In fact he was on his way to ... then they changed their minds. But both the Zutara actors and some writers and scriptwriters are Zutarians and talked about that being the focus.
@@hotcheerios. Of course I saw the show. And it is my opinion and that of many people (we are the majority). The romantic relationship with zuko did not happen in the end, as we all saw. But their story was better argued and if they fell in love in the end the development would be better written than the one they wrote for katara and Aang. It would be a consistent and in line with the scripts of the show. the kataang ending was poorly argued. It is the result (which a USA sector likes so much) that the hero keeps the prize, just for being the hero. No one has asked Katara, what's more, she disliked the show that he went in that direction ...
Carmen Rilo y’all only say that cuz y’all like zuko. If anything if that’s ur argument then none of them should have been together cuz they barely had a connection. They had been building the story up for the whole series. But then again u say majority but i don’t see proof
@@hotcheerios. I don't want to start a war of opinions with you. Each has its own. But I'm sorry to say yes, we like Zuko and we like him very much. In fact Zuko, Toph, and Iroh are Avatar's favorite characters (in many polls over the years). And Zuko, despite Bryce and Mike, is the favorite character of even many anime series. He surpassed his protagonist (because I do not know if you know that the two of them did not create him). And yes, we also like Zuko with Katara because we love their dynamics together, their chemistry and because, I insist, the actors who dubbed them and many of the writers and directors bet on this relationship. But since it was the show of Byrce and mike and they wanted the Kataang it was there ... these writers that I tell you did not make neither the comics nor korra, and so it was, a failure.
yeah. when I was a teen girl, I knew that kataang bothered me, but as I grew older, I realized why it bothered me. Katara was always giving and at best, conflicted about her feelings for Aang. She explicitly told him to give her time, and we never got to see her deal with her feelings. Kataang was never about her, it was about Aang. And it felt petty af at the time, from a fandom standpoint. And yeah, narratively Kataang just doesn't do it for me. I personally love Zutara but I think Katara should have ended up alone for the time being. Like... they are all kids who went through so much trauma together, and they really needed time to work through that.
I feel like I will have to say this a thousand times over and over again until I die, but from the perspective of a writer, yes, write what you want to write, but more importantly *write what gives your characters justice*. If you put together this whole world and all these different characters and in the end, decide that you want something to happen just because you ship it, without writing it in a way that can make that possible, you have failed as a writer. Either write the characters in a way that makes the relationship believable or don't ship it at all. This series was entirely underlined with what the writers shipped and wanted, when in reality, if they had taken that element out of it and just focused on friendships, you would've had a near-flawless series that few could actually argue over.
This is a mistake many writers have made. JK Rowling did it with Harry Potter (Harry/Hermione versus Ron/Hermione), the writers of friends did it with friends (Ross/Rachel). Writers have a duty to write what makes sense for the characters not do their wish fulfillment
@@gerstein03 When I was younger I used to ship Ross and Rachel so hard. Then when I get older I realized just how toxic their relationship really was. Also, Ron and Hermione just makes more sense. I never could get with her and Harry, even when I was younger.
Queen Valencia I'm referring to the fact that Rowling came out and said that she should've done Harry/Hermione because she felt it made more sense, meaning she made the mistake. Personally I didn't really care but if she thinks it made more sense in one way than another then she fucked up
@@gerstein03 from my perspective Harry got married too early he was already rich and didn't need to work, but he wanted to, if I were he would work as an auror, after 40 I would think about getting married and then I would retire at that age he could have time just for his children, they say that in that shit fanfic called the cursed child he is not a good father, but of course he is not, he wants to hold the world with just two hands, it's funny how he idealizes his marriage with Gina (I don't remember the name of the book), if gina was a real-life woman they would have already broken up and the reason is always the same" lack of time"
@@gerstein03 Rowling thought Ron/Hermione wasn't done as well as it could have been, but she also said that she absolutely sees Ginny as Harry's "true love" so it's not exactly true that she wanted Harry/Hermione instead. I personally think she wrote the Ron/Hermione relationship much better than the Ginny/Harry one.
You brought up something quite valid--Zuko and Katara's relationship was EARNED. They worked at it, and once they found their groove it was a beautiful thing to see. Aang earned nothing. He never adjusted his view of Katara when anything contradicted his preconceptions. The symbolism of the Zutara pairing would have been more profound and the ultimate expression of peace, a new era, and a better future. If Aang had to be paired with anyone, Toph would have been a better match. She balanced him, challenged him, and forced him to look outside his own perspective for a moment. I won't even get into how more age-appropriate this would have been. As someone who is old enough to have children of these ages, I think of Katara was my daughter I would consider her infinitely better off being with Zuko.
I can understand shipping Zutara or kataang, but Aang and Toph? Wtf? There is no romantic chemistry between them, no romantic moments, no nothing other than friendship
@@deletedaccount6388 Exactly!!! It felt like that was always a placeholder ship for the leftovers, especially for those shipping Zutara. Since Aang single and Toph single, let's just put them together. lol
@@raec5426 it's a kids show, they didn't need to force people into a relationship in the first place. Mai and Zuko were awful, Yue and Sokka were awful, Katara and Aang was at least decent compared to those ships in terms of development and romantic moments. I wouldn't say Zutara is superior to all the ships, mainly because it lacks romantic moments and time to build an actually build a relationship
@@LM-ix7pkYou will noticed that I specified *if* Aang "had to be" paired with a girl from the gaang, then there's a better case for Toph than for Katara. I agree with you that there are problems with that match. However--I think the possibility was first foreshadowed in the swamp episode. Katara saw a vision of her mother--who was at the center of her very heart. Sokka saw a vision of Yue--his first love. and Aang saw...his earth bending teacher...to me, if Toph was *only* intended to be his teacher it seems strange that she appeared in a vision to him when Katara and Sokka had visions of people who they completely loved. When I first watched the series I had thought that Toph was meant to have a closer relationship with Aang and that it was through her that he would get over his childish crush on Katara. Ultimately the wrote differently--but this is one of the many reasons why I take what the creators say about the character's intended romances with a very large grain of salt.
To me personally, I always find the "hero gets the girl at the end" super cringy, since the writers probably imagine themselves as the hero, so it's like they're giving themselves the girl at the end. Almost always awkward and usually takes me out of the experience.
@Avatar aang It feels too one-sided and too much like "hero gets the girl." It's perhaps nice from a male perspective, but none of my girlfriends who watch the show like Kataang, and neither do I.
Honestly I have nothing wrong with kataang but it’s just so bland and boring, Love at first sight crap plus it’s not entertaining at all. But with zuko and katara there is so much more chemistry. Zuko starts off as the bad guy and then redeems himself. He had to build a relationship with katara and that’s why they were more entertaining personally.
Love at first sight/soulmate is the biggest load of bullshit ever. You have no soul mate. You have someone you work really hard to maintain a relationship with because often relationships are work but at the end of the day you do it because you love each other
And some people have the audacity to say that Katara and Aang were building their relationship from the start.Yes they were, but not in a romantic way.The romance they had was Aang having a crush on her,and writers not giving a damn to try to look through Katara's eyes..On the other side,Zuko and her are building their relationship both at the same time, equaly. They grew together. Kataang was one sided and they ended up together just because the writers wanted to,but they forgot how poorly they wrote their romance over the episodes..
That’s what I AM SAYING and the same thing for Zuko and Mai , to me Mai is the character that is an independent women who needs no man like Katherine in TVD I don’t feel like it was right to but them together
How do you have nothing wrong with Kataang and say every single negative thing about it. It’s obvious that just because they beat doesn’t mean they are the best chemistry “couple” in the whole entire show. It is clear the Katara and Zuko never liked each other and never will, they had one good victory and thats it. Let’s be real zutarians, zutara wasn’t gonna happen 99% chance. 😔😔😔😔😔😤😤😤😤😔😔😔
Anyone seen that "Treat You Better" Kataang video? I found it hilarious. Especially since in the end, Aang didn't treat her better. I mean, the guy practically left her alone to take care of her 2 kids, while only fathering one, playing favourites and not caring about the other 2 because they weren't air benders, making her into an air bending baby making machine, etc. Now, you tell me, that if Tenzin wasn't an air bender they would stop having kids.. Bro this is something else. And don't get me started on how Zuko would be a WAY better husband than Aang was, seeing as he knew all the ways to NOT be a good dad/husband. Also, can we talk about how the guy compared an animal being taken away to a guy MURDERING Katara's mother?!
It's kind of funny how the "Fortuneteller" episode shapes the whole narrative of deciding your own destiny. Her predictions come true because people *make* them come true. Katara at this point believes that Aunt Wu's predictions are always true, and realizing that Aang is a powerful bender makes her see him as a potential love interest for the very first time in the show. In the end, it could be that Katara gets together with Aang because she believes it's her destiny, which makes the prediction come true. Now I wonder what would actually have happened if they had been attacked by Zuko instead of a volcanic eruption in this episode and Sokka would have commented on Zuko's bending ability. Granted, Zuko is far from being one of the most powerful benders in the show, but perception is what matters.
One major problem I have with BryKe choosing KatAang to happen is that it is not a good message to send to the young audience that is kids and teenagers. A relationship where you romanticise the person you’re head over heels for to be in this perfect light is not what you want. When you put your crush on a pedestal and think they are perfect does not assist you in seeing their faults, flaws and differing opinions to you. As mentioned in the previous ZuTara video that Joshua made, not seeing the differences between you and your “perfect” crush leaves you open to arguments and shock, possibly even heart break. ZuTara makes sense because of many reasons but my main reason is that they challenge each other to the point that they ultimately understand each other wholeheartedly. Not to mention that Katara’s feelings towards Aang are never uncovered, it’s almost as if she gives in to Aang liking her and so gives into a relationship with him, another message that kids shouldn’t learn. Feelings are valid and should be respected. It almost treats Katara as if she has no say in the situation and that her feelings do not matter. Edit: for those of you who think this video doesn’t really support ZuTara and is just anti KatAang, there’s a ZuTara video on Joshua’s channel that focuses more on this ship. This video is almost like why KatAang doesn’t make much sense and the other video is why ZuTara does make sense.
Idk I wouldnt say they understand each other wholeheartedly. They didnt get enough screen time! All zuko really did was accompany her on that journey, didnt have enough scenes to justify that they had a huge emotional bond 😄 another season then maybe!
@@bobababe2739 I wouldve preferred a spin off show or something with all the post war politics. I think they ended it at the right point but more from those characters was desperately needed!
@@bobababe2739 that too haha, maybe then we could see what katara did instead of everyone speculating she was just a housewife and never did anything 😅
Totally agree with you man.. Also, just to add.. Why would they make the cave of 2 lovers episode if they didn't have any intention for Zutara? I mean, the story just outright fits zutara..
My problem is Aang NEVER showed up to be able to support Katara emotionally the same way she had done multiple times Also sometimes he invalidates her feelings, like the episode when Katara wanted to Avenge Aang, Zuko showed way more respect and emphaty
I am really happy to see that I am not the only Zutara fan left after all these years!!! Once again I’m not a kaataang or zutara shipper. Either one could of happened and I would of still been happy with the show. I could care less about the romance and more about the development. I was just stating my opinion about what I think on both sides and what I got from the episodes. All I said was aang didn’t dismiss katara feelings and if zutara would of happened than a lot of kataang fans would be complaining. I didn’t say omg kaataang forever. Once again it was about 50/50 it could of went either way from what I gathered from the show. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to express what I think
I feel like it also just makes sense. We've seen romantic hints and tension between the two, it being mutual rather than Aang's continued affections and Katara's mixed feelings. When Katara trusted Zuko with her life and everyone else's lives in Ba Sing Se. When Katara offered to heal Zuko, and he let her touch him, being quiet and understanding. When Katara and Zuko are separated during the battle, you could see the look of jealousy on Aang's face. When Katara sought out the man who killed her mother, Zuko didn't advise her against or for anything. He simply let her be her own person, knowing that different people deal with their emotions differently, rathe than Aang, who continued to force his beliefs onto her. (It's the same with his affections) And, c'mon, that final scene where he protects her. What I love about that scene is the fact that he understands she is her own person, that she can protect herself, but, as an act of kindness, saves her when she couldn't. Kataang always felt a little... forced. Like the protagonist got the pretty girl at the end. Zutara felt natural, especially that Zuko was beginning to see the world outside of the stereotypes, and marrying a waterbender would've made the arc perfect. The best ships actually help the character's development and the plot, so Zutara would've completed both Zuko's arc (stepping out of the stereotypes) and Katara's arc (forgiving the Fire Nation).
I'd like to point out in LOK, it is clearly highlighted that Aang only took part with Tenzin. Kya and Bumi both spoke about how Aang ignored them, leaving Katara to raise Kya and Bumi alone. Zuko was forced to raise Izumi. It wasn't ever confirmed who Izumi's mother is, but I'm assuming she left or died. These two played the parent figure in their children's lives and I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Zutara was canon.
Hey I also sometimes wonder if zutara would’ve made a good couple and had a good family. Because Aang is a avatar and his pretty busy saving the world. And # it brought his family and later his grandchildren problems.
I thank you 🙏 very much. I also think, if you might’ve seen in Legend of Korra Toph meets the grandchildren, even when though he was the Avatar, what kind of crazy 😜 things he did. And being the Kaaang, even the family came to helping the world 🌎. If it was Zutaara maybe they wouldn’t have to go around. Because of being the family of the Avatar, they also became a benders 😯. Look at Zuko as a Firelord, i think he had a very quiet life. P S: I think anybody would like a quiet life in a very quiet neighborhood.
I will forever defend my point that Katara and Aang don't feel right together because she was basically his mother/big sister. With Zuko it would have felt like real, mature love. I feel that what Aang had for Katara was more of a childhood crush or infatuation. And I will die on this hill.
Bro, I don't ship Zutara but I love seeing these videos lol. The thing is I didn't even know there was a shipping war at all since watching it in 2010 and I only found out in 2019 and I looked up some old forums on the internet and Damn! It was a disaster 🤣🤣🤣
See, imagine you find a 12 year old kid, who then crushes on you, and you have no idea about it. Then you have to face tons of circumstances where you have to kiss him to get out of a cave. You then choose to mother this kid as he is a 12 year old boy and they tend to be volatile at the best of times. Later on the show, you are then confronted by that boy about your feelings towards him being romantic. You then say you are confused, and then he kisses you out of nowhere. And then everything turns out alright. Aang saves the world his way and katara just blindly accepts him. And whatever was platonic between them, you kataangers misconstrued to be romantic, since the writers also shipped kataang and wanted that to happen. Their romance was delivered in an obvious way. Nothing was subtle. It is just stereotypes of stereotypes. It is just a bland, cliche relationship, where it has nothing to offer for the show, other than just bad flirting and just cheesy romantic dialogue.
I don't believe that airbenders will be completely wiped out if katara does'nt marry aang because:- 1. Bending is not genetic and aang recruits air acolytes after the war. And airbending is highly spiritual. The air acolytes were educated in air nomad culture and spirituality. I'm positive that the next airbenders could come from them. 2. This is a crazy theory that i saw on internet, zuko and katara's child could be an airbender because fire+water=steam, and steam=air. So you know its hypothetically possible. 😉😎😋
I told myself I would stop getting sucked into these ship war videos, but I remember a tiny fact that the creators/Nickelodeon shared somewhere that I can't remember. And that is that Zuko was in fact Katara's original love interest. They changed this to Aang, however, for reasons I don't know. I guess they wanted Katara to be the embodiment of Aang's love for his people, but I don't understand why Toph wouldn't have worked just as well since the two of them are closer in age, I'm not adding the 100 years frozen in an iceberg because Aang didn't actually grow older in the iceberg. And yes, Tophaang and Zutara are my favorite shippings in this series. They might not be canon, but they would work well. Instead Katara became a Prize in the plot and I would love to have a time machine to change the ending. but oh well. Sorry to rant.
While I am a zutara supporter in the episode nightmares and daydreams he's not trying to make ither lives harder he's a 12 year old trying to figure out how to defeat the most powerful evil ruler and the nightmare where he's trapped under ice shows he's scared of Zuko at this time but he also knows Zuko is not threatening compared to ozia. And also since most avatars don't find out they are the avatar before age 16 so he had a lot on his shoulders at a young age.
Theyll probably fix katara and aang relationship making it much more defined in the ongoing comics that are still being created. (i still prefer zutara tho)
I think I also have a few cool quotes "When we are at our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change." "Pride is not the opposite of shame but it's source, true humility is the only antidote to shame. "I don't know if it's because i'm too weak to do it or if it's because I'm strong enough not to."
6:24 Bruh, the salt towards Aang too strong, can't even hide it. Make it seem like Aang made the Avatar job about being a celebrity, not a world ambassador. lol
All Katara and Aang did was argue in most of season 3. Half of the season none of their arguments resolved. Idk how she went from confused to not confused at ember island players. She realized because he won against Ozai??? I think they could’ve just ended the show without him and Katara kissing. They could have explored their “relationship” thru the post series content in the comics.
One thing I think we disagree on is what the goal of Aang's arc is. I think Zuko and Aang were supposed to kind of have opposite beginnings and endings. Zuko started off trying to do everything by himself and learned to rely on others. Aang started off being heavily reliant on his friends but, in the end, learned to embrace his responsibilities and stand alone when he needs to. I do think it could have been explored a little deeper. Ultimately, I think the whole show could have been more thoroughly explored if it hadn't been a kid's show.
Katara is a water bender. That element is associated w/ nurture. I interpret that as her love language. Plus early on she showed jealousy when Aang got attention from other girls, this carried through during the dance Aang hosted when Sokka said he looked cute w/ another girl.
@@alyshamalia4137 Ah, but she actually wasn't in the episode you're referring too, Aang just accuses her of it. What she is actually is annoyed with him being irresponsible and letting his fame get to his head. She isn't actually jealous.
And in my opinion it brought these problems because of being the family of the avatar. If and it’s a big if they were, the family of 🔥 fire lord just maybe it could’ve been different life.
You make a good case as to why aang and katara shouldn't be together but not really one for zuko and katara and leave out some stuff. They don't really have much in common, zuko already loved Mai, and katara even after forgiving zuko for his crimes wouldn't realistically jump into his arms
Brigantia Blackbird bruh how little you know of women. I am a girl and this isn’t realistic, a girl like Katara would find him as a good best friend or a jerk for his past actions and would hold grudges. There is no chemistry between them because they’re allies and friends.

It goes beyond just ships and show writing, its overall behaviour online, and from what I've seen so far there's no sense of decency among these people who claim to ship Kataang.

So we’re just really gonna overlook zukos girlfriend in the show and just zoom past that for gosh sakes zuko already found love in mai those two had a great bond one mix up but they were back together so hard now why try to argue on the fact that katara is a good choice for zuko the most katara ever did for zuko was save him from his sister and well kinda having a bond with zuko she’s developed more chemistry with aang like isn’t it far fetched as to why people disagree on aang and katara even though zuko found what looked like very true love on the show. Why try to bring him with someone who really only saved him because he was defenceless and just doesn’t want to lose a friend
Mai is a toxic and one dimensional character. May I remind you they broke up THRICE. And if you think that's healthy, then I hope you never get into a bad relationship, because God knows you wouldn't know the difference between a healthy and unhealthy one.
I am not mad that katara ended up with aang because at least aang is very nice and loves her but honestly I feel like that katara and aang are more like siblings than lovers because katara has mothered aang throughout the whole series while at the same time I think katara should have ended up with zuko because they were depressed and lost plus they lost their mom in different ways and I feel like zuko understands katara way more because of that and I know that they would support each other through the good and bad! Plus aang is still a child still trying to mature and Zuko is independent and responsible which katara needs!
Katang is even worse in the comics for Katara specifically, she became Aang's trophy wife which is more evident proven in LoK, I have to point out that the creators had more control in these instances and not as big of a writing team as atla had. Based on the creators behavior towards zutara fans (bullying kids by making fun of their fan works for them.... these are two grown ass men by the way). I'm convinced, you have to thank the guest writers for the show's massive success. The creators came up with the idea at best, elemental power which was done many times by different media but now I don't think they deserve the success that it did, the more I heard about their mistreatment of Katara, the fans, and misogynistic ways they think. Had this not been for the guest writers I can see Katara wouldn't have amounted to much originally (and we wouldn't have had Toph). Consider Bryke lucky, cause as you can see they did a shiat job when writing Lok.
Believing Katara deserved better than Aang is fine, but Zuko? Zuko did change for the better but not completely. I honestly think the best way for Zutara is during LOK. Aang died and Zuko has greatly matured past his toxic nature, at least from what I’ve seen.
Everytime I see a zutara video there alway that one person who says how zutara is the most toxic ship and saying how kataang is more better. Like people chill out we all have different opinions and we should respect each others opinions instread of saying that their an opinion is wrong. I'm not trying to say that kataang shipper are toxic I'm pretty sure there is toxic zutara shippers but I just think that shipping zutara isn't just nothing but toxic. (I'm probably going to get some dislikes on this one.)
THIS IS AN ESSAY, SO PLS FORGIVE ME 😂 This is just my analysis (and based on some reviews I've read) about Ember Island episode and why Aang kissed her (and yeah, that is wrong!). Aang was basically humiliated in the play (even his masculinity) and he became very sensitive and insecure. 1. He was portrayed as a woman in the play (which was an insult for him). 2. "The Avatar? He is just like a brother to me" -Katara actor 3. He is still a kid and is not experienced in terms of love conflicts. Remember, he is bad at flirting. "I'd rather kiss you than die".. "So.. papaya" and he does not have the guts to express to Katara how he feels about her. When he talked to Katara in the Ember Island episode, he was very straight-forward (which he does not do usually). "Did you mean what you said in there? That I was a brother to you." Did we see Aang facing his conflicts head-on or talked to Katara how he felt about her directly? No. He doesn't have the guts. It shows he was not thinking straight here and was driven by his insecurities. Hence, he made that wrong move of kissing her. But in the end, he BACKED OFF. He called out himself as an idiot. And when he went back to the play, he seated next to Sokka but he was originally seated on the row where Katara is. He knew he went out of line. And I think this part is still important for Kataang because we heard Katara's side. 1. "I never said that. An actor said that" - This line is important. It lets us know that Katara denied that Aang is just a brother to her. 2. "We are in the middle of a war. We have other things to do. This isn't the right time. Right now Im just a little confused" - This is soooo in line with Katara's character. Her main priority is to end the war and romance is not something on her mind yet. (But its clear all throughout the series how important Aang is to her). That is why I don't understand why other shippers think that Katara is like a prize for Aang defeating the Fire Lord. She made it clear that they have to end the war first. And if Aang just forced himself to Katara, Katara should not have given that finale kiss. That finale kiss is an indication for Katara that "finally the war is over and we can be together now." So yeah.. Thanks for reading my essay 😂 Show less
She says she felt confused because she was unsure of herself being in a relationship. She only said that was not the right time because she is right, they are in the middle of the war. There are literally multiple scenes which demonstrates aang’s idealization towards her. Not showing much from katara. She says it herself, she felt CONFUSED. Why would she say she felt confused if she did not want her in aangs mind in the war? Makes no sense. Also, maiko has proven to be a highly dysfunctional and non romantic relationship in the show by far. Zutara actually had limited scenes, yes. But the scenes where they were in has proven to be highly complex chemistry than the chemistry between katara and aang. A relationship is built through compassion, empathy, trust, and it should focus on both the characters perspective and feelings towards each other to make the relationship feel whole and earned. It should absolutely not involve a childish idealization towards a person who clearly acts morherly like 95 percent of the time and shoudl not involve shunning ones inner feelings of darkness and feelings of moral ambiguity, something aang did. And the aftermath of their relationship was terrible. Katara was never given a statue in the legend of korra and did not earn even 1/2 the recognition the other team avatar members did. That is not to say that kataang was completely inessential. Im just saying that katara should have chosen a person who could clearly understand her as a person and who would allow her to make her own decisions without favoring the decision which she doesn’t want, someone like zuko.
@@heisenberg1681 Ok but I get your point but Zuko doesn't have romantic feelings for katara, Nor does katara ever shown signs of love to Zuko. I don't understand what you mean by "Katara can't make her own decisions by herself." Also not getting a statue doesn't mean their relation ship shouldn't have happend. Katara wanted to be the next generation's gran-gran she never wanted to be apart of the republic city council. Not to mention even if Katara started dating zuko the same thing would happen with mai. Zuko would be leading an army while Katara starts feeling like the relation ship isn't going anywhere. Zuko and Katara's relation ship Ideals are completely different.
Corona Time i never said she did have feelings for zuko, nor zuko for her. Im just saying that the dynamic and the relationship they had did not have enough time to develop. And also, katara never has shown any explicit romantic feelings for aang. And dude, blushing does not mean u like the other person. It is actually a sign of uncertainty and confusion. Katara wanted and thought about what was best for others, but did not think what was best for herself, thats why she said she felt confused. Then after like 3 episodes, she finally chooses to be in a relationship with him. The time between the ember island players and sozin’s comet was like a couple of days, so idk why she finally chooses to be with aang. Im not saying she should be with zuko, but i wish the show would explain more how she felt towards aang, and that would make their relationship develop in a way that does not feel one sided. From season 1 onwards, she treated him as nothing more than a friend. Same for zuko, but at least she treats him as an equal. With zuko, she feels like a normal girl, but with aang, she feels like a mother to him. And aangs childish idealization to her basically defines kataang. But anyways thats my opinion lol. I like kataang though, it does have certain things in it that are better than zutara, but i feel zutara was written better and kataang works realistically.
@@heisenberg1681 When did she yearn to become popular and famous? I'm pretty sure you made that up. Also if you watched legend of korra she is literally the next generation's version of gran-gran. Btw if you watched avatar you would know that katara wouldn't let aang control her as she is very independent.
Why did he skip the episode where Katara proposed to kiss Aang. The episode of the cave of two lovers where she tells Aang maybe they should kiss because the curse said they would be trapped there forever unless they trusted in love. That is a big hint that she did feel something for Aang. Aang didn't give a great response but, at the end they kissed because they both wanted to kiss and this happened in the beginning episodes of book two. After that this is not even addressed there should have been more built up or more romantic scenes between them. There was also obvious moments were Katara was jealous. Like when they visited Kiyoshi Island or when Aang dance with that fire nation girl. At the very least I think Katara is the one that doesnt deserve Aang. Her excuse in book three when Aang kissed her and she said she was confused was that they were in war. Like they have not been in war since she met Aang, like they were not in war when they kissed in the cave, like they were not in war when her and Aang dance together in the and they felt the chemistry together. Don't give me wrong if she didn't want to be with Aang I think it would have been ok, but there were feeling between them there was chemistry between them, and many people make it seem like there was not and like she just didn't tos that away by the end of book three. I think it was the writers mistake to make Katara say she was confused, they could of have been together long before that. As for Zuko and the episode where he takes Katara to see her mother's murderer he only did it because he didn't want to be the bad guy anymore. He didn't accept that Katara hated him. He could of cared less if Katara killed the man or not, he even openly says that she should kill him. Aang is the one that understands that she needs to face him, not kill him, and make the correct decision based on who she is. Based on the fact that she is not a murderer.
Braulio Sanchez so whats the point? aang chickened out in trying to express his feelings for her and that was the perfect time to. im not sayin zutara should happen but im saying kataang is awkward and lacks perspective from katara.
@@heisenberg1681 Yeah i agree they are akward and their love story is written poorly and thats my point why is it that after the episode of the two lovers nothing happened to be honest i would of loved seeing aang with another girl and see kataras reaction instead of him drooling for her through out the show, but also katara basically proposed ti him in that episode and he did nothing so i agree with you
Even though I totally ship kataang I believe their relationship came out of no where, and somehow feels absurd, katara was never shown to have feelings for aang what so ever, unlike the way how her crush on jet and zuko was obvious, the relationship feels forced, However I think just because katara deserve a different love interest, it doesn't have to be zuko. Because in the way aang was obsessed with katara, zuko wasn't at all. But I believe katara will be better with aang.
I mean that kiss was put there to show that Katara wants a relationship and shes ready for one now. Plus it most likely ended that way because it wasn't really the end since there are the comics after it. I feel like a lot of people always based things off the show and completely forget about the comics, including you
I am here to say my opinion The way everything happend in the shows is better by the way it is Kataang is much better than Zutara I still don't understand why the hell people ship zuko and katara
This comment section made me lose brain cells, honestly, Kataang is the more developed and intelligent ship. I know no one will agree with me on this and I would try to convince you guys (medium.com/@odierig/the-case-for-kataang-in-avatar-the-last-airbender-1027f043a647 if you want to see if I can) but quite obviously I won't be able to. It's saddening to see people distort and misconstrue a beautifully told story and ignore the ingenious and well-developed arc of Kataang. It's unfortunate that I won't be able to get through to most of you poor disillusioned people so I'd like to leave with a final mention of this: KATAANG IS CANON AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE THAT NO MATTER HOW SALTY YOU ARE LMAOAOAOAOAO
Bro, you're the only salty one here. Imagine posting a comment hating on us on OUR VIDEOS and calling US salty. My God, what had this generation come to?
You're being perfect at being unreasonable. Stop reprimanding others over their opinions. No one is going to change. I don't ship anymore. I am absolutely tired of having to lecture Kataang fans to STOP SENDING DEATH THREATS. That's how bad your fandom is. You harass others, call other ships toxic, and send DEATH THREATS over ships. I reprimand Zutara fans too, but I know by fact I have lectured way more Kataang than Zutara. Stop calling others salty when you still have feelings that haven't be resolved. Call people salty when YOU aren't.
So the biggest criticism of Kataang is that she was like a mother to him and while there's an element of this, he also is often her protector with her cries often being the last thing he hears before entering the Avatar state. Age alone doesn't seem like much of an issue as Katara is 2 years older than Aang but Zuko is 2 years older than Katara (although the boy being older is more common). As Aang matures we see him become a leader and support Katara emotionally as much as she does him. Kataang makes far more sense from a character perspective, Katara is the first person Aang see's after 100 years and she's the only one who can calm him down in the Avatar state so it's definitely deeper than just a crush. She definitely cares for him but doesn't realise how for a while, with her being the only one do defend Aang when her tribe want to send him away and Aang telling her he doesn't want to come between her and her family. He brings fun to her life that she mentions she hadn't had in a long time in the opening episode. The thought first dawns on her when Sokka mentions Aang being a powerful bender in 'The Fortuneteller' when the fortuneteller tells her she will marry a powerful bender. In 'avatar state' she mentions that she loves him (although it's not clear how) and then in 'The Cave of Two Lovers' she suggests they kiss, expressing she must have some kind of interest in him but isn't sure of her feelings, Aang largely squanders the opportunity but they come very close to kissing again (and possible do, it's unclear). After this I would feel it's unfair if Aang and Katara didn't get together simply due to a missed opportunity. Things get interesting in the last 2 episodes of book 2 when the Guru tells Aang he has to let go of Katara and Zuko makes a connection with her. I wonder if the writers flirted with the idea of Aang letting Katara to become a fully realised Avatar, giving up all romantic relationships to do so and Zuko getting together with Katara. This type of Zutara situation would be okay with me but only if they get together long after Aang letting Katara go, otherwise it feels like they are almost backstabbing Aang. I like that Zuko relapses to evil showing us that making changes isn't always a linear progression. Aang decides to let go of Katara in order to save her and the others and enters the Avatar state but this takes so much focus that he misses Azula's strike and is nearly killed. Katara instead of healing Zuko uses her special water to heal Aang, this seemed to me to be a big hint that she will choose Aang. In 'The Headband' they definitely have a moment when dancing and it's more romantic than when they go penguin sledding in the opening episode. During 'The Day of Black Sun' we see Aang develop into a true leader accepting his responsibility to fight Ozai and after kissing Katara she blushes. While this is somewhat cliche it's very well executed. I expected that to seal the deal for them but it didn't. When Zuko decides to join team Avatar Katara struggles to trust him, this journey is definitely personal but not necessarily romantic. During 'The Southern Raiders' Zuko helps Katara find the soldiers responsible for her mother's death, largely in an effort to earn her trust and Aang tells them revenge won't help. While I don't agree with Aangs 'never kill' philosophy, he was right about revenge not being right for Katara showing his growth and maturity. In 'The Ember Island Players' the show jokes about 'Zutara' and Aang is understandably jealous. After Katara tells Aang she is confused he kisses her and she reiterated (somewhat angrily that she is confused). This played well against the trope of a simple 'hero kisees the girl, hero gets the girl' and then finally after his battle with Ozai they kiss and get together permanently giving a satisfying conclusion to all they have been through together. Zuko and Katara would be the bad boy with the good girl which is no less of a trope than the hero gets the girl. Another reason people probably dislike Kataang is subconcious pejudice, Aang is younger and shorter than Katara which isn't commonly seen in tv relationships and so people find it strange but the series has been about going against stereotypes and showing support for discriminated groups and short males are definitely in that category. Zuko's relationship with Iroh was the one that developed him the most whereas for Aang and Katara was each other so Kataang simply felt like a far more fitting and appropriate conclusion to the much loved series in terms of relationships.
Saying Zuko and Katara getting together would be "Bad boy gets the girl" is an insult to how far both Zuko and Katara have come. She didn't "choose Aang" in the cave either. She never got the chance to use the water on Zuko as Aang and Iroh interrupted. And she had no choice afterwards when he was shot with lightning, so that argument makes no sense either. People also dislike Kataang because of his mature Katara was and how immature Aang was. Not to mention that its clear he isn't ready for any kind of relationship. Proof is in the Runaway episode. He promises her he won't scam again and goes off with Toph and Sokka and betrays her trust. Not to mention how he's kissed her TWICE without her consent. Not to mention their whole relationship is built off of Aang's immature crush on Katara, who never even SHOWS any feelings back to him. He doesn't even understand what she wants as we can see in "the Southern Raiders" episodes. Sure, violence is wrong, but she needed to go on that field trip. She obviously was troubled with losing her mom, and if she hadn't gone on that trip and followed Aang's advice she'd still be having trouble with the past.
Now i am little concerned wouldn’t mei and aang be sad because they broke up? Or do u guys want it to be that aang never was with aang and mei? I am confused help meee
What he means by deserved better is that katara was a key member of the group and respected by everyone for her bravery and leadership. Once she married and got with aang all she was known for being the avatars wife and reduced to having to take care of her three kids while aang got all the adventure and recognition. She was basically reduced to nothing and she didn’t deserve that. I think if she were with Zuko she could have helped a lot more people and wouldn’t have the burden to take care of three kids maybe 1 or 2 because the only reason she had 3 kids was to have an air bender. She wouldve also been a lot more happy with Zuko and been known for kore than being the avatars wife. In korra we saw that Zuko, toff, aang, and Sakka all got statues except katara and that’s just wrong how korra made her out to be. Her legacy was tarnished and she did deserve better.
but to be downgraded from an amazing and empathetic leader to ONLY the avatars wife??? the zutara we knew was passionate about helping other, and if she had the chance to be an ambassador she would gladly take it
Katara became known as "Aang's wife" and lost her personal identity. She allowed her first son to feel isolated and 2 out of 3 of their children grew up without their father. The katara we all know and love wouldn't have allowed any of this, The Legend of Korra backfired because of awkward ways they forced the pieces into their story and didn't allow the narrative to progress naturally. This is a prime example and unfortunately shows how the immaturity of the writers towards romance has effected the quality of the story.
@@themanlybeard9212 So much that they wanted me to stay with Aang and for what ???? That Katara is not the great teacher of water. The heroine who earned herself is more than a mother and healer. If the end of the last airbender was a shit, worse were the comics and korra
@@carmenrilo2049 I would really like to talk to you about this but I can't understand what you've written, I'm not trying to be a smart arse it's just the way you've written your reply makes no sense to me.
I don't think you guys understand what katara was to aang. If katara chose zuko it would change aang imagine if aang killed the fire lord and in doing so katara chooses zuko instead of aang. Then aang would not only lose his humanity he would lose his love and become evil.
I'm not tryna be rude but if we really look at the show they barely had any scenes together and aang and katara have been building since the first season. I think people say it was forced and rushed cause 1. There only looking at one season 2 .they dont care about anything but there ship, or 3. Cause we could have built off that boat kiss during the black sun episode and they really didn't talk about it a lot until the play ep and really that's it but this ship would have been rushed more than anything barely any scenes and I saw them more like friends but that's my opinion. I love kataang but the whole half of the third season kept them apart because of training that people were waiting to see what happened and they got a new ship but that one would have been way more rushed and out of nowhere and that's kinda how I feel.
Well he said in the video that IF katara had to be with someone, it simply makes more sense for their character development to be with zuko. This IF means that honestly, by the end of the show Katara SHOULD'VE been single. In another video he even talks about this. He said that zutara would make sense only if season 3 had 10 more episodes to further develop the relationship because like you said, if it didn't it would feel rushed.
I agree that they didn't have enough time together, but that doesn't mean Kataang should happen. I think it would have been great to just end the show with everyone single, but with some hint that in the time after the ending, more romantic feelings were blossoming between Zuko and Katara. This makes the most sense to me, as a lot of the moments that fans suggest as the moment they get together seem too early (such as kissing at the end of the fight with Azula, or when she forgives him). But if we cut out that last scene of Aang and Katara kissing, and instead show Zuko and Katara in the tea scene being closer, that would be enough to hint that they will be together later.
Well they have bean enemies for their whole life. I don't think there is a more perfect guy then him. He is the literally the Avatar. If he did not get married there would be no air nomads.

I don't think you're watching all his videos on the subject, he made a video about 6 months ago about how Zuko and Katara were much more than "dark and intriguing" as the creators claimed. First, points in favour of Zutara: 1) It might have been cool if Aang had given up Katara in order to let go of his attachments 2) They bond at the end of season 2 3) They both lost their mothers (for Zuko it's more complicated) 4) Katara is somewhat motherly to Aang earlier in the show 5) Zuko being in a relationship shows he is attractive despite having a burn on his face (although this was achieved with Mai anyway) 6) Hero gets the girl is a common trope abd while I don't mind it some consider it cliche. 7) Zuko takes lightning for Katara 8) The arc of Katara forgiving Zuko 9) SPOILER: In LOK we get the impression Katara did most of the parenting (more than her fair share) I haven't used the fire & water argument because some would call it cliche (in general I am fine with it) Now points for Kataang 1) While Aang always liked Katara, their relationship develop gradually and it was pretty clear she had feelings for him in the Cave of Two Lovers. 2) Katara is the only person who can calm Aang in the Avatar state and he often enters it to protect her 3) They definitely love each other and while Katara's feelings develop from friendships to genuine romantic love Aangs crush and loving friendship converge into romantic love. 4) Aang lost all his people and feels guilty so he can relate to Katara 5) Aang lost his people so it makes sense that Katara is the person he loved most and his greatest attachment to the world 6) While Katara is motherly to Aang their relationship changes a lot, Aang is often peace keeper between Katara and Toph in books 2 & 3 and from the day of black sun Aang is generally the leader of the group 7) I would have preferred the final Agni Kai not to have involvement Katara as Zuko would have defeated Azula and Katara would have been more useful elsewhere, instead she has to be an almost helpless victim for Zuko to save her 8) Zuko saving someone he DOESN'T have romantic feelings for says more about his character 9) Katara forgiving Zuko was just that, forgiveness doesn't always lead to romance 10) Represenation: Aang us younger and shorter than Katara which isn't common to see but this bias is probably why we see people say they find it strange 11) In The Southern Raiders Aang advices Katara not to take revenge which is good advice for her showing his wisdom and balancing Katara's firey personality 12) While Zuko and Katara are opposite in some ways they share negative traits like being hot headed, Aang balances that well 13) Katara doing most of the parenting is natural with the Avatar as her husband and it would probably have been the same with firelord Zuko 14) Aang teaches Katara how to actually have fun 15) While I am partial to Aang removing all Earthly ties he would need to have kids to prevent the extinction of the air nomads 16) Zuko betrays Katara in an interesting twist that shows us growth and redemption isn't always linear which I love but given this it would probably have taken me than a season to get to relationship stage. 18) Katara uses her special water to heal Aang not Zuko, this seems symbolic to me. 19) Katara believes in the Avatar before meeting him, then insists on helping him after she does meet him 20) Zutara would be the bad boy & good girl cliche which I do find a little annoying 21) Unless Katara and/ or Zuko became much calmer people they would probably have a toxic relationship full of fights 22) Katara always talks about hope and Aang actually brings hope as the Avatar, it's kind of poetic. 23) I actually liked that they aren't immediately together after their kiss on the invasion and how Aang tries to kiss her to 'unconfuse' Katara but it doesn't work. It shows kids that you can't force feelings but when he gives her more space she realizes she loves him. 24) There are a whole bunch of subtle cues for Kataang you can notice if you watch is again. 25) If Katara healed Zuko's scar he never would have accepted it as a part of him 26) While Zuko is a more morally ambiguous Aang's moral compass makes him a rock for Katara 27) They're canon, how much of this great series will you change to make Zutara make sense? 28) Hate to love isn't inherently better than friendship to love and while a love hate relationship can be interesting in reality it's usually not as robust. 29) The issue of Kataang being promised and if it weren't fulfilled it would fee like a betrayal of the story and the characters. I actually love the subtlety of Kataang with her belief in the Avatar in the first intro, her being the first person he see's, she helps him grieve his people, she is the first person to want to help him, he tells her he doesn't want to come between her and her family, he supports her wanting to learn from Paku, she mentions she loves him (altho I don't think evens she knows how exactly) in The Avatar State, she displays feelings for him in The Cave of Two Lovers, he chooses her over the avatar state, they definitely have a spark in 'The Headband', they kiss on The Day of Black Sun and Katara blushes and it seems like they would be together as Aang states in The Ember Island players, when Katara says she's confused he tries to make her like him by kissing her, this isn't malicious but is mistaken the fact that it doesn't work teaches kids you can't force these things and then finally when he gives her a bit more space she realises she loves him. 30) Aang teaches Katara far for more than Zuko 31) Katara blushes after the kiss during the day of black sun, she definitely does like him but wasn't sure yet In conclusion I think Kataang just makes far more sense, if they went down the road of Aang having to give up attachments I wouldn't have minded who Katara ended up with but she would have had to get with them after Aang made that decision otherwise it would feel wrong and it's unlikely that there would have been enough time. If Zutara had happened it would have had to be after Aang choosing to give Katara up and I doubt there would be enough time to develop the relationship, honestly though I wouldn't mind this storyline but Zuko and Katara wouldn't have been any better than any other random ship. Honestly, for every reason I can think of to ship Zutara I can think of at least 3 for Kataang. Overall, it just makes far more sense.
Yeah, because a one sided relationship built off a twelve year olds crush makes perfect sense. And Aang teaches Katara more than Zuko? Bro get real. If you mean teaching her how to lie, be irresponsible and selfish then yeah, I guess. Majority of your pints don't even make sense, lmao! And Katara and Zuko being toxic makes no sense (like majority of your argument lol). They've both come to respect and forgive each other. Fun fact, she forgave him for everything and he jumped in front of LIGHTNING for her. Number 20 is just stupid. Saying its a bad boy good girl relationship proves you don't know how far they come. Zuko isn't some bad boy, he was a confused and very complex kid, Katara was also complexed. 19 either. Any good friend would have trust, and what else was she supposed to do? Give up hope completely? Before she met him she didn't EVEN KNOW who the avatar was, so that makes no sense either. And being hotheaded? Bro get real. Have you not scene Maiko? That's far worse than them having fights. Every couple has them, and Kataang is no exception. Number 6 doesn't even give valid points, lmao. And you forgot "The ember island players" when he kissed her right after she said she was CONFUSED. And didn't Aang betray Katara? Y'all Kataangers keep forgetting the stuff that happened after the cave of lovers. After that, she didn't even show feelings for him, and the argument about she was jealous in "the headband" episode makes no sense either. Who wouldn't be jealous of a good friend having fun while you can't dance. And you can easily day the same about Toph with the "fun" thing. Toph encouraged her to go out there more, and she did. 31 also makes no sense. She could've blushed because she was flustered or embarrassed. 29 doesn't even make sense either. It's a childhood crush, for Pete's sake. Aang could've easily gotten over it. And the whole "hero gets the girl" thing is way overused. Her insisting on helping him is anything a good friend would do. And what is Katara? His baby making machine? Aang could've found some other girl and had kids with. It isn't that hard. And two is obviously because of the fact she cares for him like her brother, and even in one if the episodes she says herself he's just a good friend. Forgiveness doesn't always lead to romance, neither does friendships and crushes on your friend. And 13 doesn't make sense either. Katara has no need to mother Zuko while she does with Aang. He's a kid. She's always sheltered and protected him, in a way that no wife does to her husband. And saving someone doesnt mean he has feelings for them. But combine that with a whole lot of cues and moments in book 3 and you have a good reason to say he liked her. Just because she can relate to him doesn't mean they have to end up together. 5 doesn't even make sense. And your own points back fire to the whole 'their relationship changes overtime' thing. She's still constantly mothering him. Overall majority of your "arguments" make no sense. Also, if you had any common sense in math, you'd know that 9÷ 31 isn't three.
Zuko didn’t tell her to show mercy it was aang that told her to show mercy
I believe when aang told katara to choose forgiveness, it was for her soul, if she killed that man it would've done a number on her.
YESSSSSSSS THIISSSSS
@@Primetime6465 you missed the point of that sentence. It was to say that Zuko let her choose for herself what she wanted to do without pushing her to make one choice or another based on his values. He respected her agency.
When Katara and Zuko go after her mothers killer and Aang says that line about
"How do you think I felt when the sand benders stole appa" as if he just calmed himself down on his own and just forgave them. Yet when katara needed some catharsis he didn't want her to have it
Are we gonna ignore how he an Animal being taken away to a guy MURDERING Katara's mother tho? Cause I feel it needs to be talked about more...
@@no.5179 I don’t get why aang did not mention that his whole nation got slathered but anyway. Did he want revenge because of that no because I think aang is actually more mature than Katara in some cases I don’t really ship kataang or zutara cause I see both sides no side is definitively right
He also said "How do you feel when I found out the FN Destroyed my Air Nation people". Which is allot more than a mother or individual pet.
Another book :D
@@paigemackenzie722 No, Kataang wasn't even planned from the beginning. The original series outline didn't have Katara end up in a romantic relationship with anyone. Kataang was a later development. Go check out the I.P. Bible.
Who is bryke?
Men it's annoying me the sexism behind "the hero got the girl"
It was such a disservice to Katara
Carmen Rilo I feel like u haven’t watched the show
@@hotcheerios.
I like Zutara, but Toph & Aang wouldn’t work. Toph seems more like Aang’s rebellious little sister plus she is Aang’s teacher.
MathShinobi so true
One of the creators said themselves they were team Katang because they wanted the nice guy to get the girl 🙄
Agree!!
Avatar Aang deserves some water tribe puss leave em be.

Also, can we talk about how the guy compared an animal being taken away to a guy MURDERING Katara's mother?!
your zutara videos are seriously good and we definitely want more!
Edit: for those of you who think this video doesn’t really support ZuTara and is just anti KatAang, there’s a ZuTara
video on Joshua’s channel that focuses more on this ship.

Have a nice day ✌
Once again I’m not a kaataang or zutara shipper.
(It's the same with his affections)
And, c'mon, that final scene where he protects her.
Deviantart opened my eyes to the Zutara Ship way back when...and I’m forever grateful it did 🥰 Zutara Forever!
Zutara is the main reason I still go to DeviantArt
I'd like to point out in LOK, it is clearly highlighted that Aang only took part with Tenzin. Kya and Bumi both spoke about how Aang ignored them, leaving Katara to raise Kya and Bumi alone. Zuko was forced to raise Izumi. It wasn't ever confirmed who Izumi's mother is, but I'm assuming she left or died. These two played the parent figure in their children's lives and I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Zutara was canon.
I think we have our ship co-captain alongside Captain Dante
Overall Zutara would make the story more complex and add to the show's greatness.
LIKE OMG STOP FORGETING MAI
Hey I also sometimes wonder if zutara would’ve made a good couple and had a good family.
Because Aang is a avatar and his pretty busy saving the world. And # it brought his family and
later his grandchildren problems.
I thank you 🙏 very much. I also think, if you might’ve seen in Legend of Korra Toph meets the grandchildren,
even when though he was the Avatar, what kind of crazy 😜 things he did. And being the Kaaang, even the
family came to helping the world 🌎.
I meant when Toph meets the grandchildren of Aang the Avatar in Legend of Korra,
she tells them what kind person he was and how crazy 😜 he was.
Ship war so strong it’s lasted a decade
@@kiritorowan6889 its still going on.
I support this
I don't believe that airbenders will be completely wiped out if katara does'nt marry aang because:-

Can you make more avatar what if videos
Our Zutara captain
Kattra did want to be with zuko and that’s why I don’t ship them
Theyll probably fix katara and aang relationship making it much more defined in the ongoing comics that are still being created. (i still prefer zutara tho)
I agree, I honestly dont care if katara gets together with anyone. I would have have been completely fine if she did not get together.
I think I also have a few cool quotes
"When we are at our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change."
"Pride is not the opposite of shame but it's source, true humility is the only antidote to shame.
"I don't know if it's because i'm too weak to do it or if it's because I'm strong enough not to."
6:24 Bruh, the salt towards Aang too strong, can't even hide it. Make it seem like Aang made the Avatar job about being a celebrity, not a world ambassador. lol
Yes king! Preach!
Zutara forever.
Zutara forever!!!!

I love Zutara forever ther were the best couple😢
I think the only time she showed jealousy was at the dance. What early on part are you talking about?
MathShinobi, it was the episode when they met Suki, one of the Kyoshi warriors. She was irritated by all the girl attention Aang was getting / loving.
How little you know of women.
I know you didn’t just say Zuko loved Mai
You do know that the writers confirm that Zuko and Mai break up shortly after series end, right? Their relationship was pretty terrible.
Brigantia Blackbird bruh how little you know of women. I am a girl and this isn’t realistic, a girl like Katara would find him as a good best friend or a jerk for his past actions and would hold grudges. There is no chemistry between them because they’re allies and friends.

Kataangers just barge into zutarian vids and start bashing our ship and that’s how they come with the notion of kataang being more popular. Also zutara has more searches in instagram, Twitter and other forms of social media zutara dominates.

Zutara remains the most popular ship in ATLA, more popular than kataang, which is the second most popular. Zutara dominates fanfic searches, devianart, instagram, twitter. All kataang wins in is youtube, but that is only because it's only 90% of those that were just scenes of them together, so that is not really much of a win.

Mai is so mean to Zuko she is like one of this bruh girls XD
Mai is a toxic and one dimensional character. May I remind you they broke up THRICE. And if you think that's healthy, then I hope you never get into a bad relationship, because God knows you wouldn't know the difference between a healthy and unhealthy one.
kataang's chemistry is just like narusaku
Kataang is endgame and canon, but zutara is more popular. It is the most popular ship in Avatar, the Last Airbender.
Believing Katara deserved better than Aang is fine, but Zuko? Zuko did change for the better but not completely. I honestly think the best way for Zutara is during LOK. Aang died and Zuko has greatly matured past his toxic nature, at least from what I’ve seen.
Lovely video
Everytime I see a zutara video there alway that one person who says how zutara is the most toxic ship and saying how kataang is more better. Like people chill out we all have different opinions and we should respect each others opinions instread of saying that their an opinion is wrong. I'm not trying to say that kataang shipper are toxic I'm pretty sure there is toxic zutara shippers but I just think that shipping zutara isn't just nothing but toxic. (I'm probably going to get some dislikes on this one.)

THIS IS AN ESSAY, SO PLS FORGIVE ME 😂
This is just my analysis (and based on some reviews I've read) about Ember Island episode and why Aang kissed her (and yeah, that is wrong!).
Aang was basically humiliated in the play (even his masculinity) and he became very sensitive and insecure.
1. He was portrayed as a woman in the play (which was an insult for him).
2. "The Avatar? He is just like a brother to me" -Katara actor
That finale kiss is an indication for Katara that "finally the war is over and we can be together now."
So yeah.. Thanks for reading my essay 😂
Show less
Corona Time when did she ever yearn to just be gran gran and not a famous person like the rest of the group. That i am for certain u just made up.
@@heisenberg1681 When did she yearn to become popular and famous? I'm pretty sure you made that up. Also if you watched legend of korra she is literally the next generation's version of gran-gran. Btw if you watched avatar you would know that katara wouldn't let aang control her as she is very independent.
Bruh why though he already has a girlfriend
David Bakke who barely supports him
Don't even bring that awful character into this.
But maybe it’s too late to change anything.
Based on the fact that she is not a murderer.
they were afraid of dying in a cave tho 😂
And....
Braulio Sanchez so whats the point? aang chickened out in trying to express his feelings for her and that was the perfect time to. im not sayin zutara should happen but im saying kataang is awkward and lacks perspective from katara.
@@heisenberg1681 Yeah i agree they are akward and their love story is written poorly and thats my point why is it that after the episode of the two lovers nothing happened to be honest i would of loved seeing aang with another girl and see kataras reaction instead of him drooling for her through out the show, but also katara basically proposed ti him in that episode and he did nothing so i agree with you
Braulio Sanchez yes the romance katara showed was more situational, it was not something she deliberately tried to make happen.
Even though I totally ship kataang I believe their relationship came out of no where, and somehow feels absurd, katara was never shown to have feelings for aang what so ever, unlike the way how her crush on jet and zuko was obvious, the relationship feels forced,
However I think just because katara deserve a different love interest, it doesn't have to be zuko.
Because in the way aang was obsessed with katara, zuko wasn't at all.
But I believe katara will be better with aang.
I kind of have to disagree anxious to do it alone because it is his fault he ran away
Why are you blinking so much?
I always decided against shipping Zutara because I felt that Zuko and Mai were too perfect for one another.
I mean that kiss was put there to show that Katara wants a relationship and shes ready for one now. Plus it most likely ended that way because it wasn't really the end since there are the comics after it. I feel like a lot of people always based things off the show and completely forget about the comics, including you
Blehbl Blehbl the comics are terrible dude. They twist the character motivations to make it seem that kataang is a superior pairing.
I am here to say my opinion
The way everything happend in the shows is better by the way it is
Kataang is much better than Zutara
I still don't understand why the hell people ship zuko and katara

Honestly I see Aang way too immature, he gave way less, and just received. I don't recall any moment He was able to support Katara emotionally
I am not against Zutara but if it did happened who would Aang end up with?
Duuh Toph :))
He’s 12 bruh not every lead characters needs to be with some one to make it a happy ending look at toph
@@sahithmada9266 Exactly!
Sahith Mada also I am surprised that romance was really made a big thing considering Avatar is a kids show
Ocean Senpai for real, the show is about finding balance and I think zutara would fit into that unlike aangs middle school crush type shit.
So zuko and katara good aang and katara bad
Yess katara cant be with a bold kid
Now i am little concerned wouldn’t mei and aang be sad because they broke up? Or do u guys want it to be that aang never was with aang and mei? I am confused help meee
dEsErvEd better? What? She really had an amazing life......
@Celine Ida Schou but like, she wanted such a life with someone who loves her
Celine Ida Schou exactly
but to be downgraded from an amazing and empathetic leader to ONLY the avatars wife??? the zutara we knew was passionate about helping other, and if she had the chance to be an ambassador she would gladly take it
@@BVBsoldier01 yes! this is why Zutara is way better 😤
No no no ur soo so so wrong aang and katara are happy they were meant to be so ya
That's your opinion.
KATAANG!!
@@themanlybeard9212 So much that they wanted me to stay with Aang and for what ???? That Katara is not the great teacher of water. The heroine who earned herself is more than a mother and healer. If the end of the last airbender was a shit, worse were the comics and korra

I don't think you guys understand what katara was to aang. If katara chose zuko it would change aang imagine if aang killed the fire lord and in doing so katara chooses zuko instead of aang. Then aang would not only lose his humanity he would lose his love and become evil.

Who still ship angg and katara

She didnt 'choose' Zuko because he had a girlfriend :)
A toxic and one dimensional character who's practically emotionless, is selfish and has basically no personality. Fun fact, they broke up THRICE. :)
@@AhavaMath YES GOD just hinting at a FUTURE couple would've been amazing! I love how you think!!!!

You have us completely confused. I don't think you're a Zutarian, really. In your videos you do not give arguments in favor of the relationship Zuko and Zutara. I just think you don't like Kataang, but you also don't like zutara. You make Zutara videos for the fandom (which is more numerous) to see them, here you spend more than 9 minutes talking about Aang and Katara, and when you mention Zuko you say that it would be nice if they were friends ..... you contradict yourself
I don't think you're watching all his videos on the subject, he made a video about 6 months ago about how Zuko and Katara were much more than "dark and intriguing" as the creators claimed. It also doesn't matter if you're a fan of Zutara as long as you lay down the facts and your beliefs fairly and and avoid of personal bias as much as possible.
@@themanlybeard9212
For starters, I respect all personal opinions. But his approaches to this relationship are rather ambiguous, for me. The video you mention that Zuko and zutara are darker and more intriguing as the creators said .... well, without words ... mike and byrce are anti-zutara, in case you hadn't noticed, they see them as something dark ... and the relationship of Zuko and Mai look good to her ???. You have to have a very twisted view of life to see that Mai is what Zuko needs. Por favor.....
@@carmenrilo2049 Yes I agree with you, my point was exactly that the creators are anti Zutara and that's what he pointed out in that video. It just sounds to me you're not sure what "side" he's on when in reality that doesn't matter.
@@themanlybeard9212 "Why Katara Should Have Chosen Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender Theory - Zutara)"

Disgusting and biased analysis. Completely butchers Aang’s and Katara’s individual development.

@@no.5179 Aang and Katara only had a 99 year age gap but Zu Zu and her had 3 whole years! (Also they were both dating other people and didn’t like each other romanticly).
@@doglord8000 technically 2 years. Katara was 14 and zuko was 16.
Okay so for the shipping. First, points in favour of Zutara:
1) It might have been cool if Aang had given up Katara in order to let go of his attachments
2) They bond at the end of season 2
3) They both lost their mothers (for Zuko it's more complicated)
4) Katara is somewhat motherly to Aang earlier in the show
5) Zuko being in a relationship shows he is attractive despite having a burn on his face (although this was achieved with Mai anyway)
6) Hero gets the girl is a common trope abd while I don't mind it some consider it cliche.
7) Zuko takes lightning for Katara
8) The arc of Katara forgiving Zuko
9) SPOILER: In LOK we get the impression Katara did most of the parenting (more than her fair share)
I haven't used the fire & water argument because some would call it cliche (in general I am fine with it)
Now points for Kataang
1) While Aang always liked Katara, their relationship develop gradually and it was pretty clear she had feelings for him in the Cave of Two Lovers.
2) Katara is the only person who can calm Aang in the Avatar state and he often enters it to protect her
3) They definitely love each other and while Katara's feelings develop from friendships to genuine romantic love Aangs crush and loving friendship converge into romantic love.
4) Aang lost all his people and feels guilty so he can relate to Katara
5) Aang lost his people so it makes sense that Katara is the person he loved most and his greatest attachment to the world
6) While Katara is motherly to Aang their relationship changes a lot, Aang is often peace keeper between Katara and Toph in books 2 & 3 and from the day of black sun Aang is generally the leader of the group
7) I would have preferred the final Agni Kai not to have involvement Katara as Zuko would have defeated Azula and Katara would have been more useful elsewhere, instead she has to be an almost helpless victim for Zuko to save her
8) Zuko saving someone he DOESN'T have romantic feelings for says more about his character
9) Katara forgiving Zuko was just that, forgiveness doesn't always lead to romance
10) Represenation: Aang us younger and shorter than Katara which isn't common to see
but this bias is probably why we see people say they find it strange
11) In The Southern Raiders Aang advices Katara not to take revenge which is good advice for her showing his wisdom and balancing Katara's firey personality
12) While Zuko and Katara are opposite in some ways they share negative traits like being hot headed, Aang balances that well
13) Katara doing most of the parenting is natural with the Avatar as her husband and it would probably have been the same with firelord Zuko
14) Aang teaches Katara how to actually have fun
15) While I am partial to Aang removing all Earthly ties he would need to have kids to prevent the extinction of the air nomads
16) Zuko betrays Katara in an interesting twist that shows us growth and redemption isn't always linear which I love but given this it would probably have taken me than a season to get to relationship stage.
18) Katara uses her special water to heal Aang not Zuko, this seems symbolic to me.
19) Katara believes in the Avatar before meeting him, then insists on helping him after she does meet him
20) Zutara would be the bad boy & good girl cliche which I do find a little annoying
21) Unless Katara and/ or Zuko became much calmer people they would probably have a toxic relationship full of fights
22) Katara always talks about hope and Aang actually brings hope as the Avatar, it's kind of poetic.
25) If Katara healed Zuko's scar he never would have accepted it as a part of him
26) While Zuko is a more morally ambiguous Aang's moral compass makes him a rock for Katara
27) They're canon, how much of this great series will you change to make Zutara make sense?
30) Aang teaches Katara far for more than Zuko
31) Katara blushes after the kiss during the day of black sun, she definitely does like him but wasn't sure yet
In conclusion I think Kataang just makes far more sense, if they went down the road of Aang having to give up attachments I wouldn't have minded who Katara ended up with but she would have had to get with them after Aang made that decision otherwise it would feel wrong and it's unlikely that there would have been enough time.
