This is a classic example of the writers unwilling to give up what they had in mind from the beginning. It was so clear that Katara and Zuko should have been together and we see them get closer and closer in the last episodes while Aang and Katara get further apart. Then all of a sudden Katara is like into simp lords and doesn't go with Zuko.
Actually a lot of people on the writing team (and storyboard, animation, voice acting, and advertising teams) were leaning toward Zutara. The main hang ups that ultimately got Kataang pushed forward were the show's co creators (who according to some sources didn't *actually* decide on Kataang until around book 2, and then gaslit everyone into believing it was their plan all along) and some Nickelodeon executives
He has his well-supported reasons to do that. As much as I have been treasuring Zutara ever since I was a teenager. Nowadays, as an adult, I love it for more profound reasons thanks to his videos. :)
The whole point of the Avatar was peace between the nations, and Zuko and Katara being from different nations could cause the separation of the water tribe and fire nation to lessen. There's also a lot about things like ying and yang, fire and water, life and death, good and evil. Zuko and Katara would help each other greatly, Katara would help him with his trauma from his father and he could help her with her trauma from her mother's death.
I totally agree 👍.I've tried analysing this whole Zutara thing but seriously 😒 they never liked each other and for me they are not a good pair, they just had the same experiences which made them understand each other more especially with their conflicting inner self, other than that I see nothing 🤨. Like they say "like charges repel while unlike charges attract 😊."
As much as I agree with much of this, I disagree with your opinion on Aang's choice not to kill Ozai. I don't see it as Aang being a petulant child who refuses to see other people's opinions. As someone with a strong faith that dictates the way I make decisions...I find his decision to end things the way his upbringing has instilled a very inspiring thing. It felt much less like stubborness and much more like someone who knows who they are and the type of world they want to help shape.
Many weeks ago, I thought I saw a voting debate from twitter of the netlflix adaptation on whether to let Zutara happen or Kataang happen, Kataang managed to be on top but I've heard that Netflix is a Zutara supporter. With Bryke out of the way means Netflix is now in charge and so Zutara might be a guarantee anyway. This leaves with a huge problem. Aang and Zuko's kids and how they influence the show. Who will Aang marry? Before I get to that I want to theorize how Katara and Zuko's relationship could impact the world and what the kids might look like. Katara may actually be the first waterbending fire lady after marrying Zuko but I doubt she'll completely forsake her old homeland. The water tribe and the fire nation may not be very happy with the relationship at first but their relationship would be a powerful symbol of true coexistence. Katara might inspire women to both heal and fight in battle and teach men to also heal as well as fight. Completely eliminating the gender-specific classification divisions that plagued her culture. and after learning that fire can bring life as well as destruction, she and Zuko inspire the fire nation to use fire for healing purposes as well as combat as well. Katara would have four statues of herself. One in north pole, south pole the fire nation and republic city. Soon she'd be known as: Katara the revolutionary, Katara the war hero, Katara, the greatest waterbender in the world. She might still ban bloodbending from republic city. Zuko and Katara may have just one kid. Izumi might more or less be the same, just with water tribe blood and the first fire lady of opposite ancestry. She may or may not have a rough childhood, either way she proves to be a wise and successful fire lord like in the original timeline. It was seen from animation that Katara and Zuko still live as elders so they should be able to grow old together and Katara still joins the white lotus. Now as for Aang's new partner. The first person that comes in my mind for Aang to marry is Azula. AFTER she has a MASSIVE, MOVING AND CONVINCING character development that has to be handled with extreme care before anyone, Azula included, should even consider letting Azula be with literally anyone. I want to make that clear. And I expect Zuko to be the guiding hand for her. I don't expect it to be quick and easy. I want Azula to be as stubborn to Zuko as Zuko was too Iroh. I expect the Azulaang relationship build up to be longer and far more complicated then the build up of Zutara. I imagine Azula would have a near-crippling fear of her relationship with Aang for she doesn't want to repeat the dynamic between Ursa and Ozai and doesn't want to be left alone again but Aang would remind her how much she's changed, how she was not like her father as everyone first thought, insisted that she deserves to be loved and quotes Iroh about perfection and power being overrated and that it's wise to choose happiness and love. Azula should still have her persuasion skills and should persuade Aang to embrace the firebender ideologies more often, becomes less naïve and timid and more charismatic and strategic. Azula might still be attracted to power and since Aang's the avatar and that Aang gets taller and looks more physically fit as he gets older. It's almost a no brainer on that department. As for the kids themselves, Bumi and Tenzin might remain the same while Aang's daughter has the most change, her personality and orientation can stay the same but she's now a firebender, has fire nation features and is named after Azula and Zuko's mother, Ursa. Just like how she was named after Katara and Sokka's mother, Kya in the original timeline. The family dynamic might be different. Azula wants to love everyone in her family equally and wants everyone in the family to love each other equally and will not stand for any favoritism for she experienced first hand what favoritism did to her old family and to her own mind. I doubt Azula will be sidelined or want to be sidelined just to care for the kids while Aang tries to restore the balance alone but he and Azula take turns doing both those things. Azula understanding the four nations, the four elements, and the seven chakras has helped her become whole in a way she never imagined before and is the most superior firebender in the world and in the history of firebenders. She may still act like an ambitious nutball but in a fun way. I also see her being funnier then Sokka and snarkier then Toph. It would be Azula's idea to create republic city in the earth kingdom as a way to atone for her former desire to fry the the whole earth kingdom. She and Zuko would be given glory for breaking free from their tragic past with the help of loved ones and serve as examples of one of this quote said by Iroh: "While it is always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing." If they can be saved. anyone can. and since Kataang and Maiko are able to stay together. I don't see why Zutara and Azulaang shouldn't. Overall, there would be major changes to Korra's timeline but the primary arcs for each season of Korra should still play out similarly.
Morrison Scott hmm I really like this interpretation! To be honest, at first when you suggested that Azula should be Aang’s partner, I was a bit skeptical and surprised. I never in a million years would think Azula should be Aang’s partner. I would’ve thought an air acolyte or something, but after reading your explanation, I completely agree with you! I think this would’ve make the show much better!
Nice man i like this insight 👌👏🏼 .... zuko and katara would actually revolutionize the new world as examples . And i agree Katara is such a strong character she would be a great fire lady . She wouldn’t like zuko’s partner . She would be his equal.
This is ultimately what Zutara shippers are saying. We're not saying that Kataang isn't a good ship (most of us anyway), or that Katara and Aang wouldn't be happy with each other, just that Zutara is a better ship and that they would be happier with each other. It goes much better with their characters and their story arcs. And had she ended up with Zuko, she could have done so much more with her life, and for the world. We saw that those are the kinds of things she wants to do, but instead, because she ended up with Aang, she ended up as a housewife and a baby maker whose husband is constantly away while she's stuck with the kids, and becomes most known for being a healer (the negative stereotype of the Water tribes), and is the only one who doesn't get a statue. Zutara has so much more potential, both more the characters and for their lives together. Yes, Aang and Katara were happy together, but Zuko and Katara would have been much happier with each other, and could have made so much more of their lives. They also wouldn't have had a lot of the problems that the Kataang family had. We learned and saw for ourselves in LoK that Aang was constantly called away from his family for Avatar duties, and when he was around, he showed open favoritism for Tenzin while pressuring him with his Air Nomad hopes and dreams while neglecting his other two kids, resulting in their family becoming very dysfunctional and their kids becoming bitter and resentful of Aang and each other, and Katara never did anything to stop any of this. And it can all stem from how mismatched Aang and Katara were as a couple, likely in part to Aang being so childish and always doing things his way, and Katara always mothering him and just wanting him to be happy. People can love each other and still not be right for each other. Zuko and Katara wouldn't have had these problems and work so much better together by challenging each other, making each other a better person, standing more equal to each other, and calling the other out when necessary, and understand and relate to each other much better. Not to mention what they could have done for the world together. Katara especially. We saw the kind of person she's like and what she wants to do with her life (helping people and making the world a better place), and ending up as the neglected house wife of a dysfunctional family where she has to take care of 3 kids resentful of each other and their father who is never around doesn't exactly fall into that category. Sure, she and Aang were happy, but she would have been happier with Zuko, and he happier with her.
After the war conflicts died down and she no longer had to fight which takes a burden off of everyone (including the whole team avatar) since they were just child soldiers. Katara finally getting the chance to lay back for once is EXACTLY what she needed since she had to grow up too quickly. In a book called Legacy she even loves her life and says how much shes in love with Aang because he helps her calm down her stress and helps her have fun and feel joy. This is why Aang was perfect for her despite their many flaws. Katara ending up as a healer is logical and her settling down to have a familh is EXACTLY what she would do. She would want to spend as much time with her kids because of what happened to her own mother. Also idk where you guys are getting this but NO ONE refers to Katara as "The Avatars wife" like literally no one. Shes known as one if the kids who helped stop the war. Shes one of the greatest healers and waterbenders in the world. Shes with the white lotus and swore to help train and protect the next Avatar. She helped ban bloodbending. Even if she didnt get recognized by many people, she still stayed true to herself up until the end because recognition and fame isnt what makes someone a true hero. Also later on in LOK all three of their kids says that they were a happy family. They had their ups and downs like every family they werent perfect like you want them to be.
@@blehblblehbl7535 You're misinterpreting the argument. First, no one ever said that they weren't happy. Just that she would be happier and better off with Zuko. Also, despite the claim that their family was happy in LoK, the actions, behaviors, and conversations between the 3 siblings clearly show that their family (at the very least between the siblings and with their father) wasn't as happy as it was made out to be. Happy sure, but extremely dysfunctional and suffering from a lot of problems that wouldn't have occured had Katara ended up with Zuko, and from what Aang seems to be the cause of. This can be traced back to Katara and Aang being mismatched. Two people can love each other and be happy together and still not be right for each other. A lot of the problems their family had wouldn't have occured if they had both ended up with someone better and more suitable. Yes, all families have problems, but not in that way or at that level. And they wouldn't have occured had she been with someone like Zuko, because it was really Aang that was the problem, and because of how her relationship with Aang was and worked, these problems happened. Also, no one is saying that Kataang isnt a good ship. It's a good one with a lot of good qualities. Like Aang helping Katara to relax and have fun more, that's a great quality. However, Katara would get so much more out of being with Zuko, and we saw that for ourselves. Zuko knows and understands Katara and can relate to her in a way Aang doesn't and can't comprehend. Aang has a bit of a false image of her and is convinced that things are the way he sees them rather than how they are. Zuko and Katara however help each and and make each other better in ways that Aang simply doesn't. Part of this is evident in how little Katara grows and evolves as a person while with Aang throughout the series, especially compared to how much she grows and evolves with Zuko. And yeah, the war was over and everyone gets a chance to relax and de-stress, but to completely lay back is not Katara's nature. She herself as a person wants to and enjoys helping others and doing what she can for the world. And sure she helps out here and there where she can after marrying Aang and having a bunch of kids, but it's not the same as what she really could have done had she ended up with Zuko. As Fire Lady, she could have done so much more, and in ways that are more suitable with her character. Instead, she became a stay at home mom to 3 kids that, lets be honest, she probably only ended up having to bring an Airbender into the world. Not saying that she regrets having any if them, but you cant deny that as the wife of the last Airbender it was her duty to give birth to more. And again, she's best known for her healing more than anything. This just doesn't go with her character, even after the war ended, and it's like the show's writers just changed her to make her fit the role she ended up in. If you can watch ATLA and tell me that the life Katara wanted for herself was to end up as a common housewife to a whole bunch of kids she had to keep popping out to produce another Airbender while her husband was always away and she could only help out other people in small ways because she was so busy with housewife duties and gets so little recognition that she doesn't even get a statue like the rest of the GAang and is most known for being a good healer, then you are lying. But again, this isnt saying that Katada wasnt happy or that Kataang is a bad ship, just that Zutara is a better ship for many reasons with a lot more potential (for the characters themselves and as a ship) and she would have been happier and better off with Zuko, and he with her. Also, Aang would have been better off with someone else too. Katara could have and would have gotten everything you said from Zuko and more, and in better ways too.
Blehbl Blehbl but its not like aang had any arguments with katara or trying to understand who she is. most, if not all of their interactions remain positive. what lesson are you to take from doing things your way and not listening to other peoples opinions and getting things correctly? the show is stating that oh its ok to do things your way. but the arguments zuko and katara had were ones that help better each other as people. now i do believe that they were given less time to develop their relationship, but kataang just involves a friendship into lovers. and its not like their relationship would have lasted long term. aang never had a single argument with latara for the sake of understanding her, he just straight up neglected his family to perform his jobs as the avatar and this caused resentment. with zuko, katara would have more freedom to chart her own course and make her own story, and yes katara did gain recognition, but nowhere near half the recognition like aang or the others.
@@heisenberg1681 Also, having arguments prove nothing. It's well-known phrase those your fight with the most are those you love the most (not in all cases mind you), and that's because you're comfortable and at ease with them the most, and you feelings for them trump any resentment the arguments bring forth. And for that matter, what arguments did Zuko and Katara really have once he earned her trust after joining the team, even before she forgave him really. And with Aang, he never really had his opinions, thoughts, or feelings challenged, not by Katara, as she was always so focused on trying to keep him happy because she knows how sensitive he is. I'm sorry to say it, but that is NOT healthy for a relationship, and it's likely a big part of why they're family ended up so dysfunctional, a lot in part of how bad Aang was being as a father, and Katara never called him out on it because she just wanted him to be happy all the time. People need to be challenged, as that's a big part of how they grow as people, but since Aang and his ways were never really challenged, it's likely why he maintained his childishness throughout adulthood. What more, if a couple doesn't argue or have disagreements, how are you ever going to know the relationship will last without conflict? And yes, their relationship is the friends to lovers trope, but they never really showed it. Yeah, Aang had a crush on Katara, and as the series progressed, he got more pushy with his feelings for her, but we never really see anything on Katara's end. There relation was primarily mother/son and brother/sister throughout the series. Sure, every now and then they threw in a Kataang moment, as if to remind us that it's a thing (such as their dance together), but with the way their relationship was the whole time prior to these moments, it feels forced and out of place. What more, they're never addressed, and their relationship goes right back to the brother/sister and mother/son way it was before those moments once again until the next random moment. Now, if they wanted to end the series without them getting together, but then revealed in LoK that they did during the time jump, that would be a completely different story, but to say that the ATLA was they're relationship going from friends to lovers, I'm sorry, but it's not really there aside from a few random out of place moments that changed nothing between them, which is why it feels so forced (something the series producer even admitted), like it happened just because the writers wanted it to. This is in contrast to Zuko and Katara's relationship that did have growth, development, and affected them both, and the moments between them did impact their relationship and was addressed and constant. Add in the chemistry, the deliberate Zutara moments the writers threw in to appease the fans, and the fact that their relationship is written the way many modern romances are written, it not only makes sense that more people are drawn to Zutara, but from a storytelling standpoint, Zutara was the one that should have happened, and it only didn't because the writers had their hearts set on Kataang from the beginning and refused to budge on it.
Viewer Online101 yeah exactly. im not exactly rooting for them to get together though cuz they had less time to develop it but i agree it had far more potential. i do find kataang less appealing though.
I totally agree, but I think it would've helped your argument if you'd mentioned what happens to Katara in the comics and Legend of Korra. Maybe it could be in a future video? One of the main reason I refuse to watch LOK is EXACTLY because of what they did to Katara. Forgotten, living alone at the South Pole, with no statues to commemorate her and being referred to as "the Avatar's wife and mother of modern airbenders" before being called a war hero. By herself. She's the "best healer in the world", supposedly, but in ATLA she never wanted to be a healer, she literally said "I don't want to heal, I want to fight". And the end of the war wouldn't have changed that part of her, especially because of the gendered aspect of healing and fighting as perceived in waterbending, specifically in the North. I know people love her kids but... I think they squandered her potential by making her be with Aang. And I think it's so sad :(
Actually she didnt want to heal because they were literally in the middle of a war so they HAD to fight. Even if she didnt get recognized by many people, she still stayed true to herself up until the end because recognition and fame isnt what makes someone a true hero.
@@blehblblehbl7535 No, sorry. I can't get with that. Katara being the best healer in the world is AMAZING, but Katara is a waterbendeing prodigy. She picked up bloodbending without even having to learn it. She became a MASTER within a month. Her and Toph were easily the best benders on Team Avatar. Katara is fierce and a warrior. Her being reduced to JUST a healer (when the whole point of her character is to be both a healer and a fighter, two sides of a coin) was a waste. We love the soft, gentle side to Katara. But her marrying Aang at 20 and having Bumi at 22 when she should've been nowhere NEAR settling down was so out of character. Katara would have been mastering her element to its fullest capacity. And the fact that Aang, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph helped with Republic City and she didn't was bullshit because Katara would've been the FIRST to help found a city where the nations can live together in peace. Katara has said, in her own words, that she always feels a need to help people. So there is NO WAY in hell that she would sit back and let her friends do this. And the fact that she doesn't have a damn statue when everyone else on Team Avatar does is disrespectful. She would've helped and it would've earned her a statue. Everything about Katara in the comics ruined her entire character arc in ATLA. I don't even ship Zutara, but how they handled Katara with Kataang was awful. As a Katara stan, I take offense
i completly agree with wht is said about how Aang cant understand the pain shes going thru. whn she says that shes going to find the guy Aang basically tries to "monk-afy" her saying how revenge is a two headed rat viper & tht its easy to do nothing but its hard to forgive & he completely misses the point of wht hes trying to say; "You're feeling uncontrolable pain & rage. How do you think I felt about the sandbenders when they stole Appa? How do you think I felt about the Fire Nation after I found out what happened to my people?" good point theres only one problem: HE HASNT FORGIVEN EITHER THE SANDBENDERS OR MOST OF THE FIRE NATION! hes the pot and kettle of his own argument making it null & void. yeah he's the Avatar but he's only 12! hes a goofy kid with a large burden tht he puts on the back burner until he HAS to do something even telling Avatar Yangchen that he's "always tried to solve my problems by being quick or clever & I've only had to use violence for necessary defense". while Zuko had lies about his Nation beatten into his head since birth Aang spent his first 12 years having it pounded in tht as an Air Nomad violence is nevr the answer & should nevr even b looked at. The Air Nomads as a ppl detach themselves from worldly concerns so Aang finds himself avoiding issues more thn facing them & since hes a kid thinks thts how evryone else shld b 2 thus limiting his understanding of wht others actually feel. it also feels quite insulting whn he tells Katara "That's okay because I forgive you. That give you any ideas?" it almost feels like hes mocking her while Zuko can relate 2 her perfectly since he lost Ursa. if u watch he's submissive 2 Katara thru the episode he knows this is not a trip whre he is leading like his trip w/Aang and evn his trip w/Sokka whre he used his inside info 2 help; with this 1 tho he knows he is only w/her to give direction protect if nessisery & not force her hand on wht 2 do insted letting her choose 4 herself wht 2 do giving her exactly wht she needs: closure. & yes he agrees tht violence wasnt the answer 4 Katara but also points out that if Aang DOESNT use violence he WONT defete Ozai. each of the past Avatars told Aang this but he is so stuck in his ways tht he grasps @ straws to find a diffrnt way evn Avatar Yangchen an Air Nomad tells him 2 grow up saying "selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs & do whatever it takes to protect the World." just bcaus Aang "never wanted to be" the Avatar doesnt mean he can ignore it bcaus it is who he is wethr he likes it or not his naturl avoidance nature means tht evn whn he does matur he will still b an Air Nomad 1st leaving little room for actual connections 2 bloom
Zutara foreverrrrrrr Don’t hate me but honestly i think they just made it Kataang because it’s nickelodeon . Like they wanna convey that hero gets the girl cliché. But really it is like you know cringe for me because i look at them with a sibling relationship. I grew up watching ATLA and honestly i really wanted katara and zuko because it would be a great political stand fire nation and water tribe, the understanding they have together , their character arc , zuko and mai may have been together by the series ending but in the comics post 100 war - they broke up because zuko keeps alot of things from her.....but in watching ATLA zuko was very open and pours everything to katara....welp, atleast there are fanficts about them and that might have happened post 100 yr war. Even in LOK , katara wasn’t even given justice :( i don’t know she’s like a great bender too same with zuko. They would have been a great pair :( .... Thank you for giving us this analysis to us..... and shipping this ..... i want to share more insights but i don’t know how to organize my thoughts .....
its always felt like Katara was simply a "prize" for Aang as he almost demands that she agree to being "the Avatar's girl" as showin in The Ember Island Players where whn Katara tells him that they r in the middle of a war and its not the right time and that shes confused he simply thinks he can solve it by planting one on her. Zuko and Katara have much more in common and r more compatible than she and Aang; they complement each other instead of one basically being chased by a 12 year old who just discovered puberty. i think we can all agree that Aang is usually pretty goofy and immature probably due to not having been through something as traumatic as having a mother slain in cold blood or having a father say his sister was born lucky and that he was lucky to b born. yes he lost all his ppl but he was not there for it it didnt happen in front of him therefore he doesnt have the ability to connect as strongly as Katara and Zuko do. Aang stopped the war by defeting Ozai but Zuko took a lightning strike to the chest to protect Katara. when told he would need help to defete Azula Zuko immediatly asks Katara so he must have a close relationship and connection to her to know she has his back and they can put their lives in each others hands confidently. if u watch the show again you'll notice that Katara is the ONLY person Zuko has willingly let touch his scar full on. the two times Mai touched it was just on the edge and Zuko pulled away from it however he let Katara place her hand almost completely on it within only a few hours of "chatting" and saying they had something in common. i wish we couldve seen more of their relationship flower instead of having it b pushed back so far before the end :( have a good day friends and never loose your White Lotus tile ;)
gary Wilhelm i feel like zutara would’ve been more forced than kataang, i mean at least kataang had some build up to it, zutara just kinda popped out of no where
Will DeMarco i don’t see the chemistry, them trying to kill eachother to lovers? i’m a zutara shipper too but like one agreement means there gonna fall in love? kataang was hinted from the start and was clearly endgame, even i saw that, zutara felt more forced because it was at the end of the series. kataan was paced throughout the entire series and had build up to it.
Itz Ashh! I personally think zutara had more chemistry than kataang even though they didn’t get as much scenes but that’s just my opinion. As a zutara shipper, I agree with zutara feeling forced. I think it would’ve been best if they all ended up single at the end of avatar. Personally, kataang and zutara both feel forced so I’d much rather prefer if they developed feelings later in the comics.
Nothing to do with being fanboys. It has to do with undestanding real psychology and storytelling and narrative structures. Kataang makes more sense from a writer's and also real life experience perspective.
I think Aang and Katara could have worked if it had shown more about how they learned from each other i.e. Katara learning to forgive people and Aang learning to take life more seriously. Also, Aang didn't listen to his friends or the other avatars when they said he should kill Ozai, but he did listen to the Tiger Turtles which are the closest thing this world has to actual gods, so I think this was meant to show that not compromising one's morals is the most cosmically justifiable decision.
I definitely agree with you 100 percent I think Zuko and Katara would be amazing together because unlike aang Zuko completely understands what has katara has been through because they both been through the same thing but in different ways! I mean I like aang a lot but he doesn’t belong with katara!
This video was from aWhile back but here’s my theory on what would happen if the fire nation was successful in Sozan’s comet 2 If I was I killed and everyone else would fail I don’t know how but they were with aang dead so quickly Ozai would wipe out the earth Kingdom With the air nomads wiped out in the first comment and the earth kingdom in the second it’s literally just part two of the Seige of the north
So the biggest criticism of Kataang is that she was like a mother to him and while there's an element of this, he also is often her protector with her cries often being the last thing he hears before entering the Avatar state. Age alone doesn't seem like much of an issue as Katara is 2 years older than Aang but Zuko is 2 years older than Katara (although the boy being older is more common). As Aang matures we see him become a leader and support Katara emotionally as much as she does him. Kataang makes far more sense from a character perspective, Katara is the first person Aang see's after 100 years and she's the only one who can calm him down in the Avatar state so it's definitely deeper than just a crush. She definitely cares for him but doesn't realise how for a while, with her being the only one do defend Aang when her tribe want to send him away and Aang telling her he doesn't want to come between her and her family. He brings fun to her life that she mentions she hadn't had in a long time in the opening episode. The thought first dawns on her when Sokka mentions Aang being a powerful bender in 'The Fortuneteller' when the fortuneteller tells her she will marry a powerful bender. In 'avatar state' she mentions that she loves him (although it's not clear how) and then in 'The Cave of Two Lovers' she suggests they kiss, expressing she must have some kind of interest in him but isn't sure of her feelings, Aang largely squanders the opportunity but they come very close to kissing again (and possible do, it's unclear). After this I would feel it's unfair if Aang and Katara didn't get together simply due to a missed opportunity. Things get interesting in the last 2 episodes of book 2 when the Guru tells Aang he has to let go of Katara and Zuko makes a connection with her. I wonder if the writers flirted with the idea of Aang letting Katara to become a fully realised Avatar, giving up all romantic relationships to do so and Zuko getting together with Katara. This type of Zutara situation would be okay with me but only if they get together long after Aang letting Katara go, otherwise it feels like they are almost backstabbing Aang. I like that Zuko relapses to evil showing us that making changes isn't always a linear progression. Aang decides to let go of Katara in order to save her and the others and enters the Avatar state but this takes so much focus that he misses Azula's strike and is nearly killed. Katara instead of healing Zuko uses her special water to heal Aang, this seemed to me to be a big hint that she will choose Aang. In 'The Headband' they definitely have a moment when dancing and it's more romantic than when they go penguin sledding in the opening episode. During 'The Day of Black Sun' we see Aang develop into a true leader accepting his responsibility to fight Ozai and after kissing Katara she blushes. While this is somewhat cliche it's very well executed. I expected that to seal the deal for them but it didn't. When Zuko decides to join team Avatar Katara struggles to trust him, this journey is definitely personal but not necessarily romantic. During 'The Southern Raiders' Zuko helps Katara find the soldiers responsible for her mother's death, largely in an effort to earn her trust and Aang tells them revenge won't help. While I don't agree with Aangs 'never kill' philosophy, he was right about revenge not being right for Katara showing his growth and maturity. In 'The Ember Island Players' the show jokes about 'Zutara' and Aang is understandably jealous. After Katara tells Aang she is confused he kisses her and she reiterated (somewhat angrily that she is confused). This played well against the trope of a simple 'hero kisees the girl, hero gets the girl' and then finally after his battle with Ozai they kiss and get together permanently giving a satisfying conclusion to all they have been through together. Zuko and Katara would be the bad boy with the good girl which is no less of a trope than the hero gets the girl. Another reason people probably dislike Kataang is subconcious pejudice, Aang is younger and shorter than Katara which isn't commonly seen in tv relationships and so people find it strange but the series has been about going against stereotypes and showing support for discriminated groups and short males are definitely in that category. Zuko's relationship with Iroh was the one that developed him the most whereas for Aang and Katara is was each other so Kataang simply felt like a far more fitting and appropriate conclusion to the much loved series in terms of relationships.
For Zuko and Katara to work they would have to calm down a lot or they would fight a lot due to their hot tempered firey personalities. Aang learns to give Katara space after the Ember Island episode, Zuko would let Katara indulge in her darker side but Aang's strong moral compass makes him a rock for her, his optimism balances her bitterness and he is willing to accept it- he is the one teaching Katara in that aspect. There's nothing wrong with someone sticking to their convictions if they were right all along, this point about the final fight is more of a criticism of how The Lion Turtle plays into the finale and tbh I can see both sides of it. Zuko wouldn't help with Katara's darkness he would indulge it, Aang's more positive views helps to balance her out
Zuko was the one who gave her the closure to face that man, not aang. And u may say, "Oh he accepts kataras feelings more than zuko." but aang never accepted his feelings in his first confrontation when she was about to leave on appa. The second time, he knew he made the wrong impression on her, so he just changes his mind immediately. Whether katara chooses revenge or not, it still helps her deal with the inner turmoil and revenge that was brewing in her. Zuko gave her the closure to deal with that grief, not aang. Aang basically thought his belief system was perfect and applicable, and never once were his ideals or beliefs questioned. The show goes in its way to say that aang is a perfect kid with no flaws. Aang made the selfish choice to choose love over power, and it was not even power, IT WAS THE FATE OF THE WHOLE WORLD that was at stake. Aang refusing to accept his burdens and responsibilities and instead choosing love is the wrong decision. Aang never went through the proper development to let go of earthly attachments, and they just use deus ex machina to make everything perfect, cuz aang wants the girl in the end. Zuko however, consistently questions his own beliefs and morals and has to develop and shape into a character different from the morally ambiguous, bratty teenager. Aang just never really learns anything from being in a relationship with katara, other than the idea that she's a pretty and attractive person and even then katara never showed any explicit feelings to him.
Okay so for the shipping. First, points in favour of Zutara: 1) It might have been cool if Aang had given up Katara in order to let go of his attachments 2) They bond at the end of season 2 3) They both lost their mothers (for Zuko it's more complicated) 4) Katara is somewhat motherly to Aang earlier in the show 5) Zuko being in a relationship shows he is attractive despite having a burn on his face (although this was achieved with Mai anyway) 6) Hero gets the girl is a common trope abd while I don't mind it some consider it cliche. 7) Zuko takes lightning for Katara The arc of Katara forgiving Zuko 9) SPOILER: In LOK we get the impression Katara did most of the parenting (more than her fair share) I haven't used the fire & water argument because some would call it cliche (in general I am fine with it) Now points for Kataang 1) While Aang always liked Katara, their relationship develop gradually and it was pretty clear she had feelings for him in the Cave of Two Lovers. 2) Katara is the only person who can calm Aang in the Avatar state and he often enters it to protect her 3) They definitely love each other and while Katara's feelings develop from friendships to genuine romantic love Aangs crush and loving friendship converge into romantic love. 4) Aang lost all his people and feels guilty so he can relate to Katara 5) Aang lost his people so it makes sense that Katara is the person he loved most and his greatest attachment to the world 6) While Katara is motherly to Aang their relationship changes a lot, Aang is often peace keeper between Katara and Toph in books 2 & 3 and from the day of black sun Aang is generally the leader of the group 7) I would have preferred the final Agni Kai not to have involvement Katara as Zuko would have defeated Azula and Katara would have been more useful elsewhere, instead she has to be an almost helpless victim for Zuko to save her Zuko saving someone he DOESN'T have romantic feelings for says more about his character 9) Katara forgiving Zuko was just that, forgiveness doesn't always lead to romance 10) Represenation: Aang us younger and shorter than Katara which isn't common to see but this bias is probably why we see people say they find it strange 11) In The Southern Raiders Aang advices Katara not to take revenge which is good advice for her showing his wisdom and balancing Katara's firey personality 12) While Zuko and Katara are opposite in some ways they share negative traits like being hot headed, Aang balances that well 13) Katara doing most of the parenting is natural with the Avatar as her husband and it would probably have been the same with firelord Zuko 14) Aang teaches Katara how to actually have fun 15) While I am partial to Aang removing all Earthly ties he would need to have kids to prevent the extinction of the air nomads 16) Zuko betrays Katara in an interesting twist that shows us growth and redemption isn't always linear which I love but given this it would probably have taken me than a season to get to relationship stage. 18) Katara uses her special water to heal Aang not Zuko, this seems symbolic to me. 19) Katara believes in the Avatar before meeting him, then insists on helping him after she does meet him 20) Zutara would be the bad boy & good girl cliche which I do find a little annoying 21) Unless Katara and/ or Zuko became much calmer people they would probably have a toxic relationship full of fights 22) Katara always talks about hope and Aang actually brings hope as the Avatar, it's kind of poetic. 23) I actually liked that they aren't immediately together after their kiss on the invasion and how Aang tries to kiss her to 'unconfuse' Katara but it doesn't work. It shows kids that you can't force feelings but when he gives her more space she realizes she loves him. 24) There are a whole bunch of subtle cues for Kataang you can notice if you watch is again. 25) If Katara healed Zuko's scar he never would have accepted it as a part of him 26) While Zuko is a more morally ambiguous Aang's moral compass makes him a rock for Katara 27) They're canon, how much of this great series will you change to make Zutara make sense? 28) Hate to love isn't inherently better than friendship to love and while a love hate relationship can be interesting in reality it's usually not as robust. 29) The issue of Kataang being promised and if it weren't fulfilled it would fee like a betrayal of the story and the characters. I actually love the subtlety of Kataang with her belief in the Avatar in the first intro, her being the first person he see's, she helps him grieve his people, she is the first person to want to help him, he tells her he doesn't want to come between her and her family, he supports her wanting to learn from Paku, she mentions she loves him (altho I don't think evens she knows how exactly) in The Avatar State, she displays feelings for him in The Cave of Two Lovers, he chooses her over the avatar state, they definitely have a spark in 'The Headband', they kiss on The Day of Black Sun and Katara blushes and it seems like they would be together as Aang states in The Ember Island players, when Katara says she's confused he tries to make her like him by kissing her, this isn't malicious but is mistaken the fact that it doesn't work teaches kids you can't force these things and then finally when he gives her a bit more space she realises she loves him. 30) Aang teaches Katara far for more than Zuko 31) Katara blushes after the kiss during the day of black sun, she definitely does like him but wasn't sure yet In conclusion I think Kataang just makes far more sense, if they went down the road of Aang having to give up attachments I wouldn't have minded who Katara ended up with but she would have had to get with them after Aang made that decision otherwise it would feel wrong and it's unlikely that there would have been enough time. If Zutara had happened it would have had to be after Aang choosing to give Katara up and I doubt there would be enough time to develop the relationship, honestly though I wouldn't mind this storyline but Zuko and Katara wouldn't have been any better than any other random ship. Honestly, for every reason I can think of to ship Zutara I can think of at least 3 for Kataang. Overall, it just makes far more sense.
First letting go of his attachments would mess up plot so their might be no zutara without it. 2nd aang also lost monk gyatso like a father to him and his whole race. In the comics his mother was under a different identity but the mother of a faces(a spirit) changes her appearance and identity back. 3rd Katara being motherly yet kissing a boy she knew for like a month sureee. 4th zuko would be attractive idk because I am a boy and mai liked him before the burn. 5th he would take lighting for anyone in the gaang and anyone would take it for each other. 5th that is what I dislike about LOK they make Aang like a bad parent when we know Aang would not do that obviously he is going to teach Tenzin the airbending ways but maybe they were a little jealous and they exaggerated his unfatherly character
Sperginator79 why do u always support aang in anything he does? he made mistakes in his journey to becoming a realized avatar. legit evidence coming from aangs kids, saying that he neglected and forgotten them. they dumped their frustrations on tenzin so much, tenzin got sick of it. this is how dysfunctional their family became. any problem aang has u kataangers deflect it. Zutarians at least point out a characters flaws to better them as people.
Sperginator79 the show has and we do accept zukos socially unacceptable side of him. zuko has changed from the sullen angry teenager to a kind empathetic character. here, aang idealizes her and gets everything he wants by doing things his way and the girl he loves accepts him. what lesson are you to take from that other than to do things your way all the time and that it is not ok to listen to others.
You say Aang doesn't really understand Katara, yet like Katara he has gone through a heavy loss. Losing the Air Nomads, his Culture being forgotten over time. Aang knows the pain and rage Katara feels, after going through that himself. Like back during the Southern Air Temple. He's not always a 'happy go lucky' person as you claim. In the Southern Raiders he runs over to Katara asking if she is ok. When he says that he's proud of her, he's saying that he's glad that she didn't allow her hatred to consume her. Also even though she states that she didn't forgive Yan Rha, Aang doesn't even argue that. He just smiles as he watches Katara walk away.
He smiles with the expectation and nagging that Katara should forgive her mother’s killer. No one is saying that Aang has not experienced loss, but Aang has not experienced loss in the same way Katara has. Aang did not see the air nomads’s genocide first hand, he didn’t see Monk Gyatso die. Katara on the other hand, found her mother immediately after her mother died. But it wasn’t Monk Gyatso’s death or the lost of his culture that he compares Katara’s grief to, it was the temporary loss of Appa. As much as Appa is important, he is not comparable to forever losing your mother, showing how much Aang doesn’t understand Katara’s perspective.
Earl Grey exactly. Losing a culture or civilization of people is different to losing a mother. Not the same thing. Zuko has experienced a similar loss like katara because his mother sacrificed herself to save zuko, just like kataras mother did for her. They can both connect their losses on a personal level. And monk gyatso is a friend of aang, not a parental figure. On the episode, “The Avatar and the Firelord”, when aang is on a spirit journey with roku, he sees that roku is a friend of monk gyatso. Aang says, “Wow. I cannot believe you were friends with monk gyatso, JUST LIKE I WAS.” This proves that monk gyatso is just a friend, and losing a friend is far different from losing a parental figure.
Varun Iyer I mean in many ways Monk Gyatso was like a parental figure for Aang. He went against the the other air nomads for telling Aang he was the avatar before he was ready, and willing to protect Aang like a parent would. It’s just unlike Zuko and Katara, Aang was not there to experience the loss in the moment. Another difference is that by the time Aang woke up, he had Katara to act as his guardian, making the experience of loss manageable. This is shown in Guru Pathik, when Aang was meditating on the heart chakra. In contrast, Katara immediately had to be the mother figure who had to take care of everyone else, and no one to do the same level of care towards her. I believe this is why she hasn’t let her mother go so easily, in comparison to Sokka. Sokka has a replacement mom in Katara, but Katara didn’t have a replacement mom, and while there was Gran Gran it seems pretty clear that she did not take on the role that Kya had in their lives. It’s not clear from the flashbacks in Zuko Alone if Uncle Iroh was present for Zuko after his mother disappeared, like he was throughout the show. Nonetheless Zuko experienced a loss similar to Katara, and the effects of that loss on their personal development are more similar to each other than it is for Aang and Katara.
@@greentea673 In truth, all three characters have experienced a great pain of loss, it's through that pain that they can understand each other. When Aang talks about losing Appa in The Southern Raiders he goes an extra step talking about how he felt about the Fire Nation killing his people. I want you to think about this for a sec: Zuko and Aang, the way they lost their loved ones was during a moment when they didn't have a chance to do anything for them. Aang was trapped in ice, powerless to help Gyatso and the Air Nomads, we see that he blames himself throughout the series in episodes like The Storm and The Guru. Zuko didn't have a chance to help his mother since everything happened so suddenly and without warning, it wasn't until the next morning when he found out his mother had disappeared. In both cases, neither character had a chance to do anything, while Katara did everything she could to help, it just wasn't enough. At this I have a question: What's worse? Doing everything you can to help the people you love, only to lose them in the end or being powerless, unable to do anything at all as your loved ones are lost? Aang and Zuko understand Katara's pain and hatred, it's through that understanding that they try to help her. With Zuko, he gives Katara a chance to take revenge on Yan Rha. Aang gives her a choice. He asks that she chooses to forgive him, to let go of hatred. Though he meant well, Zuko believes that Katara getting revenge is what she needs. However there's a difference between a 'Want' and a 'Need.' Katara wants revenge but that's not what she needs. As Aang says, Katara needed to face the man, however he asks that she doesn't choose revenge. Katara had to let go of her hatred, in order to truly begin healing and move forward from her past. By facing Yan Rha, Katara is able to face her past and makes the choice to not end the mans life. Sokka, Katara's brother, sides with Aang. Why do you believe this is? Sokka, the person who lost the same mother, the person who understands Katara's pain the best, believes that revenge is not the way. He even acknowledges Aang's wisdom despite his age. At the end of the episode Zuko states that Aang was correct about what Katara needed, violence wasn't the answer. Both Zuko and Aang understood Katara's desire for revenge, Aang understood what Katara needed. Revenge is a false sense of Satisfaction. It brings people to give in and be consumed by hatred, to take it out on those who have wronged them. Though they get revenge, the hatred and pain remains. Unable to be released, the vengeful become poisoned. Falling into a pit of despair and regret, with no hope of returning to the way they were before.
Shadow Ninja Katara suffered an actual injustice. Katara is having a normal response for someone who wants to correct that injustice. This injustice occurred specifically because her mother was trying to protect Katara, who was a water bender, not Sokka. Imagine irl, like what is happening with BLM. Imagine telling the families to just forgive the cops that murdered their loved ones. While obvs these families don’t want the cops killed, they want the cops to be appropriately punished. Being AtLAis a different universe, Katara is really just seeking a way to have justice served. Whether or not Katara was planning to kill Yon Rha, is was widely inappropriate for Aang to suggest the only way to get over it was to forgive him. As Avatar Kyoshi says, only justice will bring peace. Again, here is why Sokka and Katara’s level of grief is different. Besides the fact that Katara feels more guilt over her mother’s death, the process in which they were able to get over it was different. Katara immediately had to take on the role of being a mother figure. She was no longer the child to be taken care of. She feels the loss of Kya more this way. Sokka did not have to do this. In fact, he tells Toph that he doesn’t really remember his mother’s face anymore, he just thinks of Katara’s. Sokka is able to get over the lost of his mother easier, because he didn’t have to lose a mother figure in the process. He had Katara to take over Kya’s place in his life. There was no one like that for Katara. The problem with how Aang approach this issue that Katara had was that he wanted things on *his* terms. Instead of allowing Katara the freedom to resolve her grief and anger, Aang was the one most insistent on going with his solution. Zuko on the other hand, did not push a single resolution on Katara, he just helped her get there. Katara didn’t do what Aang completely wanted in the end, absolute forgiveness for her mother’s killer. What if killing Yon Rha was what got Katara passed her mother’s death and felt no guilt? Would Aang still be accepting of her? It’s irrelevant on who experienced more loss and suffering, All of their loss is valid, and their responses to that loss is equally as valid. Aang is able to get over it his own way, and a way that aligns with the philosophy of the air nomads, however he insists that everyone do the same, is the issue. It is even more jarring while Aang’s loss is equally or even more painful, it just fundamentally isn’t the same. Aang should have came to the understanding that his and Katara’s pain is different and use a different approach. Part of the Southern Raiders episode was also challenging Aang’s belief system, especially at the end when Zuko asked Aang if non violence is always a solution, what is he going to do with the Fire Lord. Unfortunately they went with the easy way out with a deus ex machina instead of letting Aang go through necessary character development.
Pov you see the whole show blind lol my favourite character is zuko but come on now is clear the zutara is the worst couple in the series the onky eho have the same is the backstory with aang is way better in everything moments dialogue romantic moments and katara say hoe much love aang people who say is babysitter no isnt lol aang save her and katara too kataang work together so much zuko dont have chance again aang in terms of couple with katara everyone just acceot that
Very biased opinion. I can honestly debunk all the points you made in this video with all the source material including the books and comics..Im disliking this video for being such poorly made.
@@cahlill2 It's just means there's a lot to say about this topic and that there are MANY points why it should have happened (and analyzing stuff is fun haha)
@Fsails Judging by your response, you are probably anti-Zutara. All I am just saying here is there are more reasons to support Zutara other than age distance and aesthetic. I have to admit that there are some Zutara fans out there who ship this pairing for those particular aspects, but there are a lot of people who ship this relationship not just for those shallow reasons.
Joshua is really driving the zutara ship
He has his well-supported reasons to do that. As much as I have been treasuring Zutara ever since I was a teenager. Nowadays, as an adult, I love it for more profound reasons thanks to his videos. :)
Him and Dante lol
you mean sinking
@@Spergy Not cool bruh
As he should👏🏼
The whole point of the Avatar was peace between the nations, and Zuko and Katara being from different nations could cause the separation of the water tribe and fire nation to lessen. There's also a lot about things like ying and yang, fire and water, life and death, good and evil. Zuko and Katara would help each other greatly, Katara would help him with his trauma from his father and he could help her with her trauma from her mother's death.
I once had a dream that Zuko and mai broke up and katara and aang break up and Zuko and katara starting dating and i wish that was true
Read fanfic. That's what I do.
What 😂lol kataang is absolutely better than zutara not even good couple 1 good reason only with aang chemistry is way better acceot that
I totally agree 👍.I've tried analysing this whole Zutara thing but seriously 😒 they never liked each other and for me they are not a good pair, they just had the same experiences which made them understand each other more especially with their conflicting inner self, other than that I see nothing 🤨. Like they say "like charges repel while unlike charges attract 😊."
More Zutara pls.
YEEEEEESSSS!!!! ZUTARA FOREVER!!! 🌊🔥❤️
Your videos are wonderful, thank you for giving us the amazing Zutara content we need
ZUTARA NOW ! ZUTARA FOREVER !
isn’t zutara non canon tho?
@@papas_ash yeah, but we still ship it lol
Zutara foreverrrr
Zutara never
As much as I agree with much of this, I disagree with your opinion on Aang's choice not to kill Ozai.
And if he did kill Ozai that would be the wrong way to end the war. Like Iroh said it would just be seen as more death and cause more conflicts
well, good thing for aang that ozai accidentally engaged the avatar state during the fight..
Overall, there would be major changes to Korra's timeline but the primary arcs for each season of Korra should still play out similarly.
too long, didn’t read
Morrison Scott hmm I really like this interpretation! To be honest, at first when you suggested that Azula should be Aang’s partner, I was a bit skeptical and surprised. I never in a million years would think Azula should be Aang’s partner. I would’ve thought an air acolyte or something, but after reading your explanation, I completely agree with you! I think this would’ve make the show much better!
Ok
Nice man i like this insight 👌👏🏼 .... zuko and katara would actually revolutionize the new world as examples . And i agree Katara is such a strong character she would be a great fire lady . She wouldn’t like zuko’s partner . She would be his equal.
Netflix isnt a Zutara shipper and idk where u got that from 💀💀💀
This is ultimately what Zutara shippers are saying.
@@blehblblehbl7535
You're misinterpreting the argument.
@@heisenberg1681
Also, having arguments prove nothing.
Even if she didnt get recognized by many people, she still stayed true to herself up until the end because recognition and fame isnt what makes someone a true hero.
Toph said"Now I know why Katara didn't intervene in the civil war she would hurt her back too much" or something like that
@@blehblblehbl7535 No, sorry.
Yeah, Katara was great but they just ruined her to Aang's feelings wouldn't get hurt.
Perfect analysis
i completly agree with wht is said about how Aang cant understand the pain shes going thru. whn she says that shes going to find the guy Aang basically tries to "monk-afy" her saying how revenge is a two headed rat viper & tht its easy to do nothing but its hard to forgive & he completely misses the point of wht hes trying to say; "You're feeling uncontrolable pain & rage.
Do you think in the live action avatar they would have zutara or more of it?
Zutara foreverrrrrrr
Don’t hate me but honestly i think they just made it Kataang because it’s nickelodeon .
Aang stopped the war by defeting Ozai but Zuko took a lightning strike to the chest to protect Katara. when told he would need help to defete Azula Zuko immediatly asks Katara so he must have a close relationship and connection to her to know she has his back and they can put their lives in each others hands confidently. if u watch the show again you'll notice that Katara is the ONLY person Zuko has willingly let touch his scar full on. the two times Mai touched it was just on the edge and Zuko pulled away from it however he let Katara place her hand almost completely on it within only a few hours of "chatting" and saying they had something in common. i wish we couldve seen more of their relationship flower instead of having it b pushed back so far before the end :(
have a good day friends and never loose your White Lotus tile ;)
listening you in the backround is like asmr.
Kataang Fanboys is going to come after you.
gary Wilhelm i feel like zutara would’ve been more forced than kataang, i mean at least kataang had some build up to it, zutara just kinda popped out of no where
Will DeMarco i don’t see the chemistry, them trying to kill eachother to lovers? i’m a zutara shipper too but like one agreement means there gonna fall in love? kataang was hinted from the start and was clearly endgame, even i saw that, zutara felt more forced because it was at the end of the series. kataan was paced throughout the entire series and had build up to it.
@@papas_ash The alternate Zutara ending didn't have them kissing
Great vid
In real life zuko would end up with katara .anga is way too nice
agreed evn Sokka says he's "always the optimist"
I think Aang and Katara could have worked if it had shown more about how they learned from each other i.e. Katara learning to forgive people and Aang learning to take life more seriously.
Also, Aang didn't listen to his friends or the other avatars when they said he should kill Ozai, but he did listen to the Tiger Turtles which are the closest thing this world has to actual gods, so I think this was meant to show that not compromising one's morals is the most cosmically justifiable decision.
Dude you're amazing!
This is amazing!! 😘
I definitely agree with you 100 percent I think Zuko and Katara would be amazing together because unlike aang Zuko completely understands what has katara has been through because they both been through the same thing but in different ways! I mean I like aang a lot but he doesn’t belong with katara!
Great Video...
Zutara is lust.
You forgot in episode 3 aang sees his nation get kill by firebenders
he doesnt see it he was never there by the time the Air Nomads were attacked and wiped out he and Appa were frozen in that block of ice
Do Jin and Zuko shipping please.
Aang just never really learns anything from being in a relationship with katara, other than the idea that she's a pretty and attractive person and even then katara never showed any explicit feelings to him.
can we get a vid on azulaang, it’s kind of a weird ship but I could see it if zutara happened
Seconding this, this sounds super interesting and Azulaang has always been one of my favorite crackier ships for the series.
Aang is the best for Katara 🌊🌪
🌊+🌪=⛈
Not exactly a good match 😂.
Thunder strong 💪 tho ⛈ 😂
Wait...a Kataanger not throwing death threats at me on a Zutara video? WTF I'M NOT USED TO THIS
Okay so for the shipping. First, points in favour of Zutara:
1) It might have been cool if Aang had given up Katara in order to let go of his attachments
2) They bond at the end of season 2
3) They both lost their mothers (for Zuko it's more complicated)
4) Katara is somewhat motherly to Aang earlier in the show
5) Zuko being in a relationship shows he is attractive despite having a burn on his face (although this was achieved with Mai anyway)
6) Hero gets the girl is a common trope abd while I don't mind it some consider it cliche.
7) Zuko takes lightning for Katara
The arc of Katara forgiving Zuko
9) SPOILER: In LOK we get the impression Katara did most of the parenting (more than her fair share)
I haven't used the fire & water argument because some would call it cliche (in general I am fine with it)
Now points for Kataang
1) While Aang always liked Katara, their relationship develop gradually and it was pretty clear she had feelings for him in the Cave of Two Lovers.
2) Katara is the only person who can calm Aang in the Avatar state and he often enters it to protect her
3) They definitely love each other and while Katara's feelings develop from friendships to genuine romantic love Aangs crush and loving friendship converge into romantic love.
4) Aang lost all his people and feels guilty so he can relate to Katara
5) Aang lost his people so it makes sense that Katara is the person he loved most and his greatest attachment to the world
6) While Katara is motherly to Aang their relationship changes a lot, Aang is often peace keeper between Katara and Toph in books 2 & 3 and from the day of black sun Aang is generally the leader of the group
7) I would have preferred the final Agni Kai not to have involvement Katara as Zuko would have defeated Azula and Katara would have been more useful elsewhere, instead she has to be an almost helpless victim for Zuko to save her
Zuko saving someone he DOESN'T have romantic feelings for says more about his character
9) Katara forgiving Zuko was just that, forgiveness doesn't always lead to romance
10) Represenation: Aang us younger and shorter than Katara which isn't common to see
but this bias is probably why we see people say they find it strange
11) In The Southern Raiders Aang advices Katara not to take revenge which is good advice for her showing his wisdom and balancing Katara's firey personality
12) While Zuko and Katara are opposite in some ways they share negative traits like being hot headed, Aang balances that well
13) Katara doing most of the parenting is natural with the Avatar as her husband and it would probably have been the same with firelord Zuko
14) Aang teaches Katara how to actually have fun
15) While I am partial to Aang removing all Earthly ties he would need to have kids to prevent the extinction of the air nomads
16) Zuko betrays Katara in an interesting twist that shows us growth and redemption isn't always linear which I love but given this it would probably have taken me than a season to get to relationship stage.
18) Katara uses her special water to heal Aang not Zuko, this seems symbolic to me.
19) Katara believes in the Avatar before meeting him, then insists on helping him after she does meet him
20) Zutara would be the bad boy & good girl cliche which I do find a little annoying
21) Unless Katara and/ or Zuko became much calmer people they would probably have a toxic relationship full of fights
22) Katara always talks about hope and Aang actually brings hope as the Avatar, it's kind of poetic.
25) If Katara healed Zuko's scar he never would have accepted it as a part of him
26) While Zuko is a more morally ambiguous Aang's moral compass makes him a rock for Katara
27) They're canon, how much of this great series will you change to make Zutara make sense?
30) Aang teaches Katara far for more than Zuko
31) Katara blushes after the kiss during the day of black sun, she definitely does like him but wasn't sure yet
In conclusion I think Kataang just makes far more sense, if they went down the road of Aang having to give up attachments I wouldn't have minded who Katara ended up with but she would have had to get with them after Aang made that decision otherwise it would feel wrong and it's unlikely that there would have been enough time.
AvatarLover101 they don’t point out flaws of zuko like he burned villages and threw a man because he was jealous of Mai
AvatarLover101 also LoK is like trash and we no Aang would not neglect his family
Haha this might happen in the Netflix remake
Pov you see the whole show blind lol my favourite character is zuko but come on now is clear the zutara is the worst couple in the series the onky eho have the same is the backstory with aang is way better in everything moments dialogue romantic moments and katara say hoe much love aang people who say is babysitter no isnt lol aang save her and katara too kataang work together so much zuko dont have chance again aang in terms of couple with katara everyone just acceot that
Blah blah blah. Enough of this lame shit.
no ❤️
Very biased opinion. I can honestly debunk all the points you made in this video with all the source material including the books and comics..Im disliking this video for being such poorly made.
how is his opinion biased?
Wtf. Duh his video is biased, he's making a point. This is his opinion
ok...so y comment?
All opinions are biased by nature.
People only ship it because the ages are closer between Zuko and katara
No? Did you even watch the video?
His 20 other videos regarding Zutara says otherwise 🗿
Sailor Eden the fact that someone has to make 20 videos to get a point around means it probably shouldn’t happen
Biased Opinion.
Don't like the content. Leave. Now.
IL1EKP1E totally agree, and i’m a zutara fan!
Agreed
It's an opinion. Fucking DUH it's biased
