If I'm not mistaken, Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16 years old. I love that you are reacting to Jackson Browne. He is one of my favorite singers/songwriters. I listened to him a lot in the 70's when I was a teenager.
I think he was a bit older (These Days was written when he was 16), but was young enough to have attained some real wisdom anyway. I've always loved his lyrics - he always has something to say and manages to do it in a highly personal, yet universal way. Looking forward to more reactions to his songs - it's a deep and rewarding rabbit hole.
Yes, Dr. My Eyes was written when Jackson was a bit older but still young for such mature lyrics. Jackson had an old soul. These Days was written at 16. It's another awesome song, Dr. My Eyes broke into the pop music arena and was the first song that most of us even heard of Jackson Browne. Saturate Before Using was his first album.
He definitely had an old soul, as someone else mentioned. His lyrics are truthful and deep, and still applies today. I grew up listening to his music among others from that era and earlier. Thank you so much for continuing to react to his music, Saeed.love and hugs to you and your family. ❤️🫂😊
I got to see Jackson and James Taylor in concert last year. Top notch songwriters, singers, and musicians. So glad I got to see them as they were both a part of the soundtrack of my life. It will be a sad day when they are no longer here. When you get listeners get to know their music we know their legacy will live on.
Jackson Browne us one of many reasons I wanted to become a songwriter. I'm 73 now and about 3 years younger than him. No wonder he became one of artistic heros, along with Kris Kristofferson (who also loved the metaphor "walking contradiction"), John Prine, and many others. This is my second reaction of yours I've heard and I enjoy your insights!
I love how deep you are! I love how you dissect and interpret lyrics. You are a very introspective kind of person. I like that! Not just with this song, but the others as well. Thank you!
That’s the exact reason I subscribed to Saeed’s YT channel. He’s a very deep thinker who knows what he’s talking about. He gets it. Every. Single. Time. The BEST RUclips reaction channel out there. Plus, he leaves each of his reaction videos with the best possible message you can. Peace✌🏻
Amazing that Jackson was just 24 years old when this song was published. He is a wise soul who has shared so many valuable insights with us. Thanks, Saeed, for bringing this wonderful song to the public's attention these 52 years later.
Yes. I am a poet who has been influenced more by lyricists than by other poets. Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Carole King, & James Taylor, these were the people that caused me to want to write about what I feel and see.
What a list of singers/songwriters!!! Wow! Makes me want to go and listen to my favorites. I grew up listening to all of the above and they are forever ingrained in my mind and written on my heart.
It can definitely be so overwhelming! I try to pay attention to the small joys in life as much as i can. It stacks up and acts as a counterweight. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Belgium.
I love the variety of old songs that you have reacted to lately. This is another one I liked when it was first released, but I had forgotten it. It still hits hard today as it did back then. I guess the human experience hasn't changed that much. That is why music speaks to us through the ages. Thanks for your insightful comments. Gail L.
This was his first hit song in 1972. What a great way to start. Jackson can express such profound thoughts with his beautiful poetry. I think he’s asking the metaphorical doctor to understand what he’s seen with his eyes. He’s seen “the evil and the good without hiding”, “was I unwise to leave them open for so long”. He’s “waiting to awaken from these dreams” to know the meaning of life that he hasn’t found yet. One thing about this song is its upbeat tempo that belies its serious message. The song’s tempo is like life speeding by before we can get its message. His songs are the ones that resonate withso many people, and ones that you'll listen to again and again. You’re not alone in your feelings; he gives you license to let out your emotions.
Hey, Belgien! One of my fourite artists from my first years of hearing music. A lot remembers..........thank you for this time-travel. I will hear me through his old records. Hamburg greetings, Britta
One of the best providers of great music, while being one of the nicest, relatable, real humans in music history.... And your reaction really says it... You get it!
I was born mid 1970s and I was rocking in the cradle to all these classic artists and songs. I am mind blown by the poetic lyricism that I grew up with. Then I had to ruin it by becoming a teenager and focusing more on commercialized music lol.
Another great singer/songwriter that I grew up listening to. I think sometimes Jackson Browne gets lost in the myriad of singer/songwriters from his time but he's definitely one of the greats. I LOVE the trip down memory lane that many of your reactions take me on.
Lol, I must be tired, I typed under replies instead of here..sheesh🤣..anyway, he definitely has an old soul, and you really get it. Thank you, Saeed for continuing to react to him. Much love and hugs to you and your family. ❤️🫂😊
That happens to me as well 😄. My daughter was up all night with a tummy ache and some extra sleep will be needed 😄 I also recorded a reaction to These Days and that should be uploaded sometime this week or weekend. Thanks again for this request! Much love to you and your family ❤️
Thank you! Love this music! You should check him out singing this on Austin City Limits (2022) at the age of 74. He's still rocking and still has a great voice.
Hey Saeed--I only recently found your channel and I have been enjoying your reactions and interpretations of these great old songs. I don't see any Paul Simon on your channel--maybe because you know most of his songs already? However, if not, one in particular I'd love for you to react to is called Slip Slidin' Away. Take care!
Saeed, I’m really enjoying your Jackson Brown reactions. One tip from me would be to listen for any time he used the words sky, dream, sand, or road (journey, destination etc). The major theme of his best songs is this: we dream of the infinite or the ideal, but we live in the earthly reality. What compromises must we make. Are we headed in the right direction?
Saeed, you say that you like story songs. The gunfighter ballads of Marty Robbins(El Paso, Big Iron and others), or the Kingston Trio(especially "Tom Dooley"). I don't know if you've reacted to either of those artists, but their ballads are very good!
Reaction or not, you should really see the Playing for Change version, on which he is featured. Also, check out, A Little Soon to Say, which he recorded a maybe three or four years ago. Still writing great stuff
I know you like story-telling songs. Travis Tritt Trilogy features 3 videos telling the story of disabled vet Mac and wife Annie. Consists of 3 beautiful songs.
This was his first album and he'd become a famous insider for a couple of years as the acoustic/wooden music scene fell on LA out of the San Franc psychedelic bands. The popularity of festivals was harkening smaller picnic-grounds to be weekend music venues, no need for tens of thousands - a 3000-4000 person crowd was pretty huge. And it still is. But that sphere was picking up speed and so many artists that started that ride were being thrown off by sheer momentum. Jackson followed this up with a superior album, FOR EVERYMAN with nary a dull lick. JAMAICA SAY YOU WILL is the other popular song off of this SATURATE BEFORE USING 1st album. Astute readers will start noticing the session musicians listed, and then as the '70s wore on, they kept seeing eight or ten familiar names popping up. Some of those still do - Russ Kunkel... Leland Sklar... to name two.
In the title there seems to be no comma , i checked on a few sites after I recorded this video. But in the lyrics there id a comma. So i took it that he goes to the doctor to talk about his eyes (literally and metaphorically) also uses Doctor my eyes. As in "to doctor". Its a triple entendre
"Was I unwise to leave them open for so long" remains one of my favourite lines in all of music.
Gets me on every level. 🍄🌌
🖖🏼🧑🏽⚕️🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Nobody can deliver a profound message with a rockin' beat better than Jackson.
If I'm not mistaken, Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16 years old. I love that you are reacting to Jackson Browne. He is one of my favorite singers/songwriters. I listened to him a lot in the 70's when I was a teenager.
Wow! I know he wrote These Days at 16 which is also incredible!

Jackson Browne’s lyrics are the soul of the 70s

Running on empty is one of my favorite jackson brown's song

I have only heard a few of his songs, but they really made a big impression on me. Amazing. Thanks so much for watching and the kind words.
I keep thinking i dont know the Jackson Browne songs . Then you play it and i start sunging along. He's in my brain and i just dont know it
That happens to me at times during reactions 😄
The great Leyland Skylar on bass. The late Jesse "Indian" Ed Davis on Guitar.
I was going to mention Lee.
This was the first song i ever heard from him, been a fan ever since.
Great song!

@@jwayne7400 Yes!!!! He would definitely love that one!
Today’s date in 1977 was when Load Out/Stay was recorded live for the album Running on Empty
Amazing record!
Jackson was 16 when he wrote this. At sixteen, I wasn't even thinking of these things.
Such intelligence. Those lyrics are even more applicable today; the evil can be overwhelming. TX Saeed. Greetings from South Africa
It can definitely be so overwhelming! I try to pay attention to the small joys in life as much as i can. It stacks up and acts as a counterweight.

A great reaction to one of my all- time favorite artists. Thank you.
Another profound poet with lyrics.
So good!

Check out Playing for Change with Jackson's Dr. My Eyes ❤ 🔥
One of the most enjoyable concerts I ever attended.
In the '70s, I had a T-shirt with that album cover on and I wore it threadbare!!!❤❤
