Add me to the others who commented on your "custom car jack" sled rest. It makes way too much good sense and I'm going to make one just like it. Very good practical video, enjoyed it!
Nice shooting and comparison. Going to have to try that some day to see if it makes a difference with my reloads. Also, your home-made sled using the car jack is brilliant!
Well done vid! IT's another in the steps to accuracy. Before you know about sorting cases you think you done everything to re-load, then it's removing runout from the completed round on a fixture, or adding filler to get the cases full and even burn, coating the bullet noses, neck sizing, crimp or not....and on and on....but it keeps me outta trouble she sais! Interesting test. I'm shooting the Berger classic Hunter 168g .020 off lands with 44.0g varget. Hope to get those same nice results you got. Looking for a good consistent load that shoots around 2650-2750 fps.
SouthernExposure Yeah I stuck with .5 groups for 5 years using 41.9 varget with same bullet but I was running 2590-2600 an started to see a drop in hit ratio pass 750 yards. When I'm out of these 168's I will step up to the 175's. But that may not happen for quite some time since I have a lot of them Berger 168's still.
hey man I started doing that long time ago with my 06 the outcome was very a like that ,only was using 180gr gkng ,prepared cases like for target shooting before weight selecting ,its reducing vertical too
I just sorted my 223 brass to 90.x 91.x 92.x 93.x 94.x and will fire them one by one. I didn't sort by headstamp but they are probably 80% LC of various batches. I would think if external dimensions are the same then if they brass weighs the same then the internal volume should be pretty darn close but anyone please let me know if I'm way off. I keep reading posts where people say weight doesn't mean anything. Yes it might not but if you are weighing within 1.0gr I would think that would be good. My question would be sorting by weight versus matching headstamp, which is going to yield more consistency?
My thoughts and experiences reflect that headstamps do make a difference. Brass of the same weight from different headstamps could have vastly different internal capacity and wall thickness. My suggestion would be to sort by headstamps first then by weight. Develop your loads based on each brass manufacturer and weight. Watch for signs of overpressure when developing your load.
mkay0502 The load I am using I worked up to checking for signs of pressure as I went and you should as well. This works in my rifle but may not in yours so be careful. I use 43 grains of Varget with a 175 gr Sierra Match King over a CCI primer. My seating depth is .015 off the lands. So be careful and start below that powder weight watching your brass for signs of pressure. Be careful and have fun. Thanks for watching.
Any problems with your scope rings on the bases setup like that?? Mine are setup.the same on my 110 hog hunter from the gunsmith everyone recommended a one piece rail.
I sort in all possible manner for Service Rifle Competition and NRA Long-Range Competition: bullets, powder, and cases plus completed round. Cases are weighed after neck trimming and partial neck turning. Does it work? Yes, it helped me to earn US Distinguished Rifleman Badge and American High Power Rifleman Award in Long-Range. I do not go to extreme massaging of hand loads used in 200 yard standing and sitting events.
The blue dot you are shooting look to be the size of a nickle, that's excellent shooting can you give me your bullet & powder formula? and ill try it on my.
cordelmar I currently shoot 175 gr SMK over 43 grains of Varget over CCI primers. As with all loads you should start at least 10% lower and work up a little at a time to see how your rifle and brass tolerate the load looking for signs of high pressure as you go. Be safe and thanks for watching. I hope the weather and time cooperates soon so I can get out and go through and re-verify my load development.
Richard I would disagree with that approach. By alternating between sorted and unsorted taking one shot each there is less likely to be any influence that would favor one group over the other. Both groups would be shot at same cleanliness, same temperature, etc etc so neither would have any perceived advantage or difference from the other. Thanks for watching.
try cutting out dairy and gluten in your diet........it might help your allergies. Also.......people recommend working your power charges up (same bullet) in small increments no more than 0.5 grains in amount to find the best 'node' for your rifle/ammo combination.
Two thumbs up for the car jack

I used car jack, eons ago, 'till I got proper
G-rests.!!!

Enjoyed your presentation. Really like the car jack idea!

em Burgess hi, you are probably close with that combination. My 175 SMK goes around 2550-2580

Makes all the difference, my groups are under 1/2"with the 165gr sst, using +/- 2gr difference in brass weight. That's match brass but not lapua.
Where can a feller get one of those precision rifle rest? Brilliant!
Very good vid and a touch of genius on car jack rack I'm going to copy you on that

Excellent shooting sir! I’m running the same gun and scope, would you possibly be willing to share the load data you’re using?

Scissor Jack = Genius. TY sir
good day sir,did this at any means improved your extreme spread and SD or didn't you check it
Any problems with your scope rings on the bases setup like that?? Mine are setup.the same on my 110 hog hunter from the gunsmith everyone recommended a one piece rail.
I’ve had both type of rails on this rifle with no problem. If they are of good quality and mounted correctly they should be fine.
@@southernexposure1205 appreciate the quick response ..I'm running the weaver tactical 6 hole rings and the leupold mk4 bases
What brass are you using? Thanks for the video. Gonna start sorting my shit out
Davey SickBoy I primarily use Federal and Winchester but I keep them separate. Thanks for watching.

I'm glad it works for you! It seems to help me as well especially since I don't have the budget for Lapua brass and Berger components.....
the wind may have been a factor as well
4:55 that sucks. I've done that.
thanks for posting you helped a lot

Thank you, ill try to load that wen i can get a chance.
Try the test without sorting, just trimming the necks to the same thickness.
JB Trimming the necks was already part of my brass prep so the sorting was added afterwards. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching
I can't take that setup serious 😂
Love the rest
dcbaisden Velosity1 nothing but the best..... ;-)
What is your load & bullet ??
to be a fair comparison you need to fire 5 unsorted clean the barrel let the barrel cool down and then fire 5 sorted

I agree with you SothernExposure. Alternating is the most fair comparison.
BOTH.!!!
Nice Shooting. Gonna cool down expect some company
trextrextrex come on....bring what ya got
Lead sled and strapped down, more consistent results, helps eliminate you!!
I agree. I accept donations. 😉

Yeah I have gone keto and my allergies are much better
