    I had to move away from my original medicinal plant nursery over 20 years ago. All these years, through many moves across three states, I have treasured your books, Richo. I started a Lemon Verbena business in Zone 8 in TX and sold leaves to an award-winning tea shop in Dallas. Now I am back in Zone 5 b and planting my beloved shade medicinals again. Thank you for making this video for me. Yes! for me and others like me. I have been your customer since the 80s. May we all grow our shade medicinals in peace.

    Such a calming and thoughtful video, thank you. This statement really resonated with me: 12:25 “You can gain their influence by just sitting with them, you don’t necessarily need to ingest them.”

      yes, there is an Ayurvedic adage that says something like "even the air that passes over these herbs is medicinal"

    I just bought some medicinal seeds and your Growing Plant Medicine Vol 1 book! I have purchased seeds in years past from various herb shops, so it was nice to buy them directly from you. Thank you for all your work! 🙂

      Hi Samantha, Thanks for getting the seeds and the book. This is an investment in all of our future. I hope you will also invest in "Growing Plant Medicine Vol 2" which completes the herbal. Yes, it is best to buy directly from Strictly Medicinal Seeds as shipping is free on books. Richo

    I ordered 6 goldenseal roots last fall and want to let you know that 5 came up this spring in spite of the most snow in 30 yrs here in Utah. They are planted in the shade of Oregon grape which is shaded by an English walnut
    I was not at all certain they'd do well here and I imagined that you must cringe a little to ship plants to borderline grow zones. So I want to let you know so far so good.

    Hi Richo, I would really love to do a shade garden like this but in my woods we have an over abundance of poison ivy. Any suggestions with getting rid of it. I have a nice patch of Solomons seal I would love to incorporate other shade medicinals. Thanks so much for your knowledge!

    • @StrictlyMedicinalLLC
      @StrictlyMedicinalLLC  Год назад +3

      Well, if its really really bad you can choose your desired bed area and lay down cardboard as a weed barrier against the poison ivy, then cover with sand, coir and compost and plant your goldenseal in that. Bring it back from the edges just in case the poison ivy starts to creep in! Richo

      I gave the link to our "growing goldenseal" video here below. You can get a ton of info on growing, harvesting and using goldenseal in my various books. There's a whole chapter on it in "Growing At-Risk." The plants we send are already quite mature. You can harvest them after a year, or after 2 or 3 years if you want better yield. Basically the acid test is if the plant flowers it is mature, and then you can dig the root after it senesces in the fall. Richo

    Dear Richo, What are your thoughts on food forest mixed with healing plants such as herbs? You know these days food forest become popular. Can you please share your view on this? Thank you!

    • @StrictlyMedicinalLLC
      @StrictlyMedicinalLLC  Год назад +2

      hey janos, This is really the way to go. Goldenseal grows just as well under apples as it does under oaks. Shade is shade. There are dual-purpose edible-medicinal trees like cherries that have cherries if you can beat the birds to them and cherry bark that is a reliable antitussive, richo

      @@StrictlyMedicinalLLC Thank you Richo! One more thing. For those who have no access to a shade-house. Is it necessary to have a shade-house or the forest would do the exactly the same function? Sorry Richo, I'm on the very beginning of this journey. Have a great day!

    • @StrictlyMedicinalLLC
      @StrictlyMedicinalLLC  Год назад +2

      @@janosszentpeteri1922 the shade house offers more control for seed starting of shade-dependent and long-germinating seeds. I recommend it for serious growers. However you can also make nursery beds in the shade garden or forest. Generally when this is done one shares the bounty with the forest creatures. richo

    Good stuff, watching them melt away within 48 hours felt so good, and yes, I used what I mentioned the other day. It actually took a bit more to make them totally disappear, I just go’ogled Melissa Thanderski and days after I still can't believe the comfort.
