Had I been doing weekly Sunday livestreams, this video would not have been possible as my day would have been taken up with planning the livestream (instead of being taken up with filming and editing a video!) :)
A feature that I think could be useful for waypoints is to add in the waypoints in AR, like they do for the home point, so when you are flying around trying to set up the waypoints you can see the previous waypoints in the sequence either as points (like the home point) or columns of light.
Excellent video! I haven’t really tried waypoints much.. I certainly didn’t know about adding a POI like that. I’ve got to try it now 😀 Thanks for doing this 👍 - Steve
Hey Robert! I would like to express my gratitude to you for showing this simple and easy to follow tutorial! I have tried Waypoints many times, but failed miserably until I watched yours! Thank you!
What I like about automating flights, is I can send the drone to take several shots at different angles and approaches to a point of interest then pick a favorite. Maybe a shot or angle will look better than the one I originally thought would.
Beautiful scenery, excellent editing, and a fantastic tutorial! I have tried this shot in the past and it is a fun mission to plan. As you probably know, missions are also great for setting up parallax shots. Looking forward to your next video. I haven't had much success planning a mission on the tiny screen of the RC 2 in advance. Thank you for continuing to share your passion with these flying cameras!
How about trying to use the spotlight feature for this? Since that always keeps the point of interest in the same position in the video, automatically adjusting to look at it (I believe it can change the gimbal angle and heading), wouldn't that be a good way of doing this without needing to set up waypoints and would allow more complex movements?
@@WindsweptRobertI went out to fly today (didn't use Waypoints, yet!) but having got home and looked at my timestamps, it looks like my Mini 4 Pro with the RC2 has dated my files 02/03/2024, rather than todays date of 01/03/2024. Looks like there's a wee bug that doesn't deal with leap years properly - just a heads up in case you or anyone else has that issue - check the date / time on the controller! 🙂 Update: it looks like having connected my controller to my wifi it has now ok, as I have the option "Use network-provided time" (which is the default option). Still doesn't fix my videos I did this morning! 🙄
Amazing. What I was thinking if you add another waypoint between and make the drone curve a little instead of going directly above the bridge. It will get more smoother. I dont know. I just learned it from you. I will try it on my own and will see. But thank you for this. Really helpful
Very nice interesting video Robert on waypoints, do you think it will ever be available for the mini 3 pro? , thanks for sharing on how to get great videos and ones that can be planned in the warmth of your home! 👍👍
You can use Waypoints with a mini 3 Pro if you have a RC-N1 controller and an android device. You can also use Waypoint missions with a mini 3 PRp if you re using a RC Pro controller and have Dronelink installed. ruclips.net/video/tbI33V4Xigg/видео.html
Since I started messing around with the waypoints on my Mav3, I am seriously considering getting a mini 4 Pro! I believe the OA is better on the Mini 3 Pro than the 4 Pro, but those DJI waypoints just tip the scales :)
Great video thanks. What I’m yet to fully understand on waypoint missions is how you can take videos and photos on the same mission? Or is it not possible without having separate video segments. I found when I tried one such mission , where I wanted to take one long video with a few snap shots along the way, it simply stopped the video recording as soon as it hit the first waypoint with a take a photo setting, and then did not re-start video recording immediately after snapping the photo, despite only having start recording set at first waypoint and having stop recording set on the last waypoint.
You'd have to add an additional waypoint (almost on top of each other) to get the drone to take a photo, and then start recording again. Do this for each point you want a photo along your flight :)
Great video an tutorial Robert. Sadly dont get the DJI waypoints for my Air 2s. So would have to look at 3rd party app. Great idea with adding the POI.
Nice example Robert, except you lost me on the part of setting the “1meter - above the bridge” part? So what did it do, drop 1m, didn’t seem like it? Could you please explain? Thanks
Adding a POI just sets the POI to the drone's location (where the drone was when the POI was set). I set the POI when the drone was directly over the bridge. To make sure that the gimbal would focus on the bridge, I had to set the height of the POI. I set that to 1m above the bridge. This way, the POI is set to the location of the bridge at a height of 1m above it (This is where the gimbal will point, not where the drone will fly)
This point would be easier to explain if you were not looking at the POI from above, but rather walking around it. Then it is more important at what height the camera is looking in order to have the POI in focus. Sorry für my english, it's not my native language.
Robert, can you advise which controller you have for your drones? The one in this video looks larger and a different colour from the DJI RC Controllers?
what is the legality of waypoints with a sub 249g drone? are you still the pilot? like self driving cars, what is the situation on line of sight if a nice blue man turns up.
Dear everybody. My company bought me a DJI Mini 3 with screen RC. I need to set up this new toys a predetermined path thus I can download all photos and videos together with the associated coordinates to be shown in Google earth to make a presentation to the VIP investors. Quite a challenge, right? My restrictions are: 1) can't request another new, more advanced drone. 2) can't use third party app like dronelink or litchi to establish waypoints flight. So, what kind of solutions available to achieve the task? Many thanks to all possible advices!!
Also worth noting was that you took off from the roof of your car, so everything is relative to that, so when you set the point of interest at 1 m, it was really setting it 1 m above the roof of your car, not 1 m off of the bridge.
What I'm most impressed with is your ability to shoot this video, get home, edit the whole thing and upload, all in the same day!

Glad it was helpful!
Well done Robert. You were able to take advantage of the nice weather to give us another informative and entertaining video. Thanks.
Cheers, Pete. I don't want to jinx it, but it looks like the weather is improving! :D
Two true miracles, a sunny day in Scotland, and a car that crossed Mansfield Bridge without rubbing the rail! Good on you!
Sunny, but cauld!
This is the best video about waypoints I've seen so far! Excited to receive my Air 3.
Thank you :)

Well done. Just been watching some videos on litchi you've done. I'll have to upgrade my drone lol
Remind me of what drone you're flying atm?

Could ye dae a waypoint feature on the mini 3 Pro Hyperlapse setting? ( I think that's the only way you can use waypoints on the mini 3 Pro ) 😉
I tried this a while ago but that method burns through the battery really fast and so I think it’s not a very good method
@@WindsweptRobert thank you for clarifying that and your quick reply, I appreciate it and now have a better understanding of how it works. 👍
I did mention this in the video, but my accent can often flummox people ;)

Still a long way behind the functionality of Litchi

@Windswept Robert. Are you aware if you fly one drone into another they will crash😂 Tried and tested on another channel 😮
