    ADDITIONAL INFO! - Hi all, Thanks to some wonderful people in the community I can now share with you some extra information. You CAN plan a waypoint mission without having the drone powered on. Here are the steps;
    1 - Power on the radio
    2 - Click on connection guide
    3 - Click on Camera view (Top right hand corner)
    Here you can then click on the map and waypoints button and plan a mission without having the drone powered on.
    Safe flying 😀

      When you download the map of the flight area into the controler, you can even do planing it without the drone turned on and without internet connection at the place of the flight.

    Another excellent video, and i love your detailed yet easy to understand approach. A couple of points which you didn't address: (1) the drone plans the mission using bezier curves. If you have some tight turns between your waypoints, the drone can actually "swing out" quite a bit, engaging obstacle avoidance. (2) If you are planning a mission including video and photos (i e. For a real estate shoot) , you need to have 3 different waypoints for each l photo : stop camera, take photo, start camera.

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT
      @JustinBainbridgeYT  5 месяцев назад +4

      Hey! Thanks for the additional info! Yes, I did see the drone swings out to make the turn smoother, I hadn't thought to describe it as a better curve, but it makes sense. Thanks for your kind words and for also helping the community with your knowledge 😃

    • @kevintimmons446
      @kevintimmons446 3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for this info.
      So to be clear, you can't just fly a mission on video and program the drone to take stills at certain points along the way too without stopping the video and then taking a still image?

    • @JeffreyJDavis
      @JeffreyJDavis 3 месяца назад

      @@kevintimmons446 just in the same way that you can't snap a photo while you are actively shooting a video in manual flight you cannot do it in a waypoint video So you have to set up either 3 separate start camera / stop camera / take picture waypoints for each shot. Depending on how many photo angles you have it is often easier to just run a video waypoint mission and a photo waypoint mission (or two laps in the same mission).

    Hi Justin, I just found your channel and I would like to say you are an excellent communicator. There is one channel, belonging to someone across the pond, who has an annoyingly high pitched, frenetic, seemingly drug fuelled, screech. I had to stop watching him after two to three minutes. His accent, was so annoying and combined with a delivery like a Gatling gun..no pauses just a constant stream of words. I posted a comment to ask him to slow down, and he replied telling me to turn the playback speed down! He has tens of thousands of subscribers too! You are a breath of fresh air. I hate to be unkind, but there are too many highly excitable, Americans running what are meant to be popular channels…….I guess it’s what you’re used to. Keep up the great works and thank you for making the video. I have subscribed!

Once it boots up tap the Connection Guide and you should see your drone model displayed. Instead of selecting the drone tap “Camera View” in the upper right hand corner. You can then select the waypoint icon and begin planning your flight. Sorry if someone else mentioned. I didn’t read all of the comments.

    Well done Justin, you did it again! As usual we get information that we do not find on other tutorials.
    All the questions I had were answered and then you brought to my attention some things I was not even aware of regarding waypoint missions. You go into so much details, it shows that you have done a LOT of homework and testing on your own before summarizing everything neatly for us.
    I had no idea that when using manual or custom for heading/tilt, the section of the mission that those applied to were not the same as for the default settings. I did a double-take when you said that and had to rewind the video to make sure I understood that as it seemed a bit weird. But yeah, sure enough, you found another DJI quirk.
    You also make some great points about negative altitudes. As a beginner, I had other troubles related to negative altitudes when trying to track friends snowboarding down a mountain. The M4P basically lost track of them very quickly because they were going downhill (I was at the top along with my Home Point). This could be the subject of another interesting video although it looks like you lack ski hills were you live 🙂(maybe downhill MTB tracks)! In the end, I had to take manual control to try to follow them best I could as they were snowboarding downhill (and into negative altitude territory!). It seems DJI developers are flat-landers and never had mountains in mind when they built their drones. Maybe this will change over time.
    The altitude limit versus the Home Point also does not also take into account the fact that you may be following the contour of a mountain uphill and break the altitude limit set in the drone while still being within the legally set altitude limit of your country of residence. A lot of details and quirky things that have been mentioned to DJI on their forums. It will be interesting to see how they respond to all the user comments over time.
    Anyway, thanks again for this great video and I hope your voice recovers soon!

      @JustinBainbridgeYT  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you very much! That really does mean a lot. I just want to make sure that I can give the best tutorial for whatever it is I'm talking about so I feel it necessary to fully explore and understand a features good, bad, and quirky points. A lot of research goes into making this happen. I don't see the point in just repackaging others' information. I'd rather find out myself and then give my own information. Yeah, negative altitudes is a strange one. I never thought about it also causing issues with tracking, but I can see how it would. Maybe I can test that in the near future haha. Thanks again for the kind words, support and being part of this community! 😀 🤙

    I've successfully executed my first waypoint mission this morning - so the tutorials are working @JB! :) It's pretty bright in Syd at the moment and I've noticed some of my videos are over-exposed (so far I'm only shooting on Auto mode). You've mentioned post-production on a couple of the tutorials ... do you get more into this anywhere else and what do you recommend for it software-wise?

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT
      @JustinBainbridgeYT  6 месяцев назад

      Thats great to hear! Glad you had a successful waypoint mission! that's okay, you can still adjust the exposure in auto mode, I talk about it in this video here - ruclips.net/video/n-yQRAfSLME/видео.html
      Around 2:30 I discuss adjusting the exposure in auto.
      I will get more into post production in a future video. But I haven't shown my editing workflow as of yet. I use Adobe premiere pro which I reccommend if you're willing to pay the subscription. If not some good free options are Adobe Rush, Davinci Resolve and Capcut. These are all capable of putting nice drone edits together and doing colour grading and adding music/sounds.

    To get around the negative altitude, maybe you could designate a landing zone on the hike up. Leave behind a landing pad in an accessible open area at the low altitude. Maybe weigh it down so it doesn't blow away.
    Assuming you don't hike out of range, you could take off from the peak and head for your LZ. Land at the LZ and then take off again. This involves a lot of bravado and redundancy of course. But it would be interesting to try.

    This is so much more detailed than every other waypoint video I've seen thanks for this. Do you know if there is any way to edit a waypoint. Let's say you wanted to change waypoint 4 can you fly back to a similar position and overwrite that waypoint with new settings or do you have to start over from the beginning?

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT

      Hey! I'm glad you found the video useful, You can edit a waypoint using the standard menu features. To edit waypoint 4 you can just select waypoint 4 and then change the values in the menu and drag it on the screen to a new location. Unfortunately you can't fly to a location you want to change the waypoint to and overwrite it. You would have to delete all waypoints ahead of this one including the one you're at, and then create a new one in the new position. Hope this helps 😃

That's also really good to hear, I'm glad you're finding the videos easy to understand and you've watched enough to hopefully get a good grasp of the drone and how to get the most out of it! I'm not sure if this will work but i would try opening the fly app, clicking on connection guide, then click on camera view in the top right hand corner. If they waypoint symbol is there on the left then you should be able to do this. If it's not there then I guess it's not possible.

      Hey! Have you connected the mic to the DJI RC2 controller? If so you need to do a screen recording on the radio and this will then also record audio from the microphone. You can then sync the audio in post production to match it to your drone footage. The mic will not record directly on the drone. 😃

    Hi , great video - will be giving it a go. One question, if I have a saved waypoint mission and then on another occasion try to re run that mission but my take off is from a different height ie lower down a hill, will that mess up all the previous relative altitude positions - must I always have to take off from the same location / height ?

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT
      @JustinBainbridgeYT  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Thank you! You're exactly right. If you take off from a different altitude it will mess up all the heights because they are all relative from the take off point at the time you go to fly the mission. I always reccomend launching from exactly the same spot to get the most accurate repeatability with the waypoint mission.

    The one feature that would make this perfect is when recording waypoints, the app would record the speed between each point along with heading. That way, no need to go back and manually adjust indivisual point speeds.

    Awesome overview Justin! I'm still waiting for the price to drop before I buy the MP4. I do have the MP3 and it's a shame DJI won't update it to do waypoints like the MP4. I just have one question, can you set a POI at a waypoint and have it do a circle around it at different distances using the inner and outer rings and also changing the altitude as it circles? That would be so cool if it can be done. New subscriber and a Gigantic LIKE for this one.

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT
      @JustinBainbridgeYT  7 месяцев назад

      Hey! What you're describing with the POI is like a combination of Waypoints and The POI feature from the tracking section. These are 2 different flying modes so unfortunately you wont be able to combine them. ou can get a similar effect be plotting waypoints around the POI and having some closer and further away, and then just adjust the altitude for each one. A better way of doing it would be to plan a waypoint mission up to the POI. then swap from Waypoints to POI (Tracking Mode) and do your orbits. then continue with more waypoints of normal flying. Hope this helps!

    Hi Justin...great video...I have 2 questions that I hope you can answer.....one is: can you change the camera zoom for a waypoint flight from 1? The second question is: if I set up a flight with 10 waypoints, and I start recording at WP1 and I want to take a photo from let's use WP5 for example....will the camera resume recording video after taking a picture?....or do I have to set up another waypoint adjacent to WP5...which would become WP6 and "start recording" to continue recording the flight?

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT

      Hello, Yes, you can change the zoom from 1 up to 4x. I personally don't recommend it because you can just zoom in post, but you're welcome to use the zoom if you wish. And yep, you got it. You will need to have a waypoint afterwards that starts recording again. I find it less hassle to just set the drone to hover for a few seconds where I want a picture, then I just take a screenshot afterwarfs to make it easier. But see what works best for you! 😃

      Hey, sorry, I don't really understand. You say it's too specific, but you can't get the right altitude? Do you mean not specific enough, and you need 0.1m accuracy? You can't change the scale on the altitude slider unfortunately. If you need highly precise altitude, you will need to fly the mission manually and record altitude that way. It'll go to 0.1m accuracy if flown manually, rather than 1m accuracy if planned beforehand.

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT
      @JustinBainbridgeYT  5 месяцев назад

      Hi, if you have a downloaded map then when you arrive at your location, you should turn the radio and drone on so it can get it's GPS location. This should bring up the map area that you are in, and I would guess you could plan a mission from that as you would be able to now see the downloaded map area. A good test would be to try access the downloaded map at home whilst not connected to the Internet, open the maps and move to the location you have downloaded manually. That'll let you know if you can plan the Mission. I can't see why not though. I think thay waypoints use GPS coordinates so it shouldn't matter if you can see the actual map or not on location. The Mission should still be saved and able to be flown.

    I understand the need to use POI in a pre-planned waypoint flight in order to lock the camera direction. But why would you use POI when you are actually in the location? You can add another waypoint instead, because it saves the camera direction and gimbal tilt. So if you want the drone to orbit around something, just add waypoints around it? Don’t see how POI has an advantage while planning in the location.

    • @JustinBainbridgeYT

      It's just 2 ways to achieve the same thing. The waypoints not being at negative altitude seems pointless especially with all the sensors the drone has, it can tell if it is going to hit the ground.
    Also most online maps can tell you the altitude of the ground, which would be very useful for waypoints as you could reference the height off of the ground height (say have the waypoint mission always keep the drone 30 m above the ground) but DJI obviously hasn’t implemented this.
    In general referencing the height off of the ground would be very useful, particularly in Europe where DJI drones are limited to 120 m from its take off altitude (as in the drone will not physically go above 120 m from the take off altitude), it could use the GPS and a downloaded map to tell the height above the ground then you could change the limit from 120 m above take off to 120 m above the ground which is what the law actually dictates. It would also be useful for law compliance outside of Europe since most countries define the max height as a height above the ground or distance to the closest point on the Earths surface. This pretty much makes the altitude given by the drone pretty useless unless you know the relative altitude of the ground under the drone.
    Say you are on a hill, you fly the drone up to 120 m and then fly horizontally in the direction of down the hill. The drone will keep telling you it’s altitude is 120 m although its actual altitude above the ground is higher, having the drone reference its height off of the actual ground height or closest point on the Earth’s surface would make compliance much easier and could be accomplished easily if the drone or controller already has a map. The drone can send its coordinates back to the controller, then the controller can figure out how high above the ground it is using the maps data (since most digital maps contain altitude date) and then send back to the drone it’s height above the ground.
    They already have pretty advanced map functionality (waypoints, satellite view, etc) so they could probably pretty easily just access the maps altitude data too.
    I don’t know why DJI hasn’t already implemented this but it is an obvious thing that would just make the drones better.

      Very interesting points. I do agree with all the sensors this drone has it should be able to achieve a negative altitude. Also, with maps including elevation data, maybe in the future, DJI could roll out a more capable version, taking advantage of this data. The AGL altitude conundrum is an annoying one. 120m above take off just doesn't work very well in the hills. I think with all the light that has come to this recently that hopefully future machines will be able to make more calculated AGL altitude readings and save people alot of heartache in the hills. Thanks for your input! 😃
