this was before adult swim became a thing and its definitely got that early 2000s cartoon network show feeling especially the backgrounds from old hannah barbera cartoons. its interesting how the show evolved its look over time
by thing you mean trendy? Because ATHF wouldn't have been on if it wasn't a thing....thats how people watched, adult swim...back when it had more anime and before family guy
@@ravinraven6913when this pilot first aired adult swim hadn’t been created yet. It was only after adult swim was created when this show moved to it. Also family guy was on adult swim in 2003 just 2 years after the block was launched
I love how meatwad sounds the same but more braindead and shake sounds like a posh version of himself and frylock sounds like a centuries old scholar, the only one who sounds the same is carl abliet crankier and older
Even though I saw the Pilot episode, for years my dumb ass was hearing "ass finger trumpet". I finally caught "dancing is forbidden" but only years later. Of course I smoked at least 4 grams of grass every day for all those years. 😏 Might have had something to do with it.
This pilot was first aired on Cartoon Network on a late night slot before Adult Swim existed. I remember I watched a recorded first run airing and it had the Cartoon Network logo on the bottom right. That’s also probably why this episode is PG rated. I don’t think the show was ever advertised or given any recognition at all when the pilot aired back in 2000.
This is such an interesting episode I mean they are on an actual investigation even if they aren't taking it seriously besides Frylock anyway and are traveling to far more locations than most of the series ever did Shake is being treated like the actual leader with Frylock actually following his commands despite him clearly not caring about the investigation and being far stupider it makes me wonder what would have happened if the series stayed a bit closer to the pilot
Despite how the animation is cheap and very limited at the start, it has so much charm. Also, am I the only one noticed that Frylock's pupils get bigger at 1:26?
Is this the Pilot? Tis true then; I do recognize myself in Shake. I am also a pissy, conspiracy theorist know-it-all, often rolling around on the floor and complaining. We look good here.
I love how this pilot is actually kinda kid friendly
Right? You could easily show to this a Middle School Classroom
It was actually first aired on Cartoon Network on a late night slot before Adult Swim was created. That’s probably why it was more kid friendly.
Dancing is forbidden. Middle
Schools are forbidden
Explains why my mom thought it was okay for me to watch it with her until she realized it wasnt
it was partially because this was aired before adult swim was concieved
A little rough around the edges, but the pilot is still classic

And the show had a budget of like, $15 so they reused what they could an apparently animated it in powerpoint

yeah this pilot didn't have nearly as much grit and grime to it. a lot of the later Adult Swim episodes really lean into the crackhouse aesthetic
Carl absolutely carries season 1. This could have just been the Carl show, and I'd be happy.
He carries the whole show
carls actor should be in way more shows
Since this show Dave Willis lent his voice to shows like Steven Universe and Welcome to the Wayne. Wish granted.
@@Channeleven2345789 "Steven Universe''? - Dude, that was not my wish

Man I remember when this first aired, can’t believe it’s already old enough to legally drink
I don't think TV shows are governed by human laws in that sense. which means there is no age restriction, its always been old enough to drink
