Not just in terms of tonal quality, but also... the contrast... the harshness of his vocal is the perfect match for the pureness and clarity of hers. Vin, I feel ya. I rediscovered Nightwish about 9 months ago, and I have been stalking Nightwish reactions literally every night since then. I cannot get enough of them, and I must have seen every song from the last 3 live recordings at least a dozen times each and I still want more! I hate crowds and loud noises, but I am absolutely going to be going to their show when they eventually come through Southern California again.

Ilove nightwish i started listening to them at an early age. Their first album from 1997 "Angels Fall First" sparkedmy love for symphonic metal. Important to remember that the movie was written around the album, so it doesn't necessarily offer much insight into the original core message behind each song, at least on the surface. I think the meaning behind this one is fairly simple, though. It's basically about facing your fears in order to reach your dreams and goals, especially introverted and empathetic, possibly also badly abused, people doing so. The "Ghost River" represents all your fears and doubts that are blocking you from reaching the opposite shore of your dreams. Floor's (originally Anette's) parts represent this sort of angelic spirit of those dreams calling and encouraging you to cross to the other side, and not being afraid of taking the reins of your life and leaving your mark on the world, even if the world hurts you in the process. Marko's parts, in contrast, represent the "spirit" of the "Ghost River" who is sewing doubt into you and telling you to give into that pain and let go ("I am the fear and abuse", "Sowing of doubt"), while also simultaneously taunting the angel of your hopes and dreams about taking hold of you ("He will go down he will drown drown, deeper down, the river wild will take your only child"). I believe Tuomas has said something along the lines of this song being about a battle between the devil and an angel (and that's also about all he's said). So basically, the devil represents fear and doubt which in this song is the Ghost River, and the angel represents hope which in this song is the opposite shore.

I often wonder about the rape reference here myself. Tuomas of course used the term metaphorically to indicate victimization and helplessness in Poet and the Pendulum. And "dead boy" is another frequent reference in Tuomas's songwriting (as in "Dead Boy's Poem," "Last ride of the Day," and again in P&tP) and features semi-metaphorically/symbolically in the film.

It's kind of amusing that Vin is so in love with Ghost Love Score now, because Vin and Sori were the first channel I had ever seen react to that song, and they honestly didn't seem that impressed with the song at the time. I knew Nightwish and Floor (in After Forever) before that, but it was the first time I had ever seen them together, but for some reason it didn't click with me either. I had the chance to say hi to Floor yesterday but I was both a bit too nervous and did not want to bother her. She letteraly walked right past me, not even 2 meters away.
Reactions with Floor are already just fed up. Listen to Nightwish's albums Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century childe, Once, this is a real symphonic metal classics and Tarja's voice sounds just magical. Nightwish has two more amazing concerts on DVDs END OF AN ERA and FROM WISHES TO ETERNITY TO LIVE, you will lose a lot if you do not get acquainted with these amazing works of this wonderful group.
"Don't put me on a pedestal" - couldn't be more right. These people are not saints like so many people try to put them out to be, they are regular people, with various opinions and thoughts like ordinary people. I've lost the count on how many times fans get too close to their favourite artists, and then have their world shatter because they got too close and realized the band or a specific member harboured beliefs and opinions that were so shocking to the fan, and contradictory to everything they believed in. And when it comes to Nightwish, they should definitely not be put on a pedestal, based on their actions with how they handled the departures of their former singers, they're not saints, and all the loaded crap that comes out of their mouths against other musicians and fans, I would not say that they're the most humble persons ever, they are regular people who happen to produce marvellous music and put up some of the best shows in the industry.
Floor is a gift to humanity, I have the biggest crush on her, and I don’t even swing this way. And as usual Vin's interpretation of the lyrics is not correct.
For more sensuality, I recommend Dark Chest of Wonders. Seriously -- Floor is the metal Valkyrie version of Jean Grey as the Phoenix. So beautiful, yet so hot. Literally, as another song title says, "She is My Sin."

Song of myself is about Tuomas, his movie character and humanity in general.
PER SONGFACTS:::::This was one of the first songs to be written for Imaginaerum and was described by keyboardist and composer-in-chief, Tuomas Holopainen, as, "a duel between the Devil and Mother Gaia." (Mother Gaia is the goddess who the ancients believed represented Earth). He explained to Metal Hammer magazine: "Since this is a dramatic album about the celebration of life and existence, you need the dark side as well. I love the dark side and I love all kinds of evil stuff, so we needed a few songs to describe those. 'Ghost River' and 'Rest Calm' are the two songs that are talking about the dark side of life."

Reactions with Floor are already just fed up. Listen to Nightwish's albums Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century childe, Once, this is a real symphonic metal classics and Tarja's voice sounds just magical. Nightwish has two more amazing concerts on DVDs END OF AN ERA and FROM WISHES TO ETERNITY TO LIVE, you will lose a lot if you do not get acquainted with these amazing works of this wonderful group.
"Don't put me on a pedestal" - couldn't be more right. These people are not saints like so many people try to put them out to be, they are regular people, with various opinions and thoughts like ordinary people. I've lost the count on how many times fans get too close to their favourite artists, and then have their world shatter because they got too close and realized the band or a specific member harboured beliefs and opinions that were so shocking to the fan, and contradictory to everything they believed in. And when it comes to Nightwish, they should definitely not be put on a pedestal, based on their actions with how they handled the departures of their former singers, they're not saints, and all the loaded crap that comes out of their mouths against other musicians and fans, I would not say that they're the most humble persons ever, they are regular people who happen to produce marvellous music and put up some of the best shows in the industry.
Floor is a gift to humanity, I have the biggest crush on her, and I don’t even swing this way. And as usual Vin's interpretation of the lyrics is not correct.
