Son and Daughter (7/10) - The opening harmonies sound pretty solid tonight. Freddie starts off the first verse slightly off-key for some reason, but adds a nice embellishment on “Yes, I DID!” and quickly corrects himself, singing strongly from there onwards. The band harmonies are also quite tight throughout which is a welcome exception to the last few performances on the tour. Freddie really wants to know what comes next tonight and asks the audience twice until some bloke finally shouts “to be a woman!”. Roger’s drumming during the jam section of the instrumental part is as great as ever but at the same time the audio quality really does its part here to hide any details as soon as Brian and Roger are playing at the same time. Brian’s solo sounds about what you would expect with the usual fast licks, delay work and creative mixing of these elements. Unfortunately, it is hard to appreciate and enjoy screeching guitar licks on a bad audio recording, so reviewing this isn’t that easy lol. Some parts come out nicer than others and the 2nd jam of Brian and Roger contains some great stuff either. The finale is strong but overall I couldn’t hear anything particularly outstanding in a positive way although the tape might be to blame.
