  • Whitehead is a model Victorian railway seaside town on the Northern corner of Belfast Lough. The earliest recognizable 'modern' building there, still standing today, is an Elizabethan campaign fort, complete with curtain wall at the promenade shore. There's an amazing variety of architecture in this small town and it's packed with characters and curiosities as a settlement of this type should be. The Whitehead Community Association is an independent, innovative and incredibly active organisation at the heart of this town. They put me in touch with Steve Diamond, a painter and local historian, who provides a 'potted history' in this short film.

I've included scenes observable across the Lough to other historic seaside settlements like Bangor and Groomsport, the Copeland Islands, as well as Islandmagee on this local stretch of beautiful coastline.
Look out for other Irelandscapes films from Whitehead on this channel.

That's a lot of work, putting all that together. Co-starring formations of Brent geese. Well done.

Wonderful video ! I visited Whitehead for the first time last week. Went there to video the lighthouse with my drone. Lovely town and especially enjoyed the coastal path along around the lighthouse. Stopped at the Kings Road Coffee Shop for tea and scones. Lovely place and will definitely be back. Gobbins in on the list for this year for sure 😊

My house was the white one with the circular window on the hill. We were afraid of it because it was painted blood red in 1981.
