What people forget when they hear this song is the brilliant drumming by the late Jeff Porcaro of Toto. Mark Knopfler specifically asked for Jeff when he's recording "OES" in 1991. It's a tragedy that Jeff passed away in August 1992 at 38.
How in the world did I just see this channel? I'm the biggest Mark Knopfler fan in the WORLD! This is another of my favorite song he wrote. His genius is without compare. Period.
I remember i found this cd laying around in the backroom of the electronics dept i worked in. I knew i liked dire straits so i popped it in. To me its their greatest achievement. Every song is good to great, and can stand on its own. This album left a huge empression on me, one that still reverberates today. I listen to their other albums occational but i always come back to this one. Thank you Mark
It's always so good once in a while to come out of the rock under which it seems I've been living and become mesmerized with such a good song! Glad to be here and remember good times...1991 was the year I went to the university...So heartwarming to remember those days! Thanks a bunch...🙂
In my opinion, this is the only song on the last Dire Straits album that actually sounds like Dire Straits. "On Every Street" was a sad goodbye, in my opinion, to one of the best bands ever. The whole album is all over the place and the worst of their entire catalog
I think On every street also sounded like ds! I also like you and your friend, calling elvis, planet of the new orleans! But you are right it was far too much country and steel guitar
Beautiful song, beautiful lady! Thank you Mark💞
Indeed!!
The gorgeous Georgia May Foote no less!!

What a great song, performed and written by Mr. Knopfler and also performed by John Anderson - both artists totally nailed this classic song!
I always thought Anderson wrote it!
Jeff porcaro on drums! Great song and album!
I didn't know he was with Dire Straits I thought he was with Toto.
@@eddieschwab864Porcaro was member of Toto but also a top session man.
A genius of awesome music....:)
Рос с музыкой этого гения. Спасибо! Передаю младшему поколению!

Country artist John Anderson recorded this as well. Very similar feel. Actually both versions feel like a Waylon Jennings song

What album is this from please?
One of Mark's best IMHO. It is track 3 from Dire Straits final studio album www.markknopfler.com/discography/on-every-street/
I always thought it was the 'Notting Hillbillies' who did this?
