The way pre-Khmer rouge Phnom Penh khmers speak is so soft and elegant. Unlike the khmers nowadays in or outside Cambodia, sounds like a screeching chalkboard.
Yes, absolutely agree! The 'vocal fry' is terrible. They sound like they're engaging in a business transaction, in a produce market. Lack of class and refinement.
@angkorpisey Both of my parents were survivors of the Killing Fields. What Ichan90a and me meant was that 4-8 years after the video (which I am assuming is from 1971) that is when the art almost disappeared, not 4-8 years ago.
@trickystyle Oh yes I do know this terrible history. My family lost alot of members. But It was during 1975-79, not 4-8 years ago or a few years ago like you said. That is why didn't understand well.
@angkorpisey uhm do you not know khmer history? just a few years later the khmer rouge took over and killed everyone including dancers and musicians. dance was prohibited and seen as upper class. the khmer rouge wanted to wipe out artisans, musicians, dancers, and religion. come on please don't tell me you don't know about the killing fields.
Omigosh!!! thank you sooo much!!!! I've been looking for this forever!!!!!!! I lost my vcr that had this! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for this rare footage. Now I know so much more about the meaning of these gestures.
Very intimate and constructive interview/doc.
I was 6 then and so keen with this dance but I was a boy.LOL
Thanks for sharing.
@naruto10119 Her name is Voin Savay, she is now living in Paris. Actually I learn khmer dance with her.
its really hard to believe that these dance forms were close to extinction 4- 8 years later.
❤❤❤

It's annoying when she talks and the guy talks over the girl.
