This year I made a decision to move to Johannesburg in the middle of the year, from my grandma’s house and I found this very helpful✨ thank you very much❤️😊
Hi Khanyi so far I love all your SA content and you've exposed a lot of things some of which I was not aware of. Bless you for that and keep selling SA.
Thanks for the thorough explanation. It sounds really tempting, and way better than here in Cleveland, Ohio. I follow another youtuber, Itchy Boots, that just moved there, so she'll need to learn the area. She'll be riding around on a motorcycle. Thanks again...
this was so helpful. thank you! i love that you showed normal day-to-day activities. most people tend to focus on touristy/entertainment things that don't really reflect the true cost of living. thank you for the details and simple insights. god willing, i'll be in SA next year, so this helped me get a little more clearer on what my budget should be. thank you again!!
Hi Khanyi, I'm so happy I came across your channel, my husband and I, both from Jamaica, live in England. We are planning to move with our three young daughters and baby, due in May, to SA by the end of 2021. Your channel is really helpful as we're always on the search for information on cost of living etc. Even though we are looking to go to Dolphin Coast, it's good to get an idea of what living cost is like. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you
Hello I love your channel. You always give detail descriptions of everything, and also I love when you speak on the rands in USD. AND ALSO YOU SPEAK VERY CLEAR. AND SLOWLY. GREST JOB
I really like your channel. I like the fact that your content speaks to an average middle class person. It's quite refreshing, thank you for all the info.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your detailed information on the cost of living in Johannesburg South Africa. I am retired in the U.S. and my income is only $30,000 a year and I am looking for someplace more affordable. Again, thank you so much.
Excellent video. It is very useful 👍. I liked the way you explained. Amazing voice modulation. Hoping to see a lot of videos from you regarding exploring johannesburg. Thank you very much.
Just moved from Cpt to Jhb and this was so informative and answered a lot of questions. Thank you 🥂 FYI this video made me subscribe after watching other videos. This is vital content. Love the specifics of costs. Could you do a detailed video of looking for an apartments and car any tips and tricks you have up your sleeve would be so appreciated.
Great vid. Would be nice to compare prices to UK Sterling £ and Australian $ too as there are a lot of people living in these countries who have connections to SA.
Hi Cheryl. A tourist visa is just for visiting/holiday and valid for a short specific number of months depending on what passport you are using. I recommend you visit first and see if you like the country and then you can look at other resident visa options once you decide you want to move here.
@@cheryljackson8077 Also check the channel, The Real South Africa. Look through their playlist, you'll likely find what you're looking for. They have an email address they can be reached on too.
Hi Kenneth. The info in the video applies anywhere in Johannesburg. The only thing that would vary depending on the area is the cost of renting an apartment.
Great video content and channel. Local SA from Durban..water is cheap that side haha...in Durban we pay about from R400-R800 a month...something not right with our municipality.
Hi James. If you want to be near good shopping, entertainment and restaurants etc then Sandton is ideal. You can search for Airbnb's in or near Sandton Central. Sandton Central also has a website with hotel recommendations. Airbnb will be cheaper of course for a long stay.
There's a lot of good areas to live in joburg it just depends on your budget, Waterfall, Midrand, maboneng, greater Randburg area are just some of the areas I can think of
Besides the Northern Suburbs of Joburg, there's also Johannesburg South, The East Rand, West Rand and Midrand (as mentioned above). Check for estates/gated communities in those areas too.
You have had some good responses to your question here already. There really are many areas. The answer would be based on where you work and your lifestyle as Johannesburg is big. To just list suburbs would not be helpful. If you work in the east you would not want to live in the west and travel every day through traffic (although many people do). Look for convenience based on your lifestyle.
Hey Lisa. I don’t know what foid processed means (or did you mean food processed?) and I’ve never had McDonalds from the US so I can’t really compare. Either way, one doesn’t go to a fast food place for health reasons 😊
Great video! I lived in Pretoria for 2 years back in 2005-2007 but haven't gone back since. Can you please give me a little news on coast of living over there as for 2022?
Thanks Teddy. According to the latest data Pretoria is now cheaper when it comes to rental property and general cost of living expenses . It used to be more expensive but not anymore.
You won't believe I have saved just $800 USD as a start up to move to SA thinking it's enough to at least pay 1 year rent and buy me a mattress till I can get a job not knowing that a rent cost $500 USD per month.... it's very expensive. I just need a single room thou..... thanks for the info anyway!
That is definitely not enough to get you through a year. You can get accommodation for much less than $500 for a one-bedroom apartment. Keep in mind that anything too cheap will not be in a good area. I wouldn't advise moving here with just $800 in your pocket and no immediate job.
Thank you for sharing I would love to visit there. Your videos are very helpful. I have a few questions for you. I'm from America and would like a visa, how long will that take? I work in the medical field, is there jobs for Americans there? What apartment are you in during the video? Is it affordable? How can we or where can we exchange our US money?
Hi Christiana. Yes, it is per month. This video is based on expenses for one person so a 1 bedroom apartment in a nice complex/ neighbourhood with good amenities. You can definitely get many 2 bedrooms also in good areas within this price but you may then have to compromise on some amenities so it depend on what's important to you.
I am coming to Johannesburg in November. I would like to visit different areas around Joburg to see what area fits my taste. What services do you offer? I am coming from America.
Hi Warren. I don't offer any tour services or anything like that. I would suggest you check with your hotel. Hotels here always have tour operators that they work closely with and they can suggest areas for you to visit according to what you are interested in.
When I come there would you be willing to help me find a nice place to stay, just help get Started, and go to the places I need to go to get all theses things started please, and u know I will pay for your Service please thanks
Hi Joe. Unfortunately I would not be able to assist with this. Please google Estate Agents in South Africa. There are many of them. They can assist with finding a place to stay.
There is actually a commuter rail system other than the Gautrain that services Johannesburg and Pretoria. It's called Metrorail. You can go to www.metrorail.co.za to get the route map for the Gauteng province as well as the other 3 provinces in the country where it operates.
This was very informative even to me as a South African. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

Can you lay out the process for relocating from USA to Johannesburg? Is coming on a tourist visa recommended? Btw, you video was superb!

Thanks for watching 🙂 Wow. That’s very strange. I don’t even pay close to R800 for electricity per month let alone water.
hi I am going to Jozi in December from Ireland for 3 months any advice would be appreciated especially with accommodation options
kind regards James

Hi Lovely Lady. No, I'm not from the US. This video was just for information purposes.
