Great video, i found here what i was searching for along, but wasn't able to find. This fan switch trick was what solved my problem to control the 18v to decrease to 14.4v to fully charge a 12v battery.

What if you were to cornet the battery to a 240v inverter and run the transformer off of the invert? Would you create a looped power system? Would it charge itself?

No no, that 18volt is the peakvalue of the 12volt RMS-value of the rectified 12volt AC. The peakvoltage is always the RMS times squareroot2, so 12volt AC always becomes √2*12= ±19volt after a capacitor smoothes the 50Hz ripple out of the rectified AC.
So close but i am sorry but your wrong. His meter read 14.1v ac. While not a true rms meter its probably fine to assume its a roughly pure ac and that 14.1vac is the rms value or effective value of the voltage off the transformer. That means the peak voltage is 14.1×sqrt(2)=19.94vac. Then it goes through a full bridge rectifyer. All diodes have a voltage drop, and a full bridge rectifier will have two diodes conducting in series at any moment during an ac signal. Each diode drops about .7 volts totaling about 1.4v are drops. Then it goes through a filter that under load will smooth out the voltage to something less than peak. But under no load, the output should be a rectified and smooth 18.54vdc. He measured 18.56vac, probably slightly better diodes. And seeing as its filtered and under no load, you can expect there is no ripple voltage. Its pure 18.56vac as he measured.

@@robson6285 I didn't say you were totally wrong. I said you were close. 1) he didn't have 12v anyware in his system. 2) 12vac (rms) × sqr(2) is close to 16.97vac peek, not 19v. 3) The peek vac can not be the same as the peek vdc because of diode voltage drop.

For anyone that didn't already know, a diode's capacity to dissipate heat is a complex function with various factors that include but is not limited to surface area of the diode, ambient temperatures, efficiency of heat sinks, and rate of air flow. i bought a cheap fan switch, it have a 500K potentiometer inside it and it is not working for me, it is just changing the values between 16.5v up to 16.2volts. What do you think what should i do to solve it like you ? normally without switch it outputs 18volts.
You have so much potential. There is one problem though. You are making only simple stuff. You should start learning transistors and logic if you want to go further.

Ну ты друг так и остался сидеть на пальме жувать бананы. По крайней мере автор пытается что-то сделать, пусть даже не очень эффективно -- но устройство работает и выполняет свою функцию (конечно о правильной зарядке батареи постоянным током до преустановленного напряжения здесь и речи не может идти).

Could you tell me would it be OK to use a twin secondary transformer as I have a spare 240 volt primary and twin secondary. At 12 volt at 50 VA transformer.
so if at the end you are sending 12 v why the use of the 2 blue capacitors? or , what are the capacitors for ? can i simply charge a battery with AC current? and skip the blue cylinders?
Primary will be heated if u sue for long time u have to use dc voltage regulator to regulate the voltage

Why primary winding will be heating up? This type of circuit with TRIAC voltage regulator is used widely and no problem so far. Of cause this type of circuit is not optimal to charge the battery -- but it will work nevertheless.
Not safe...there is no current limiting and it's doesn't require capacitor to smoothen DC for battery charging.more over the transformer doesn't work it's full potential when you reduce primary voltage with regulator.means current will decrease...try something useful it can only destroy a good battery..flowing too much current will damage the cells.

And what do you expect to see there except of 220V? It would make more sense to measure consumed current in primary winding.

You'd need some curent limit, for not burning the transformer, it's a bit small.
It can handle 15 amps continuous without burning.

Voltage drop is not constant @ 0.7V .It changes with change in load and no load conditions

3 turns of isolaton tape on main voltage wire is for me to crazy to be safe
