    Thank you very much!!!
    This fixed my problem.
    I didn't bypass the pto knob, but ordered a new one.
    Thanks again. Great, helpful, video!

    Its shameful how they try to make these things so complicated. Safety, I'm a big proponent of being safe. I was a Safe Start presenter at a previous company and the videos we shared with employees I think all DIY'ers can relate to but I get why Cub Cadet or any other company does this stuff but they should make the cheap parts they know are going to fail available for just shipping in my Opinion but it's mine. Anyway, thank you for the detailed instructions while I wait on amazon 😊

    Amazing video, helped me diagnose a bad pto switch.

    Great video. Same mower, same problem right now. 12.6 on battery. Keep turning key over and over. While doing this, every once in a while, the starter will click. Kept doing it and that fuse popped on me. Sure it’s ignition switch. I’ll look at the pro switch as well. Thanks

      Thank you! I hope you get it figured out. I, just, finished mowing my yard, about 30 minutes ago. Still using the mower in this video, and, still running great. Of course, my new PTO and ignition switches are both on, at this point. No problems, since this little issue.

      @@johnadams5276 Thanks. Just ordered both ignition and pto switch. It has a new starter already.

    I have the same mower and one time the PTO did shut off on me but I ended up using the "override" feature (exclamation point button) that lets you mow in reverse. I prefer old school PTO where you just pull or push a lever and tighten a belt to engage, less parts to fail. I bypassed the fuel cutoff on the carb because it went open and the engine died. I just removed the little rubber seat, who knows where that is now and the engine sometimes pops when turned off which is OK by me.

    Thank you John for the information.
    I have a bit different problem. My mower burns the fuse and kills the mower deck. If I shut off the mower then of course its dead until I replace the fuse. Wondering if the electric clutch is bad???

    • @johnadams5276
      @johnadams5276  2 года назад

      Did you ever figure this out? Sounds like the PTO is bad, causing the fuse to burn out, which would also affect the deck from engaging.

    you could wire in a switch for the blade, that clip and bare wire might touch some metal

    I remember that fuse hack from the one time I watched the original MacGyver show many years ago.

      I had an old VW van that was notorious for popping fuses, I kept gum wrappers in the glove box, thin enough to get you going again but only long enough to get the real mcoy.

    I have a Z-Force 44 Zero Turn with PTO not engaging. Bought new PTO and Ignition Switches with no luck. While removing the PTO clutch I had the hot wire spark against the frame WITH THE KEY OFF?? Any idea why my PTO is always hot?

    My Kohler motor wiring harness on that same mower got corroded and fell apart so now I have no idea what wires connect to what on the main wiring harness. Can anyone take a photo of the motor wiring harness and the connections to the main wiring harness right below the rectifier. I just need to see those connections.

    The issue I'm having is I mow for a while and the PTO cuts out. I push the knob in and pull it back out and it's running again, but then the same thing happens a bit later. Since I have to push the knob in an pull it out again instead of just tapping it, I'm thinking there's a relay that's going bad, but I don't know.

    • @johnadams5276
      @johnadams5276  3 года назад

      Not sure. The switch could be going bad.

    • @kurtknispel9170

      The switch is also a breaker and if you're cutting too thick of grass it will throw the breaker

    Question please.
    When I pull my PTO out I get a click noise but no blade engagement. The blade was cutting fine then stopped. After which I only get the clicking noise when trying to engage the blade. My foot is on the brake too when pulling out the PTO but no blade engagement.
    Help please. Thanks.

      Not sure how to help, on this. It could be a bad PTO switch, but, I just don't know. If it were mine, I'd attempt to bypass the PTO switch, as in this video. See if this bypass works. If so, your switch is bad. If not, it could be something more costly. Best of luck!

    Can you tell me what gauge wire you used to hotwire this. Mine is doing the exact same thing you described. No click, no lights, nothing when I try to start it and when I tried to bypass, it would crank but not start. What is the round black piece you bought for the ignition switch? Or are you saying you replaced the whole ignition switch?

    • @johnadams5276
      @johnadams5276  3 года назад

      Sorry! Just realized that I had comments on here. I used 10 gage wire. I replaced the entire ignition key switch. It wasn't difficult.

    • @johnadams5276
      @johnadams5276  3 года назад +2

      Cranking, but not starting can be several things. I'll give you a list of what I would check. 1st, check the obvious (gas in tank, and spark plug is clean and firmly connected). 2nd, check the oil level. Most mowers have a low oil sensor that won't allow them to start if the oil is too low. 3rd, check the seat sensor. It may be bad, telling the mower that you are not on the mower. 4the, be sure that you are not trying to start the mower with the alligator clip already connected/PTO knob engaged. The mower is designed, for safety reasons, to not start with the blades already engaged. There may be a safety switch in the brake/clutch, as well. If so, check to see that is is completely plugged in, and functioning. Best of luck!

    The thing you need to know is that pro clutch is a high amp so careful on making sure you use heavy wire to run the pro clutch

    i have a question about your when you would go to start the mower were you not getting anything from the key except the PTO light? currently i have a similar issue i can hear the PTO engage when the key is in the on position if i pull the PTO knob out, did you hear that on yours as well or was it completely shorted out? i went to a dealer today and he did not think it was my PTO switch so was cautious about selling me the switch since i couldn't return it .

    • @johnadams5276
      @johnadams5276  4 года назад

      Sorry! I just seen this. Mine was not making any noise. But, about a month later, a guy brought a larger Cub Cadet to me, thinking his engagement clutch was burnt out. I suggested trying this, with his, and his clutch was fine. It was just the PTO knob. His had double wires, in it. But the colors were the same, so, we wired it just as in this video, and he was able to mow. If I were you< I'd try the hot wiring method. If it works, it was the PTO switch. If not, you may need to keep looking. Good luck!

      10 gage. Only because it was readily available. 12 or 14 would probably do just fine.

      Lol! I tried! The stupid auto-rotate will make the videos come out upside down. I got tired of trying to set it up, correctly, and just went with what worked, at that moment. My focus was not to make a money-making video... just an informative video, for those who might run into the same frustration that I did. Knowing that others wouldn't have to tress out over this, put my mind at ease. I, do, plan on getting some professional equipment and software, for future videos, pertaining to more specific passions of mine.
