Pastel Painting - How to Erase Pastels

Each of my pastel paintings is created on archival sanded pastel paper which is specifically made for grabbing onto those small particles of pigment that make a pastel so luminous! The pastels are pure pigments made into sticks using a little water and a binder, nothing more. Most of the brands that I use are hand rolled by artisan makers.
My working process is a simple one; I start on location, sketching, photographing and painting. Some of these field studies make their way to the studio. In the studio I use all of that visual information and combine it with the sense or feeling I had for a location and create what is inevitably an abstraction of sorts in that it is not merely a copy of a photo but an interpretation of place. Does using that amount of pressure degrade the paper?
No, not really if you are using good quality sanded paper, it can really take many layers and a variety of pressure. Thanks for asking!
Not really and I start out very thin and work towards the softer pastels. Most of the papers take a beating and lots of layers.
Where can you buy Wallis paper?
Unfortunately this paper is currently difficult to find. I recommend Uart, Pastelmat or Pastel Premier as good substitutes!

Now if someone could tell me how erase on Pastelmat, that would really be helpful, because none of these methods have have any effect on it. It seems once the pastelmat has pastel in it, it’s not going to let you get it out.
Galactic Vibrations You can use canned air to remove pastel chalk. Per my husband's suggestion, I tried using our garage air compressor. Short bursts of air did a good job of removing much of the chalk. Took off more than enough to be able to successfully rework the paper, plus
using the compressor was much less expensive than buying canned air.
@@pattis584 What about using a vacuum to remove all the pastel from the entire board, so it can be used over again?
I used sanitising wipes recently....it worked really well on pastelmat paper
