Hello there Captain! My Unit-02 Nitefinder is still going strong. The catch is still holding up to the K26 spring and the paintjob is just the way you sent it! Quality craftsmanship! Also, good to know about the spring to use for the Shadow.
I have a theory on the nailbiter... theres no real "catch spring" since it fires at the back of the trigger pull. That probably means that the plunger spring releases at a point when sufficient releasing force is met. With a stronger plunger spring, the releasing force would be met much sooner, meaning no increase in force no matter how strong the spring. Could be wrong. Not a scientist, just a theory.
I would disagree. The catch mechanism is distance dependent and not force dependent. I however noticed it uses an o ring seal. Based on experience with my hammershot, an oring seal is not a good air seal and higher spring loads just cause more air to escape from there.
Regarding the Shadow ICS-6: That stupid little breech tube dealy that pushes the darts into the plunger tube is misaligned in mine due to variances in production, so some darts fishtail just enough to hit the top of the tube, consistently. This is exacerbated by the movement of the breech tube as it releases just as the dart is fired, and allows more time and opportunity for the tube to collide with the dart's overall length upon firing. To clarify, I mean that darts either fire normally, or predictably/consistently down and to the left with a noticeable loss in velocity. I suspect other Shadow owners must be experiencing erratic performance regardless of dart type.
cool thanks for this one. I still need to make something and add your Icon to it, was thinking on making a custom Stock out of wood to really hone in my roots/craft since my Father and GrandFather are craftsman.
A droog at DR had a fully kitted out nailbiter this last weekend. Brassed the clip entirely, improved the seals, running k26. With all that done, it still shot aboot 67fps.
Regarding the Nailbiter: I cut two sections of K25 in two different lengths. The first, the same length as the original in the Nailbiter, the second, long enough to fill the space between the plunger head and tube. The original length K25 gave me minimal performance increase to more consistent 60-70 fps (using fresh, standard elite darts in Chronobarrel on fresh Amazon alkalines). What the long spring does is forces the plunger tube to press harder against the clip and you get a better seal, and that goes to 85-90 for on same Cronobarrel setup. I highly suspect this blaster will benefit from simply filling the deadspace on the plunger rod with either a longer spring, or a spacer regardless of spring just because it forces a better seal. As far as that seal goes, between cycling rounds, the plunger tube does retract enough so that the seal isn't pressing hard on the clip as it sides up. I do imagine we'll replace these anyway. Note: putting the Chronobarrel fully on my stock Nailbiter appears to reset it from the shock of the internal action. Anyone else?
K26 seems too difficult for use in the Nailbiter for me. I plan to upgrade mine but something less though as Ive seen a few people do this and they taken it out already lol. Wow no difference? I didnt see that coming. Crazy.
Something I was considering was using floor polish to try and thicken/slim down the dart ports(?) its the magic fix all for loose action figures so technically it should work here. I'm basing this idea off of trying multiple types of darts. KO accustrikes are slightly slimmer than standard nerf darts and drop off at 20 feet where as nerf stay level the full range to the target. The main reason I think this will work is the third set that are generally crap except for the fact they are wider than normal darts and fit in very snugly giving them the best range yet and a satisfying pop sound. Think hammershot when you get a perfect fitting dart.
Yeah I found out that there is a system that retracts the foam seal and then that gets moved forward as the plunger tube is on the return, I guess it is used to help cycle to the next dart. All you have to do is shove something into the dead space behind the plunger tube to stop it from moving. The tricky part if I remember correctly is finding something that doesn't get in the way of the plunger rod. I used a catch spring from a broken blaster I had and it works fine. I got it to hit about 90 fps.
You can find them on most retail stores and their websites (I.E. Walmart, Target, etc.) I dunno if Amazon has it for MSRP or if it's all resale for double the price. Look around for good deals, see What You can find.
So I have noticed on Nfstrike they have a variety of springs on there and some of them are very unusual to me. For instance, they have some upgrade springs for several Rival springers (really heavy ones too), a 12kg spring for the Glowshot, a 12kg spring for the Rotofury, 4.5kg for the Rey/Han Solo blaster and I kid you not, a 12kg and 13kg spring for the Centurion. That's just a few examples, i'm sure I could name more. Anyways, I cannot find many reviews on ones like these, so you think maybe you can review some of these unusual springs they have Nfstrike? I'm incredibly curious to see how these work or if they even work at all because some of these seem a bit "far fetched" in my opinion.
The (very heavy) Rival springs work, or at least the 15kg Apollo and 18kg Atlas springs do. I wouldn't actually recommend putting the 15kg spring in an Apollo as it makes for a ludicrously heavy prime even with a pump kit installed, but the 18kg spring doesn't make the Atlas much harder to prime than the stock spring while offering a nice jump in performance (mine went from hitting 88 FPS on average to around 110). I haven't tried their 15kg springs for the Artemis or Hades, mostly because I don't need the headache that is disassembling and reassembling either of those in my life (also because keeping them stock means the fire rate with slam fire isn't diminished).
For the next episode, can you try a kind of dinky Zuru X-shot baster? I saw them at Wal-Mart, and the plunger tube seemed to be of appropriate size. I also briefly tinkered with one; removed the AR, and to my surprise, it hits fairly hard for its small size.
pastebin.com/6X89YAwe you can check all k26 results here. he's done quite a few x-shot blasters, you'll have to be specific. Also, the newer (white and blue) reflex 6 has a massive plunger tube, you can get a hefty spring in it, and the recoil is a fun little blaster.
Do a tier zero shadow ics 6. Do the tinting with those spray paints to match a sonic green longstrike. Put a pump grip on it and tint paint a clear worker stock to match. It’d be great for HvZ in my opinion.
I have a modded fire strike, and I had to make my own barrel out of pvc as I cant buy brass in the size needed around me, and I can load 2 into the barrel and fire them 1 at a time so maybe try putting a tightening ring on the barrel so you can have 2 shots? or maybe have it be a barrel attachment for Eir?

that second side of the stock is a destraction unit you put skittles in it the air holes let air flow trough so the scent can destract your local captian x wait you may not be the best person to use that with
With enough epoxy anything is possible. But it would not work. The plunger is too small to effectively fire rival. And the trigger pull is too short to prime a kronos plunger system.
Have you ever thought of making the Bulldog pump action? Even making it into a three dart shotgun? But it probably doesn’t have enough power even WITH k26 to fire all three that far.
